Because refs would just say that there isn’t clear evidence because you couldn’t see the ball. It wasn’t a first down but no way they would overturn it. Just a flat out bad spot. Ref guessed and of course it benefited the Pats.

Yeah, singling Johnson on Edelman is a recipe for disaster. I’m not sure if McDermott really believes it can work, or if they just don’t want to show their true hand until playoffs.

I kinda agree. You can see his arm that is holding the ball. Common sense tells you it was short but I can also see the refs just saying you can’t see the ball and throwing out common sense.

I mean, we just watched the refs not call an intentional grounding that couldn’t be more clear. What makes you think they would overturn a spot when you can’t see the ball? 
 

Now what I’ll say is that with so little time left in the half, I’m not sure that losing the TO would have meant much.
