Buffalo QB situation (1 Viewer)

So, can any Buffalo homers shed some light on how this plays out going forward? Does Losman take the job back or are we looking at the changing of the guard here?

There's definitely a real possibility that Edwards takes over for good. Jauron definitely and deliberately left that door open after Sunday's win, but I doubt they've made a firm decision on this yet.

Edwards will start against Dallas on Monday night. If I had to guess, I would say that if he plays reasonably well, he'll be the starter from here on out. Nobody is expecting him to win this game for us. I think the coaches just want to him to look sharper against a top-tier team like Dallas than he did a couple of weeks ago vs. New England. If he flops against Dalls, I'd expect to see Losman given one more shot to prove that he should be our starter, but he'll be on a short leash.

Honestly, though, it would take quite a turn of events for Losman to be our starting QB at the beginning of the 2008 season. I just don't see that happening, regardless of how the next couple of weeks play out.

Losman was not drafted by Jauron/ Levy. Losman wants a fat new contract after this year. He's a FA. Edwards did better in 1 game than Losamn has done all year.I like Losman. He's a quality guy, but..... Too bad the Bills didn't open up the playbook like they did for Edwards, but Trent looked sharp and crisp, and oh, what a quick release.

Yeah, I still feel like I haven't seen where Losman is at, skill-wise, this year. The offensive playcalling was so questionable those first two games, and those deep balls from Losman that hit Lee Evans in the hands, only to fall to the ground, would certainly have made a difference in people's opinions. But converting third downs this year and running the clock will be HUGE this year for the Bills, with their depleted DEF. Edwards has shown he can do this, albeit against a very poor Jets pass defense. Losman, in all honesty, has never really shown this ability, at least not consistently. I agree that a solid showing against Dallas (a win can not be expected), and the scale has to tip towards Edwards' favor.

This one is really tough for me. I'm still a big Losman fan. He needs to make quicker decisions still and stop fumbling the ball.

But the offensive playcalling was really terrible and didn't play at all to his strengths the first two games. Losman's biggest strength is a nice deep ball. And yet the Bills called loads of short passing plays and screens. The long passes that they DID call ended up being a few near misses for long TD plays. Losman also played against two of the best pass defenses in the league. He played the #1 pass defense in the league during Week 1 (they're #1 by a large margin too) and the #8 pass defense in the league during Week 2.

They finally decided to open it up in Week 3 and he got hurt on the 1st play of the game. Edwards didn't do too terribly in that game against the #4 pass defense. And Edwards did really well against the #27 pass defense. But who's to say that Losman wouldn't have done well in an opened up offense against the Jets? The Bills offense was so much better during the second half of the season last year when they opened it up more. I'm not really sure why they went back to a more conservative offense to start the year.

And Losman has really given a lot so far. He has shown a total dedication to the Bills and to Buffalo. He bought a house in downtown Buffalo and has been really involved in trying to revitalize the city. He spends more time at the facilities than anyone else. And he's never one to shirk responsibility for playing poorly.

I'd really like to see the Bills give him another shot with an opened up offense. With Evans, Reed, Price and Parrish in the game, it would open up a lot more throwing lanes and options for Losman to get the ball downfield and allow players to make plays. It would also open up the screens to Lynch that they haven't really been running. That's something I don't get at all. They kept talking all offseason about how much they wanted to involve Lynch in the passing game and then they don't really use him in the passing game.

Check back on Tuesday morning. Until then sit tight. If Edwards completely has his head up his butt, it will likely go back to Losman following the bye week.

If Edwards comes out and is accurate and doesn't give the game away I can't believe he wouldn't start against the Ravens.

The fun/sad thing for Bills fans will be if Edwards plays well on MNF, the following week is a bye....allowing two whole weeks of non-stop arguing over Losman v. Edwards.

If Edwards plays well, and Jauron is half as smart as I hope he is, he should announce Edwards as the starter for the next game immediately following the game. If Edwards plays poorly, I mean really poorly, then Jauron has the room to say, "we will make a decision in the next day or two".

It's way too early to give up on Losman, I think he'll be fine when he gets to start again.

The only way this is even a controversy is if Edwards does well next week, and then it's not a knock of Losman, it's a compliment to Edwards. If that happens, I wouldn't be surprised to see Losman starting somewhere else next year. (He'd be a perfect fit in a Martz offense... just sayin' :lmao: )

On a side note, does this have the potential to be bigger than the Flutie vs. Johnson debate?
Nothing will be that big. Flutie took over the city before stabbing everyone in the back. RJ was hated by most but loved by some. The coach albeit a very good coach, really screwed up and cost his team and his job, but hey look at him now. He has a job- coaching the most talented team in the lg.

:goodposting: He'd be a TERRIBLE fit in a Martz offense. Mike Martz has said quite a few times that the most important thing in his system is accuracy. That's the FIRST thing that he looks for. Losman doesn't fit that bill.

I think that when Edwards gets destroyed by the Boys' Monday night, Losman will get his job back.
I think that if Edwards gets destroyed by the Boys' Monday night, Losman will get his job back. But I have a feeling Edwards will do just fine...
