Bug Problem (1 Viewer)

Truth Commission

Footballguy
Very recently, I seem to have attracted little knats/bugs that are hanging out by the kitchen and bathroom sinks. There are not a lot of them, I have killed several of them, but they aren't going away. The kitchen/bathroom is clean. I'm not aware of any issues/smells/cleanliness issues that would be attracting to them, but this needs to be resolved. Not a good situation.

Has anyone dealt with something like this?

If so, what is the solution? Is there something I can purchase at the store if these bugs are attracted to the sinks?

Thank you for your much needed assistance.

Probably just drain flies.

We had some of them at one point this past summer in one of our bathrooms.  You would just notice a few of them each morning on the walls of the shower.  The shower drain didn't seem backed up or anything, but I did a quick snake of the drain and then used some drain cleaner, and haven't seen another fly since.

What kind of drain cleaner did you use?

Yep drain flies. You need to scrub the inside of your drains. Chemicals alone won't get rid of them for long...they lay their eggs in the gunk/slime that lines the inside of the drains. Take the drain cover (s) off and use a small toilet brush with pretty much any type of cleaner (kaboom, comet, etc)

Do they fly or do they jump when you put your finger down near them? Could be Springtails. Those are a major pain in the ####.

My wife uses some vinegar and dish soap in a little bowl. Kills them since they are attracted to the scent.

Thought this was going to be about stink bugs. It was a full on battle with those bastards this year. At any given time in fall there were like 60 on my house. They laugh off wasp and hornet killer. Soap and water though kills em easily

Just really tiny flies basically that do crawl/fly around the sink areas.

I did put Drano Max Gel in this morning. Too early to say if there's any progress.

Do you pour this down the drain or just leave a bowl out for them to kill themselves?

Could this be solved with a professional plumber? I'm not that handy, and, to be honest, am very skittish about eggs/bugs/etc. in the pipes. Makes me very queasy.

A bowl next to the sink. Don't worry about infestations. They go away in due time. Make a new bowl every day. They will be gone in 2-3 days

I will have to ask my wife as she became the expert on the springtail problem we had. It sounds sort of similar to what we had. The bugs were very very tiny but we had a lot of them. They would end up near the drains because they seek moisture. We got treatment for them through Orkin and am still on a plan to treat for them although we have seen fewer and fewer of them around.

If the drain is the source, its an easy fix. They lay their eggs in the slime that lines the inside of the drain. If you dont scrub it out it may take a while to get rid of them. Chemicals will kill the ones you see but the next round will hatch and lay more eggs.

I do restaurant pest control and it's a common problem. Stores call for treatment and we tell them to clean their drains and call us back if the problem persists. They rarely call back.

This sheet pretty much sums it up:

actually they are buzzing around you like are you charlie browns homey pigpen and you are only noticing them when you are near the sink so my suggestion is take a shower take that to the bank brohan

Dude,

Do you have any small bowls you use for condiments like Ketchap or mustard.

Pour some vinegar into it. Then put one to two squirts of dish soap into the vinegar. Leave out next to the drain

You can certainly call a plumber. And they will laugh as you hand them a $150 check for their time
