Build a FRANCHISE draft year 2 (2 Viewers)

I think pre-draft is good if you know you are going to draft a certain position. However, for me, when I have players I want to draft that have different positions, I like to see who gets drafted before me and make a decision manually. A run on a certain position may change my decision for the pick.

If we do a Madden sim this year then I think the best way would be to run multiple sims, like five sims of five years each, and average together your record for each year. Otherwise it's just too random to put any stock into. Like for example last year in the first sim where the salary cap was messed up my team went 11-5 or 12-4 and won the Super Bowl the first year, but in the official sim they went 6-10 and of course missed the playoffs.

Id get involved but dont play video games or own a system.

But if someone was to do it, theyd probably love to get started now, and maybe input teams one day at a time to cut down on having to do a 10 hour shift at once.

5th round Favorites:

Favorite: Mike Iupati 5.24, Josh Sitton 5.01

Least: Paul Posluszny 5.28

Iupati and Sitton are both studs. I'd rather draft relatively young studs on the interior line than draft a solid defensive player generally. Posluszny isn't a bad player but taking an average MLB this early? No thanks.

Also for the fourth round, I forgot to say that I thought Eli was the best value of the round.

With the end of round 6...

Favorite: Phil Loadholt 6.17

Least: Dee Milliner 6.26

Loadholt is a top-tier right tackle who is just 28 and has been consistent over the years. Like my previous post states, I'd rather pick an elite right tackle over a solid defender.

Milliner certainly has upside but in a build a FRANCHISE draft, I don't like to take unproven players this early. I completely understand the pick and upside though. This selection is more of a result of a solid round of drafting.

Very nice picks with Dumervil and Vincent Jackson. I've debated taking them both for a while now.

I don't know why Dumervil hasn't been taken in #PSRWP...

Dumervil - M.Daniels - J.Casey - V.Miller

My offense will score about 3 points per game but with this front 4 it might be enough

Not a great athlete, but 4 straight years in the top 12 in tackles, and Pro Bowler this year. Leader.

Are we actually using Madden to judge this? :o

I thought it was more of a "check back every year to see how everyone's teams look".

The Millner pick was my least favorite this far, I hope he pans out. I really wanted Vontae Davis or Desmond Trufant earlier but they both were taken ahead of me during the round I wanted one of them. Was deciding between him and Prince Amukamara.

Time is the ultimate judge but the idea is towards the end we're going to try and assemble a judging panel of respected writers for some instant gratification.

If somebody wants to do a Madden sim, that'd be cool. But like I said earlier, a Madden sim is extremely unrealistic and not a good indication of if a team is good or bad.

I personally wanted Vasquez or Kyle Long to shore up my O-line, but i decided to start addressing my defense

Melton was a 2013 Pro Bowler and was ready to be a core defensive player on the Bears before tearing his ACL. There is obviously some ?? regarding his injury, but if he comes back to close to 100%, he will be a great DT to build around.

Good pick IMO. I got him in the 3rd last year, though his injury knocks him down some.

I like the Melton pick. I thought long and hard about taking him in round 6 for both my teams but the injury scared me off. He'll end up playing at some point this year but he might not be fully healthy until 2015.

Being a #### here, but the steelers have been on the MFL site multiple times sinxe yesterday and wontake their pick.

Whats up?

Rodgers has Clady, Whitworth, Warford, and Cordy Glenn on his line with Demaryius and DeSean Jackson. If I can build an adequate defense then the Redskins should be a top tier team.

Depending how my line ends up, I think Stafford Jordy Wallace with some actual key defensive guys is gonna be unstoppable lol

I hated having to take Vick as my QB... but there was literally nothing left... and he is pretty damn good value for this round, and in terms of a madden SIM, he's going to be seriously overpowered.

I think an offense of vick, bernard and harvin (to now) is a VERY exciting, agile and sneaky offense to have.

No offense, but that is a weak offense.

went heavy on defense.. LOVE, love love harvin and bernard.... they're not super elite status, but "weak"? nah man...

vick, I would hear you loud and clear... not a great pick but the best of what's available.

Someone has to get harvin the ball and block for bernard. But at least harvin will get yards on returns, if healthy.

It's Broncoesque, but i think your D will be in trouble.
My Redskins I went all-in on offense. My Saints I'm going for a more balanced approach. We'll see which one will work out better. I think I can still piece together an adequate defense for the Redskins but I've got to say I like my Saints team better so far. That could easily change if I can start to snag some values on defense though.

You keep mentioning this, but that's not really what this is about...you do have a fast team though. Anyways Im not sure how much of an advantage that speed is in Madden when simulating (versus actually using the players obviously).

This draft is creating the best NFL team, not best Madden team.

Not worried, amigos.

I really like the Bears so far. Rivers, two stud receivers, a dynamic slot receiver, a competent left tackle, an elite edge defender, and a solid edge defender. Very good core there.

Any Pack fans (or anyone else I suppose) drafting here that can talk to me about Casey Hayward? Took him because he had some very impressive stats his rookie year, followed by not really playing at all his second year with injury. Havent seen much of him so just curious on some opinions while I want to get back otc.

In the limited time he was on the field this year he looked so-so, but last year was an absolute beast, possibly the best slot CB in the league.

Yeah I saw he was mostly/always in the slot. You think he has the size to play outside? I figure he did as hes got just as much size as a lot of other top corners but then again some guys are just best fit in the slot.

To be honest with you I don't know. I've never seen him play outside even one snap, but maybe this is more because Green Bay was confident in their outside corners and didn't want to mess with them than anything else

Thanks. The Bears are definitely looking forward to a bunch of NFC Championship shootouts between them and the Redskins. :)

Noooooooo Dwayne Allen is gone....To the person who runs the Panthers: I hate you (joking)
Thanks haha.

Just gonna say here, I really love how this turn went for Carolina. Allen could be the most complete TE in the league after Gronk, and his ability to be a big positive run blocking allows him to be a better receiving threat in the offense this team will be running. I also snagged Sullivan (I think the first Center taken) as, IMO, the youngest of the top 3 centers in the league and a huge positive run blocker.

This is shaping into a fairly balanced team in that you won't pass on them, and the offense will be able to pound the ball and run play action. Just need a mediocre QB to develop and I think I'll be able to do what I want.

Question: Can we trade draft picks in rookie draft?

The reason we have the rule of no trading is that we don't want people to not pick so they can see if they get any trade offers. That would slow down the whole draft quite a bit. I don't see the harm of allowing trades in the rookie draft before it starts. During the draft, I'd imagine we wouldn't want to allow trades so that the pace doesn't become too slow. However, I'm completely flexible and if the majority wants to allow trades for the rookie draft, I'd be okay with that.

Regarding Allen, he's definitely a very solid, complete tight end and I heavily considered him for the Redskins. However the deal breaker for me was his lack of vertical speed/ability to attack the seam. The pick makes sense for your team but I'm going to want my tight end to be able to be a vertical threat if I use a premium pick on him. And no, he's not more complete than Vernon Davis. :P . He was my 4th ranked TE in this draft though behind Graham, Gronk, and Vernon.

We are at a point where i start to wonder if players on top of my board would fall further.

I've been waiting on Damon Harrison for a while, but he's one of the (if not the) best young DTs against the run. He doesn't get much pressure on the qb, but he'll limit your options.

Dotson might have fallen more but he's one of the best RTs and will likely see time at LT in the future.

Agree that the Allen pick was one of the best this round.
