One week isn't much to go on, but there are definitely some players I am targeting already. It simply isn't logical to abandon all thoughts about a player based on one game. I am the type of person that targets every good player that had a below par game, every week.

Quarterback

Marc Bulger - The Rams won't always have the lead and their WRs are among the most talented in the league. Bulger threw to Holt and Bruce a total of 24 times in a win, and didn't happen to find the end zone. The Rams' schedule is soft.

Daunte Culpepper - His final statistics looked poor, but he won't face a dominating defense like the Steelers every week. I saw enough from Culpepper to believe that he can be a top five quarterback this year. Chambers was top ten playing with QBs that were backup quality. Booker missed some time but was involved when he was on the field. Welker and McMichael are good targets and Ronnie Brown is a capable receiving back. Culpepper blew it in the last few minutes with two picks, but I see it as an opportunity rather than a disappointment.

Matt Hasselbeck - He completed 25 of 30 passes against the Lions without finding the end zone. Jackson played almost every offensive snap and Deion Branch was recently added to the mix. It's unlikely that Seattle will win games so easily this year, especially with all three divisional opponents showing improvement.

Peyton Manning - He didn't post 300 yards and he only threw for one touchdown, but he is the best fantasy quarterback in the game. Never be afraid to make a move for the elite players as you can never know what is in the mind of the other owner. Manning attempted 41 passes and played without his starting slot receiver. It's unlikely that he will approach 49 TDs, but 35+ and 4500 passing yards is not out of the question. I would definitely be looking to package Donovan McNabb or somebody else that had a big game in a deal to acquire Manning.

Carson Palmer - He failed to find the end zone for a game. He was also without one of his starting receivers. The important thing to note about Palmer is that he played the game without reporting any setbacks. He only attempted 19 passes as the Bengals won so easily. He has top three potential so it might be worth making an early move if the owner lost his game on the back of Palmer's performance.

Jake Plummer - I am not prepared to write him off after one game. He's not the best QB out there but he is certainly capable of starting if the matchup is right. He averages about 3.5 more points when playing at home and Walker gives him a big extra target this year. There is almost zero chance that Cutler will replace him this year, unless the Broncos are out of playoff contention (highly unlikely).

Running Back

Shaun Alexander - Just in case the Alexander owner in your league believes in the Madden curse, the post-Super Bowl slump, or that Steve Hutchinson was the reason for Alexander's success. It might now actually be possible to pry Alexander away. He will still command a high price, but it might be value after his bad outing.

LaMont Jordan - He was snuffed out in week one and I am not high on him this year. But his price has now fallen so drastically that he is actually value.

Jamal Lewis - He was spelled extensively in the second half with the game already safe. He showed enough before that to suggest that he can be a top 12 back again. The Ravens will not blow out every team.

Willis McGahee - He didn't score and was on the sidelines with an ankle injury when Anthony Thomas ran the ball in. If anyone thinks that McGahee is now in a RBBC, they are wrong. He claims that he has all his speed back and it shows. Get him before he has a big game.

Clinton Portis - He is a stud. Portis showed that he was back by playing on Monday night. Owners will be spooked that he only had ten carries and on the news that Duckett was slated to be a goal line vulture, but Gibbs will use Portis more and more as the season wears on. When you need him most, he will be there producing. His price will never be lower.

Wide Receiver

Isaac Bruce - He got ten targets and is healthy again. The Rams will generate a lot of points and Bruce is a marginal WR2 at a very low price.

Antonio Bryant - The 49ers have a real live quarterback in Alex Smith. He looks a lot more composed in his second year as the starter. Larry Allen is out for a week or two and that will hurt the line, but Bryant is the favorite target of Smith and should get most of the looks. He had a 52 yard TD called back last week and still managed to post 100 yards. If his owner is looking to sell high, take him. His value will increase.

Chris Chambers - The Pittsburgh factor hurt Chambers on Thursday night, but a vast improvement at QB and 14 targets per game would see him finish in the 5-10 range. Five points doesn't look very impressive so move for him before he has a big game.

Michael Clayton - He had seven targets to Galloway's three. He could be a very cheap option and perform at WR2 or WR3 level.

Braylon Edwards - The Browns don't have much at receiver after Edwards. He scored a 74 yard TD which was ruled out due to a penalty. He clearly has ability and opportunity, and he should improve rapidly with more playing time.

Lee Evans - The Patriots shut him down, but it won't happen often. Losman looks a lot better and Evans is a threat every time he touches the ball. Now is the time to pounce with the Bills facing a weak schedule.

Torry Holt - He could very well be the top receiver this year. He failed to score, but 80 yards on 14 targets isn't bad for a down game. See how much he costs before he has a big game.

Joe Horn - Horn is clearly the best receiver on a team that will not always be able to control the game on the ground. Two catches for 25 yards will make him available at a very reasonable price.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh - Out of sight, out of mind. He should be valuable when he is back on the field.

Darrell Jackson - He played most of the game and is still in a great situation. There will be owners out there that doubt whether he can come back. Don't be one of those guys.

Chad Johnson - The Bengals didn't need to throw in the second half and Johnson still ended the game with seven targets, five catches and 48 yards. Palmer should have found him for a TD when he was open in the end zone. It will probably happen ten times or more in the remaining 15 games.

Derrick Mason - He had over 1000 yards last year and now has McNair to boost his value. The targets should increase in games where the Ravens don't win 27-0.

Randy Moss - Brooks was smothered in defenders on Monday night. It won't always be that bad and the Raiders are probably going to trail often. With an early bye, they will have the chance to work on a few things. So many negative comments have been made after just one game that Moss is criminally undervalued. His value rocketed when he scored twice in a preseason game and that talent is still there.

Steve Smith - He is day to day and some owners may start to worry or forget what a force he can be when he is on the field. You won't get him for nothing, but you might get him for less than he is worth.

Reggie Wayne - He didn't score last week and he missed a few plays after tweaking his knee. He has top ten potential this year with the doubts about the Colts' running game.

Troy Williamson - He was targeted 11 times and had a couple of drops, but he was Brad Johnson's favorite target. He looked for him short, deep, and in the end zone. If your league awards points for kick returns, Williamson's value is even higher.

Tight End

Todd Heap - He didn't score a TD. If you own Miller or Winslow, dangle them in front of the Heap owner. Nine targets is a good number for a TE.

Randy McMichael - He actually caught three of his four targets but penalties ruled out two. Culpepper will boost his value.

Jason Witten - He had a TD called back and was very involved in the game with nine targets.

The store is open. Time to get busy with some offers.

I'd put Simms on the buy-low QB list. He can likely be had as a toss-in in many instances and I still think he will have a good year.

LaMont Jordan - He was snuffed out in week one and I am not high on him this year. But his price has now fallen so drastically that he is actually value.
Price only goes down facing BALT this week. Hold pattern until their bye week (3)
That could very well be a good plan. Watch him struggle again and then swoop when he is on his bye

I think its a no brainer with Jordan.Risky stradegy with Moss, you just never know when he can go off, but one that may end up being wise to take.

Simms was in my thoughts. The line would worry me, but if the Bucs allow 27 points per game, they will definitely have to throw more

Hm, so is there anybody who underperformed his ADP and is NOT on your list?
It's an extensive list but I am in 18 leagues and I look at everybody. Here's one I don't want.... Roy Williams. I just don't buy the hype.
Here's one I'd add: Ben Watson - with Branch totally gone someone has to be Brady's main target, he could be a poor man's version of Gates this fall (and btw, Gates may belong on your list). Here's one I disagree with: Witten. He will have to block an awful lot given their poor line and Bledoe's stonehenge quarterbacking. And when he did go out, he had trouble getting open. His lost touchdown was on offensive interference on his part and he wouldn't have gotten it without interfering. I'm guessing he'll have trouble reaching the top 15 TEs.

I left Gates off the list because I think his value could fall further. Two targets was pitiful. The Chargers can protect Rivers and be conservative, but they will have to pass more than that. Gates still scored and that skews his stats somewhat.

Very nice post.

I will first admit to posting in the KJ bandwagon thread, but I think he belongs on this list. He will have another tough week against CHI, but after that he should be good. He was running hard on Sunday and it was taking much more then the first hit to take him down. He caught some balls and I think he is in a system that will help him succeed.

You've got way too many studs on this buy low list. I don't believe Shaun Alexander or Peyton Manning owners are panicing just yet. Holt had 7 for 80...am i missing something?

He certainly got a high percentage of carries.

I am a rabbit with a (trade) habit and I make offers on most players that had a down week. Obviously, if you trade for a stud, the price is higher. But I still believe in making the offers.

Enjoyed the read. Looks like just about every pre-season top 20 WR is on the list.
I thought a lot of the WRs had a below par week so if the situation is right for a trade, those are the ones that I would target. Even most of the studs failed to score a TD this week.Didn't Wheelhouse state that only Stallworth had 100 yards and a TD?

As you know, Simms looked brutally awful v. the Ravens. And while his performance was shared with the entire offense, the Bucs SOS for QB is one of the toughest this season. I am not sure that Simms will be worth much. I do believe you can buy him low...like off the WW for pennies if not free.FWIW, I cut him and claimed Alex Smith of the WW.I like the promise of Simms before week 1, thinking that Gruden could help him perform well inspite of the tough QB SOS. After seeing him meltdown v. Baltimore, I just don't see it. It also didn't help his cause when Alex Smith was on the WW with SF's easier QB SOS.

Yup...problem is you'll have to part with a buy low guy to get a buy low guy.Personally if I had Dunn or Gore and needed WR help, this would be the week to go shopping.

Agreed. Ahman Green or Fred Taylor might have been added for depth too, and either might net a good WR in return.

' date='Sep 13 2006, 10:23 PM' post='5515188']Maybe your list would be more effective if it didn't have 40 players on it.
I didn't want to limit opportunities. I play in a lot of leagues and I am sure many of the people here do too. Trades usually only happen when the right situation exists. The more I listed, the better the opportunity to find that fit.

Got Holt for Jamal Lewis and Deion Branch

A 2nd rounder for a 6th and 12th rounder, Ahhhhh......

I'm happy.

You like half of the NFL! :P

I've been trying to pry Jake Delhomme off of his owners and I'd have an easier time getting a rifle from Charlton Heston.

That said, I can't imagine what it would take to pry Peyton Manning or Shaun Alexander off of their prospective teams.

Maybe your list would be more effective if it didn't have 40 players on it.
My thoughts exactly. To gain the week one under-performer, he'd have to give up another one on his list. The list is for the 4 team leagues with HUGE rosters. ;)People who go on fire sales after one week = easy $$$

Is anyone worried about Jordan's vanishing catches? Tie that to the 3-13 or 4-12 season Oakland is staring in the face, and I think he'll be a Top 15-20 back this year, not a Top 8-12 guy.

I think it's hard to get some of these big names, guys like Manning, Palmer, Hasselbeck.

McGahee, one TD in 11 games. I'm not a big fan.

Good stuff Muse.

I'd throw Drew Bennett (led NFL in targets wk 1 and will probably continue) and Matt Jones (before he blows up).

I would be worried about his receptions. I don't have solid stats to back me up but Brooks (to me) has always been a downfield passer and not a real accurate dink/dunk type of QB. I think with McGahee, while you always have to consider the past for any player, you have to look at the present and what has changed in players situations. In McGahee's situation I'd say most things have changed for the better from last year. I'm guessing you haven't seen him run in the preseason or the 1st game. He looks great and has that burst back.
