Buzz Around David Boston Completely Gone (1 Viewer)

I definitely wouldn't consider Boston "low risk", given that he most likely won't pan out.

But he's exactly the type of risk I like in dynasty, because if he fails, he will do so quickly and I can drop him in a few weeks. Compare against somebody like Troy Williamson, Matt Jones or Chris Perry who has been wasting space on my roster for years.

What concerns me most is, you can't find a camp report on the guy. Anytime he is mentioned in an article it's a "he's been out of the league 3 years and what a great comeback this would be" with some nice quotes from teammates thrown in. It'd like a Where Are They Now? segment.

Can we get one description of how he looks in camp?

Coach Jon Gruden has given receiver Joey Galloway several afternoons off to keep him healthy for the regular season, and Boston has taken full advantage. Boston has used his size (6-foot-2, 228 pounds) and speed to make easy and difficult catches during training camp.

Sirius was in the Bucs camp this morning. Kerwin and Brandt say great things about Stovall. Then they interviewed Jeff Garcia - asked him about the competition between Stovall and Clayton. Garcia goes Stovall's looked pretty good, but raves about Boston. (Not so effusive about Clayton btw if you can read anything into that). Then Gruden is being interviewed - who is going to win the competition between Clayton and Stovall asks Tim Brandt, Gruden's response is well they ought to be worrying about Boston and then glows about him ("lookign great on pass routes, catching everything, gunner on special teams, etc) with a few good words about Stovall and nonchalance about Clayton. Its not even the first preseason game, but it was a pretty positive report for Boston.

BTW - Gaines Adams - Brandt says he doesn't understand his keys? Gruden says he "alot of natural ability, but an aweful lot to learn". One did not get a positive impression about him from this camp visit at all (and they raved about a later round offensive lineman pick who is going to be a starting guard)

Don't know if this was posted...Depth Chart has some Surprises

Boston is Galloway's backup, pretty much guaranteed a roster spot.

This matches with just about everything Ive been hearing - the Bucs are giddy about him. They might be in denial or maybe its all an elaborate ruse to mess with our heads, but they have been consistent in their tone for the last 3-4 months. They seem to think they have the "old" Boston and they cant contain their enthusiasm.

This sounds good too...

Boston's last chance

LAKE BUENA VISTA --

It's David Boston and a Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback hooked up one-on-one during a recent morning practice, and it's no contest, really. Boston moves ahead by one step then two and easily cradles the deep pass thrown by Jeff Garcia.

It's the type of completion Bucs coach Jon Gruden craves and one the Bucs offense needs if it is to be successful this season. The team can only stretch the defense so far with Joey Galloway. It can use another burner.

Enter David Boston.

"He was a superstar in this league when healthy," Gruden said.

...

Those people haven't been around Disney's Wide World of Sports lately, because, as Gruden said earlier in camp, "David Boston has shown up."

He's beating cornerbacks on deep patterns, getting open on crossing patterns and grabbing everything in sight.

"He's humming," Gruden said. "If the last three months are any indication, he's closing in on making a comeback."

I just read an article.. which said Clayton is running on special teams and likely won't make the roster... let me see if I can find the link: here

Wednesday's Quotes from camp:

Quotes after Wednesday morning's practice session from Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp:

HEAD COACH JON GRUDEN

(Is WR David Boston back to where he was before his knee injury two years ago?)

I think he's getting closer. Our depth chart is changing daily. David Boston is in the mix, not only to make the team but to start. He's having a great camp. He hasn't missed a day. I really like what we see from him.

He's 234 pounds, he's running all the routes at all the positions and he hasn't backed down at any position.

(The impact of having a player like Boston on the field)

Joey Galloway's a very good player. We'd like the flanker position (opposite Galloway) to be stellar for us. Stellar. Boston will get a look at flanker against New England. His versatility is allowing us to do that.

Maurice Stovall started off fast. He's had some sore legs the last few days but I'd like to see him pick it up.

Ike Hilliard's been solid and Michael Clayton has picked it up here the last few days.

It's been competitive and we're excited about that.

This is more of the same. His actual performance didn't get more than two sentences (although they weren't bad). 99% of the article is about how long he's been out of football and about him trying to make a comeback. FBG is lacking a serious Tampa Bay TC report. So I'd like something that isn't a quote from Gruden, who would talk up the possibility of Red Grange starting for them week 1, or his teammates. Something quality from a reporter that discusses him at length (how he's being used, how his speed looks, who he is going up against) but isn't just a fluff piece. Something like we get in the Denver thread.

There are a few observations from reporters in this thread about Boston catching everything in sight, and Garcia touting Boston. More than just Gruden. But I agree, it would be nice to see who the matchups are against. From something I posted earlier, here's a reporter's observation:

Final chance for WR Boston

Veteran viewing his latest opportunity with Bucs as his last

Being he was working with the first string QB, I woudl think he was facing a first string DB. Additionally, if you go back through this thread, I believe there is a quote from Ronde Barber bout how great Boston looks.

What I saw at camp today

What I Saw At Camp Today

Ends and WRs

Stevens height is insane and hes noticably more explosive than Smith. He also caught the ball for a change. Galloway sat out the later practice and was in street clothes. Boston was the most impressive of the group, making a lot of nice catches. He got seperation downfield a few times and showed a solid burst so im thinking hes as healthy as hes going to get. Stovall played well making nice grabs over the middle. Clayton as usual looks slow and was shut down whenever he was near BK. Hilliard brouhgt about the usual and the rest of the guys arent impressive. The group as a whole is really slow, watching them run out isnt pretty.

Bucs WR Boston #2 On Depth ChartJay Glazer, FOX Sports - [Full Article]Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver David Boston is currently #2 on the depth chart behind WR Joey Galloway, and apparently his play in the pre-season will decide his fate. "I'm healthy again, I'm stronger and faster than I've ever been, I feel great," Boston said. "Like I said, I've learned from my mistakes. I think I took football for granted in the past. Now, obviously family comes first, but football comes right after it. Everything I was back then I'm better at everything now," Boston added. "I'm faster, I'm stronger and I'm more explosive than I was back then. I'm just grateful that I've got a second chance and hopefully it works out."

THAT'S what I'm looking for.

It's good to know that I can possibly get a solid WR3 at WR5 in most of my drafts.

Yes, I'm drinking the kool-aid and picked him up when this thread first started in my dynasty league where I'm very thin at WR.

1st preseason game1 catch, 5 yardsAnyone see the game? Was he with the 1st or 2nd team?
Didn't see the game, but from what I read he started.
He started and looked good. He looked like the Boston of 2001 on his catch. Ran a great route, got good separation and caught the ball cleanly with his hands. Really a thing of beauty. Comeback player of the year candidate for sure this year. If Galloway get hurts Boston could be a monster.

Signed Boston to the taxi squad last week. Now that both Kenny Irons and Glenn Earl are headed to IR  I'll be able to activate him when the season starts.

i hope the rest of his preseason games he goes 1 for 5 also..

this is the only site i read so can someone tell me if he is generating FF buzz in general? ie what is his ADP or is he getting drafted at all?

trying to gauge the chance that the non FBGs in my league have heard the buzz?

2 weeks ago i was ready to take him in the last couple of rounds of the draft. im thinking more like round 14-16 now..

From ESPN:

"Boston, who started at wideout alongside Joey Galloway for Tampa Bay Friday night, caught one pass for five yards.

Spin: Although Boston was in the starting lineup over Maurice Stovall and the injured Michael Clayton, Boston and Stovall essentially split playing time during the first half before both left the game. Boston has emerged as a strong contender for a starting job when the season begins."

Must have got at least 20 yards of separation on that 5 yard pass.

whew....I had been holdin my waiver position all offseason and been wanting to grab this fella for about 2 weeks now, (although i picked him up in other leagues) but this one league where i could use a gem at wr, i waited and waited till tonight, and got him off waivers.

Im pretty happy about it :lmao:

It really dont cost me anything other than my waiver spot which i would have had to use to claim anyone anyway.

I hope he keeps it up!!

Got Boston in the last round(18.01) in a 3 keeper league. We've expanded the starting lineup to by adding a flex position along with starting 2rb's and 3 wr's. So if he produces he'll fill my flex spot and that'd be pretty good for him being my last pick. If he doesn't pan out that's fine too. I can use him for a drop on the hot waiver wire pickup.

Boston has looked good in OTAs/camp and is a threat to take the #2 WR job for the Bucs. Like most threads, there are links to articles and opinions for both sides.

You mean you really couldn't take the 5-10 minutes to skim through the thread?

:kicksrock:

:fishing:gotta love the hype. by week 4 he will be on none of your rosters.
Okay, so? I'll admit the hype is getting a tad out of hand but where's the downside? Who else might you be drafting instead of getting Boston?
:kicksrock: I got him 178th overall so there is no downside.
Who did you take with your next pick?
The suspended Chris Henry from CIN. I figure 8 weeks should give me a decent guage on Boston and if he's a no-go then Henry will be available in week 10. As my #6WR I think this was a good combo risk.

Well, let's be honost.......besides the fact that D. Boston has to prove himself all over again, how valuable is the WR2 in the Tampa Bay offense.

Is he going to catch enough balls to make him a weekly starter? Over the past couple of seasons the only person worth starting has been Galloway and the rest praying for Clayton but getting 2 receptions for 17 yards in the end result.

Bull or Bear market on this.......I'm definately Bear. I've always got my eyes open and will continue to do so, but I'm not high on any WR2 on Tampa Bay as I'm still salty over Clayton. For me, his lack of production the past couple of years is still one of the most confusing things.......anyway, I do hope Boston does well. If there was a bandwagon thread, I'd jump on the "I hope he comes back" side but I have to admit I'm more of a skeptic here.

Considering Boston is going in the 17th/18th round of drafts who would you be drafting instead of him? I agree the TB offense has been woeful but I think a lot of that has been no reliable WR2. I think the idea is Boston can be had for cheap very late and therefore is a no risk high reward pick. Many of the late picks become waiver wire fodder anyway so if you have to drop him then it should not materially affect your team as he should be your WR5/WR6.
