I'm thinking that Caddy is the better choice this year, but that DeAngelo has better long term value. What does the bored think?

I like Caddy. If he can stay healthy, he has a chance to be a Curtis Martin type.

I've always thought DeAngelo was a little overrated.

I really don't like either of these guys, but I would love to hear someone's reasoning for why DeAngelo would have more future value then Caddy.

DeAngelo Williams will never be a goal-line guy imo...Caddy will get his chance this season.

I'll take Cadillac now and long-term.

caddy should be more valuable this year, at least at this point, because his starting status isn't in question, & in CAR foster is reportedly set to start... looks like williams is in a RBBC this season, & may get less than half the carries...

long term, both imo could be special RBs... they aren't without risk, as they both come with injury risk baggage dating back to college...

caddy has outstanding run instincts, is shifty & is an above average size, speed, elusiveness package... if he gets help on OL & from passing game he could play more like his '05 form than last season... he needs to stay healthy, as he has been dinged up in each of his pro seasons & he shared carries at auburn with ronnie brown, & isn't exactly that proven as a feature RB at this level...

for some reason there seems to be a perception by some that williams is too small or too slow or not really a special RB... i think he is #1 in ncaa history in 100 yard games (34?)... it is a cliche that many record breaking RBs in college did little or nothing in the NFL... as to his physical attributes, i think his bio reported he was the fastest prep in state of arkansas (10.7 or 10.8 100 m)... now that may not win in a bigger state like CA, TX or FL too many years, but it is still pretty fast (williams is a lot bigger now, & no doubt would have trouble clocking such a speed... but than again, he is still pretty fast and with the additional weight is arguably a much more dangerous size/speed combo)...

size-wise, williams is short but not small... i think he is just shy of 5'9", & may have bulked up for combine last year & was reportedly about 215, but may be closer to 210 now... if so, that would make him fairly close in stature to emmitt smith's reported measurables in his first few seasons... he also has a similar strong lower base with mammoth thighs, so there doesn't seem to be much question that size shouldn't be an impediment to greatness... if his physique mirrors one of the greatest & most durable RBs in NFL history...

at least based on film from his college days, williams looks to me to be a natural, pure runner with spectacular open field running skills... imo he is more talented than foster (we got a glimpse in one of the few games he got substantial playing time late last season, when i think he went off for about 100 rushing yards, 50 receiving yards & a long TD on a screen)... like caddy he has had health issues, but i think if he can put that behind him it is just a matter of time before he starts... he has the goods to be an above average NFL runner... top 10-15 (maybe better, with upside)...

It is difficult to disagree with the reasoning here. Although I initially liked Caddy when he came out, I quickly soured. Now, it may be that he has a poor line blocking for him and poor QB play that allows defenses to stack the line, but regardless he isn't getting the job done. I feel that he will perform better when Gruden leaves or he goes to his next team (think Thomas Jones).Deangelo Williams will likely take over by the 6th game, in my opinion. In PPR leagues his value will be much higher than otherwise. I see Foster being relegated to 10 carries a game before mid-season.I generally tend to be slightly ahead of the curve on RB's, for whatever reason. I ranked Williams as more valuable this season and in the future.

Foster looked very good against the Giants the other night. Seemed to be running real hard and Carolina was using him in the passing game as well.

if he was that good he'd be starting by now . . . it's not like he has to beat out Superman . . .

williams inability to start so far (he was just a rookie last season) could reflect a few things...

fox being loyal to veterans

foster being more "complete" back, at least at this stage (deangelo appears to me a more explosive runner, but he reportedly suffers in comparison with foster in pass protection)...

but another way to parse this issue is to observe that of the top 10 rushing yardage leaders in the NFL in '06, most of the RBs didn't have LT/edge-type rookie seasons... 500-700 yards was typical... some of them may have had more talented RBs in front of them (than williams has in front of him)... even some of the very best RBs in the league, like LJ, steven jackson, frank gore, shaun alexander, ex-player tiki barber, etc, didn't light it up year one in the NFL...

anyone know why it says 184 votes when only 155 total votes are listed? I'm been keeping a close watch on this and it looks like everyone has voted for both polls.

You can choose to nullify your vote in order to just view the results. I'm guessing the difference is the number of people who selected that option.
