While the boards have fielded much debate on the Ronnie vs. Caddy discussion, I haven't seen much on these two (head to head). Both are smallish backs that have a history with injuries.

Portis certainly gained the injury prone tag early in his career, just as Caddy has. With this year's shoulder injury, I'm sure Portis will have a difficult time shaking the label.

Given what we know (or think) now, which back do you prefer?

Caddy has Alstott and Pittman vulturing carries and TD's

Portis has Duckett and Betts

Caddy knockers point to his foot injury of last year and say he can't handle the load

Portis is already injured and may remain so the rest of the season

Which do you prefer and why?

Caddy for me, but not by a wide margin, because he is the safer pick if the draft were now. I still think that there is a decent chance that Portis will finish as a Top 10 RB, but the current uncertainty around his health makes me cautious.

I'm assuming that we are talking about a redraft league here.

And roughly in the 8-12 drafting position.

Are these assumptions correct?

I'm just generally curious more than anything. For the purpose of discussion however, your assumptions work for me.

I thought Portis could be faking it. I have the feeling he thinks he is elite and was pissed he was even on the field. First big hit and he got his alibi. But

NFL network's Eisen interviewed him in his backyard and he didn't look like he was faking it. Considering his ego, I still think he will be a stud. But then the Duckett thing. Wasn't WSH glowing over Betts all preseason? WTF? Now I am not so sure what to think. Don't they still have Cartwright and Sellers? The Duckett thing doesn't make sense to me unless Portis is really a question mark.

This poll is going to tell you more about how concerned people are with the Portis injury than anything else. I'm with those who picked Caddy here, but would've picked Portis a week ago. Caddy isn't a big enough drop-off for me to have to try to figure out why Duckett is now a Redskin.

Given the assumptions, voted Portis.Full disclosure: Portis owner in two leagues and have let someone else draft Caddy because I'm not sold on him. Both have question marks but at least I have seen a "full" season of quality performance out of Portis in the past.

I understand your point. The general staff rankings have Caddy and Portis neck and neck even with the news on Portis, so I thought they'd make a good comparison. Why is Duckett a 'Skin? Is there something we are missing here or is he simply an insurance policy?

I believe Duckett was brought in specifically to reduce Portis' pounding this season, and the goaline will be a big area for Duckett to thrive. I also believe that Alstott's role is being greatly overestimated this year in TB. Caddy is a much better and more effective GL back than Alstott is now. Pittman will spell Caddy, but Alstott will be a non-factor. Caddy will be the goaline back.

This will probably change soon. Several haven't updated rankings. Most of the 8/22,23 rankings have Caddy higher; most of the ones before that, the reverse.

Gibbs will NEVER do anything other than praise a player in public. He'll bash himself or the coaching staff or the team as a whole, but he'll never say anything bad about an individual player to the media.

I can agree with that. However, the gap is pretty small (8th for Caddy, 12th for Portis on average) while it's huge for the official Dodds FBG's rankings. I wasn't sure if the boards felt the gap was that large.
