Cadillac Williams - Dynasty Value (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
In my salary-cap keeper league, I dropped out of playoff contention earlier this year (after winning 3 of the last 4 years) and traded Rudi Johnson (required league free agent next season) for Cadillac Williams and Cedric Benson (both with 1 year contracts remaining.

I didn't hesitate to make the trade. I thought this was one of those unbelievable buy low opportunites. I couldn't keep Rudi next season and I was getting two RBs drafted in the top 5 of the NFL draft in return. I was a little nervous about Benson because he is behind Jones and there is talk that his team doesn't love him.

But there was no hesitation in my mind about Williams. NFL Rookie of the Year. 1178 yards, 4.1 ypr, and 6 TDs in 14 games. Sure, he was injured, but he looked good at the end of the season.

Well, I am really disappointed with Williams. I respect Bloom and Pasquino and their combined rankings have Williams as the #15 dynasty RB. I have trouble seeing ahead of guys like MB3, MJD, Tatum Bell, Brandon Jacobs, etc.

I am looking for a realistic view on Williams. Are there reasons why he has looked so bad? Or should I be realistic and try to trade on his marquee value in the off-season.

I haven't watched any of his games, so I can only go by the box scores. And, admittedly, I haven't followed the news closely. But here is my list of things that seem to be contributing to his lack of success. Will these improve next season (am I wrong about these)? Other reasons to be optimistic?

1. Injury. I think he had back problems in the pre-season. Is there a chance that we'll find out that this injury lingered all season and caused him problems? If yes, is this an injury that can be fixed?

2. Offensive Line. Sounds like TB has had OL problems. Is this due to injury? Can the OL be fixed next year?

3. QB play. Gradkowski has been awful. Have teams been stacking the line against TB as a result? Then again, Williams didn't look so good when Simms was in. Should I feel good about the idea of Simms returning?

Thanks.

I'll give you a few reasons:

1) He hits the hole like a real running back should.... legs always moving fowrad.

2) He has infinite confidence, so he's not going to cry and get beat.

3) His OL is going to be very good very soon. All of the pieces are there, minus a franchise left tackle, which the Bucs will get in the draft in April.

4) Bruce Gradkowski won't be the quarterback.

5) He's starting to catch the ball out of the backfield quite well.

Have patience.

Both Benson and Cadillac should be very solid for you next season.

Well if your worried shop in after the season. Someone may give you full value for him. I wont touch him myself but in all of my leagues his price is very high. You got good value to get him so you may want to ride it out. But i would send out some full price offers..You never know

It can't get much worse for him, can it?

I've been thinking of buying low on him this offseason, but I'd like to see what moves TB does first.

If Alstott would retire already the guy becomes a fringe RB#1. All that is holding him back is the lack of goalline TDs on his resume. With the way that the NFL changes from offseason to offseason, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Buc's have an above average offense coming into 2007.

Hopefully he works on his pass catching skills in the offseason so that can stay in on the occasional passing situation as well.

Cadillac is the same player he was in 2005....he just doesn't have the same team around him. He is young, he will bounce back.

Disclaimer: I'm a Cadillac dyansty owner

I own Caddy in a 3 man keeper league, and I am not drinking the same kool-aid as the rest of the guys here.

I will say that this is only my opinion, as I haven't watched a lot of TB games this year. And TB is not a team that I follow closely at all.

However, if I was asked today to submit my keepers for next season, Caddy would NOT be on that list. I don't see him breaking the top 10 RBs next year, and even the top 15 will be a real stretch in my opinion.

But there is a lot of time between now and September 2007. So a lot can change.

:goodposting: ... not sure about Benson, but I agree that Caddy will be fine.

I generally agree with this. While things indeed change very quickly in the NFL, it was only a year ago that Caddy propelled his way to ROY. A better supporting cast will undoubtedly help, as he can't do it all. From a goal line vulture perspective, Alstott should be gone, but I'd be a bit concerned that they bring in another specialist (e.g., Duckett).

Alstott only has 2 TD's this season.

Mainly because the Bucs' offense has been allergic to the red zone this year.
