Cadillac Williams resurgence? (1 Viewer)

As we all know Carnell Williams has been one of the biggest disapointments this season. There are numerous reasons why he has not been very successful.

Poor offensive line play

Starting a rookie Qb/ more 8 man fronts

Falling behind in the scoreboard/abandoning the run

This week the Bucs are playing against the Redskins who are starting Jason Campbell at Qb. Campbell has never played at this level before yet and some a speculating that he will struggle in his 1st start against a good Bucs defense. In addition to Campbell starting for the 1st time the Redskins will also be without thier 2 best offensive playmakers, Clinton Portis and Santana Moss. Both are out with injuries.

So this may be an ugly game and the Redskins may struggle to score. The Redskins may also turn the ball over giving the Bucs offense good field position and more scoring opportunities.

Will this be a game that Cadillac Williams can get the ball more than 20 times?

Gruden has shown a lack of commitment to giving Williams the ball this season and Williams has been a Rb that gets better as the game goes on as long as they keep feeding him.

I think this week Cadillac will get enough opportunity to have more than 20 carries. And when he does more often than not he has been a good performer. He may even score a TD this week. I'm hoping that this is the week Williams gets the confidence of Gruden back and Chucky will let him carry the offense from here on out. He has to see that passing the ball as often as they have is not working for them. The Redskins defense is ranked 16th vs. the run 31st vs. the pass.

So far this year Gruden has seemed to believe they need to pass to set up the run. It may just be wishful thinking on my part that his philosophy will change. Now is a good time to try somthing different and let the player that made this team successful last year do it for them again.

Prediction 27 carries 124 yards 1 TD 2 catches 27 yards.

Yeah, losing 2 or 3 Olineman and a QB will do that to a RB. He may do better this week because the Skins are so bad but I'm more inclined to wait til next year for him to be a bargain.

Bucs are 8-0 with Caddy getting 20 or more touches, how Gruden doesn't get that info is beyond me. I love your projections and only wish Caddy puts it into a higher gear, I would hate to bench him

Well he didn't get the TD. Becht :X  but I nailed the # of carries and catches. :D yardage was off by 5. :banned: Gruden finaly stuck with the running game and they won. I hope this will give him confidence in sticking with it now. I liked the early runs with Alsuck too. Should always try to do that to pummel the defense a bit early on.Anyone else think this will continue? Or was it only possible against a slow starting offensive team?Schedule moving forward does not look promising. :( at Cowboys at Steelers vs Falcons at Bears at Browns vs Seahawks

Excellent call. You would've gotten the TD too if Gruden had given Cadillac a shot when the Bucs had a first-and-goal from the 1. Instead he tried Alstott twice and he failed to get in.

It would be nice to believe the light bulb went on for Gruden about how important it is for him to show more of a commitment to Cadillac. I've been impressed by how hard Cadillac has been running. He just hasn't gotten a real opportunity most weeks. Today he did and we saw the results.

This week the Bucs have to travel for an early game with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys are on a emotional high from beating the previously undefeated Colts.

The Cowboys defense was extremly impressive forcing Manning to throw 2 interceptions as well as forcing fumbles from Manning and Marvin Harrison. They held the Colts offense to 14 points and no points in the 4th quarter.

The Bucs look woefully outmatched in this game. If Gruden thinks his rookie Qb will have success throwing the ball against this defense that just did this to the greatest Qb in the game right now hes crazy. I am hoping the Bucs give the Cowgurls a strong dose of Williams and thier defense can hold the Gurls scoring down at least early in the game.

This is a game the Cowgurls should win but the Bucs only chance is to let Caddy carry them and play sound defense.

Prediction: Carnell Williams 22 carries for 76 yards 0 TD 4 catches 33 yards 0TD

i like thats a decent prediction for caddy, you know Dallas is always up for the thanksgiving game (i am still trying to wipe the thought of Dayne busting that run last year in OT) and after that win vs. indy Dallas has a ton of confidence. If Dallas gets up early (which i see happening) i see this being a rough day for all the Bucs skill players.

Pretty good job again with the prediction.

Cadillac seems to be getting his second wind. He had a great game last week and I thought he ran the ball very well yesterday against the Cowboys. 13 carries for 67 yards at halftime against a strong run defense is pretty impressive. The game got out of hand quickly in the second half and he was done but right now he is becoming a very viable starting option again.

The concern would be a repeat of the second half yesterday - the Bucs get buried quickly and Cadillac's day is done since Gruden shows no inclination to giving him many third-down reps. And, of course, the fact Alstott will vulture all of the goal-line looks. But if he can get 15+ carries he's looking like someone who can get you (at worst) solid yardage. It'll be interesting to see how he does against Pittsburgh next week but I liked how Gruden actually gave Cadillac a chance yesterday (something he hasn't done for most of this season) and Cadillac responded very well.

I definitly think Cadillac is a much better Rb than his numbers would lead people to think. Gruden has held him back for the majority of the season moreso than Williams just not performing. If Williams could have gotten just one more yard and punched the ball in for the TD... or if Gruden would have let him get the carry from the 1 yard line instead of Alsuck.. in other words Gruden is still holding him back from a FF perspective.

I was hoping that the Bucs could play better on defense than they did. But they never had decent pass rush on Romo without Rice in the lineup for them. And Dallas Oline is one of thier biggest weaknesses.

Also was hoping Williams might get a few screen passes but that still seems to be a hole in his game. Which makes me wonder if he is ill suited as a feature rb in what Gruden wants to do on offense. Which seems to be going back to the Raider 70% throwing with Charlie Garner being a 2 way player. Williams is no Garner.

The most reassuring thing is that Gruden is at least having more balance of running plays to passes over the past 2 weeks than what we saw earlier in the season. Williams runs very strong he broke 3 tackles on one play alone. I was seeing the same thing from him earlier in the season when the offensive line was playing worse than it is now and Williams was having to break tackles or make defenders miss just to get back to the line of scrimmage. It is hard to expect much from him against the Steelers next week though. Will give that some more thought and post a prediction later.

I wonder if I am the only person out there considering playing Williams during FF playoffs?

No one else seems to be very interested in his short term performance having allready written him off I guess.

I think the best thing that could possibly happen to Cadillac, is if Gruden decides to coach Dallas next year per all the rumors. Kinda reminds me of Kevin Jones last year, Tampa is just not using Caddy correctly. Maybe Martz in Tampa in 2007? As a Caddy dynasty owner I can hope.

I'm also considering Cadillac in the playoffs if I get that far. Flex league though.

He's far too talented in my opinion to just write off. He's not in a good situation and the Kevin Jones/2005 analogy is one I've made as well. I don't think there's any question that for the bulk of the season Gruden hasn't used Cadillac properly or the running game as a whole. He's given up on it far too quickly. The last two weeks he's been more committed to it and we've seen Cadillac put up some strong numbers. That's going to be the key the rest of the way - if Gruden sticks with the running game more, even if it's not busting off huge gains all the time or the Bucs aren't in front, that's going to help Cadillac become at least a solid RB3 in flex leagues. The last two weeks he's put up viable RB2 numbers which is a reflection of his talent in my opinion. I don't know what to think about next week against the Steelers. This week's matchup against the Cowboys wasn't a good one on paper either but he had a good game and had a great first half. If he can get 12-15 carries again in the first half against the Steelers he could put up another solid yardage day.So then it comes down to your lineup. If 70+ yards rushing is something you need than you turn to Cadillac. If that isn't going to be of any help you don't consider him.

As a Cadillac owner in a Dynasty league, I pray to the fantasy gods nightly that Jon Gruden gets his walking papers in Tampa. That offense is beyond pathetic, and Simms being out is no excuse -- they were WORSE the first few games of the season with Gruden's hand-picked guy. That offense is severely broken, and Gruden's the supposed offensive genius.

Gruden isn't going anywhere for at least another season.
