California botulism outbreak tied to gas station nacho cheese sauce (1 Viewer)

Not a very well written article, with one paragraph having a rather odd sentence:

State and county health officials have confirmed nine people have been hospitalized, including possibly a 16-year-old. Five cases were first reported on May 5. This week four more people have become sick. A tenth person is being tested after showing similar symptoms related to the rare and potentially fatal illness.
Of the nine people hospitalized, why is it important to know that one of them is possibly a 16-year-old? That person could possibly be any age. Would it matter if instead the person is possibly a 25-year-old or possibly a 40-year-old? The author had some point in telling us that there may have been a teenage victim, but I don't see really see how knowing that adds to the story, particularly when the ages or any information about the other victims was not given. (?)

Gotta blame the consumer...they should know you only purchase cigarettes, lottery tickets and Red Bull at these type of locations...

Depends on what you call "gas station".

Wawa: hell yeah!

Sheetz: ok

7-11: tread carefully

Random standalone gas station: I'll grab a snickers.
Exactly. It's not just gas stations. You could be more at risk at any non-name brand places. There was this place called Hamburger Palace that was always in trouble. They finally closed after a few people got sick. Pack yourself an icebox of your own food if you aren't sure there are Wendy's and McDonald's type of places en route.

Who else had to Google for the definition of botulism?
I learned what botulism is on this board.  Back when FFA used to hijack the "What do you need on Monday Night?" Shark Pool thread, a user once c&p'ed the entire contents of the botulism Wikipedia page as a Reply.

  that's what makes this place great.

The black cracker in the middle of the tuna sandwich you can buy in the gas station is a tomato.

Not a term that one has heard much in the last 60 years. Use to be quite common in the days when people did their own canning of vegetables and other edibles before frozen foods and home freezers became common place.
