CAMERON WAKE (1 Viewer)

WAKE IS IN DUMERVIL'S SPOT IN NOLAN'S 3-4. DOES HE HAVE DUMERVIL'S UPSIDE? NORTON IS PROJECTION 9 SACKS. ANYONE WANT TO COMMENT ON THIS GUY? I'VE SEEN THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM HIS DAYS AND IN THE CFL AND WAS IMPRESSED. IS THIS GUY A STEAL IN DRAFTS RIGHT NOW?

I own him in several leagues...I will definitely be targetting him in my IDP redraft league this year...I would probably shoot for mid-rounds, but no later...

I don't know if he's a steal, but he is inexpensive, and in a sack-heavy league, he's the perfect risk/reward candidate.

From my Reading the Defense column last month:

What caught my eye from last season's OLB Pressure Percentage figures:

* Cameron Wake's sample size is a fraction of that of a full time player like DeMarcus Ware or Tamba Hali, but his situational pass rushing skills would seem to be off the charts based on this metric, which show that Wake at least knocked down the quarterback one out of every four times he rushed the quarterback. If he earns a larger role in Miami this year, he's worth a long look as a priority upside target in big play leagues.
He was already a strong big play option against good matchups as a situational player.Wake and Charlie Anderson had been splitting base defensive reps during OTAs, so it wasn't clear whether the team saw him as more than a situational player last month. Now that he's taking all the first team reps, it's clear that the team wants him and Koa Misi to play OLB full time. He's all upside in that role with his current ADP.

Still two concerns here, however. First, if he plays every down, he needs to show that he can be as explosive during 60 snaps as he was when he had fresher legs in limited duty. Second, there's enough tape on him now that he'll have to prove he's either too quick to block or has enough pass rush moves to counter the adjustments made against him.

I think I prefer Misi instead of the 2. Wake is weak against the run from what I have read and will be a hit or miss type of guy. Probably good in best ball events only as your #5 or 6 LB

He absolutely destroyed in thE CFL and Vancouver is cheering him on. I hear that he's not grasping the playbook like the rookie behind him.

What is the latest on Wake?

I am also interested to hear what the staffers think of Wake as compared to Ayers.

As far as I can tell he is starting and will continue to start. Misi was terrible and probably won't be playing every down so that all but guarantees that Wake gets the first crack at rushing the QB. Anecdotally, I think the team kept a short leash on him during preseason with a plan to unleash him game 1.

Is he a feast or famine play...ie is he only useful in a big play IDP league. Will he get tackles and sacks or will he only show up if he gets a sack. Dumervil comparison is what I am getting at. I had Dumervil last year and I felt like if he didn't get a sack I was somewhat screwed.

this is what i think. he's not even the exclusive designated sack artist for the Phins. guys like misi will be attacking the QB too.
