Can Brees keep it going with his Oline now also depleted (1 Viewer)

Nesbitt is supended for 4 games, and Brown is hurt. With the loss of Colsten, Shockey and prob Patten on top of Oline problems- don't we have to downgrade Brees?!! It's hard to think of benching a guy who just passed for 400 yds, but I have Warner in the wings, and it just seems that at some point Brees has to be hurt by all this.. I know the system and the spread it around philosphy helps him, but I also remember suffering through the first 5 games of last year when his line wasn't giving him time to throw!!

So what's the consensus on Brees now?

ps. a bit of possible good news is Draft Sharks is reporting that Colsten has told a beat reporter in NO that he will be playing in Week 6....

do you have a link for that tidbit?

If this o-line news is correct, this might be the time to sell. After last week's game, I don't see his stock getting much higher.

Sure he has to be downgraded after losing two big weapons but don't get to carried away. No one in the NFL attempts more passes so he's going to get you production most weeks just not the #1 or #2 fantasy production I thought he would provide. If you can hold tight on him until he gets Colston/Shockey I think he'll be the best fantasy QB from weeks 10-16 due to his schedule and the fact guys like Cutler have to deal with the elements. Just have to hope the OL losses don't get him roughed up and hurt.

One other thing that might help soften the loss of Colston and Shockey. He played 3 previous games as a Saint without either Colston or Shockey. He had two monster games including throwing for over 500 yards with two high 20 point fantasy outputs and one average game.

A BEAT WRITER also wrote that Sproles would get a vast majority of the carries Monday night... People and their beat writers...

As a Colston Owner I'd be estatic, but I take this with a grain of salt

But to answer your question... Brees lost Colston, everyone wanted to downgrade him. He loses Shockey and people STILL want to downgrade him. Last year he was awesome and he didn't have Shockey, or this good of a running game. The OL problems are worrisome, but at the same time he has Reggie Bush. If he's rushed he can always dump it off to Bush. An owner of both (Bush and Brees... yes I own 3 Saints...) that's awesome.

And as it's mentioned above, you cannot downgrade ANYONE who is playing DET week 16. No way you sell him now. Too low. He has potential to be the #1 QB in the league (4th in my league by only 14.2 fantasy points). All this without Colston. Just imagine when Colston comes back!

Brees was terrible though at the start of last season when HE did have Colsten because the Oline was letting the pass rush in and he had to hurry his throws... Once they got the protection better, he was lights out... He had Bush to dump down to then too, but it didn't help...

So the oline problems worry me more than the WR's at this point.

Brown and Nesbit's backups (Zach Strief and Carl Nicks) are pretty solid.

Brown used to be a much better player. I don't know what's up with him now but he wasn't too good last year and hasn't been this year either. Nesbit has been looking like the weak link in the line since the preseason and plenty of Saints fans were hoping Nicks won the LG job anyway.

I think the chances are high that you will see better run blocking from the line with these two backups in. Pass pro might not be quite as good but they can afford a little bit of downturn in that area.

Brees has lost quite a few weapons but with the NO defense being so bad.. he still will be solid & with Colston coming back later in the year he will still be a top 5 QB for sure...

Colston had a lower back injury for the first half of the season last year... that might have had something to do with it as wellAlso, Bush wasn't as good last year. Well, let me re-word, Bush wasn't used to his full abilities last year. It looks like the Saints finally are realizing how to use him, which is taking pressure off of Brees. Teams can't send more than 5 guys because Bush demands at least one guy man-to-man. And name one LB in the league who can beat Reggie Bush in a foot race... The fact that Bush has emerged as a top talent this season decreases the abilities of teams to pass rush Brees. Teams didn't need to fear Reggie Bush in previous years. The saints didn't know how to use him and Bush really didn't know the game as much (every year of experience counts)... but things are much different now.Obviously Brees is downgraded a little, but you CAN'T justify that as a reason to sell. He's still one of the best QBs in the league, and he's getting his main weapon back in as early as 2 more games. Reggie Bush counts for more this year than he has any other year

The Saints defense actually isn't that bad.....I mean, they were terrible against Washington, but they had 4 starters and several key role players out. They were decent against Denver, held Cutler under 300 and the Broncos under 100 rushing yards as a team. The 34 points isn't as bad as it looks because one of Denver's touchdowns was a fumble return and another came on a short field (IIRC).Just sayin'.

so, what do you see from him this week with the injuries? I agree-he's top five for the season. San Fran has good corners and a decent pass def. This could be one of Bree's lesser games which all Qb's are going to have once in awhile...

Good take on things imo--and hits close to home in my case (I've got Cutler 'backing up' Brees). I have been trying to deal him for value--but no takers so far--since either they want the cheap buy, or they want the hot Cutler. Works by me--though there's improvements I would like I'm also set enough to play it out with that pair depending on matchups.
