A lot of the Spanish-language papers and websites have been reporting a whole lotta bs this offseason. I think the one thing they nailed was Damaso Marte re-upping with the Yankees. But they've reported a number of things that have turned out to be completely erroneous. I'm assuming we can add this one to the list, but figured I'd pass it along nonetheless.

Well, Cashman and Girardi don't want him. Girardi likely doesn't even want to consider the possibility. Hank Stein wants him badly...Hal not so much but apparently isn't 100% against it.

So I wouldn't say EVERYONE who runs the Yankees is an idiot; just the most important people. Interesting to see who wins this power play. I'd say it's far more likely that Manny goes to one of the LA teams than the Yanks.

Angels 60% (if they're serious about being out of it for Tex)

Dodgers 20%

Yanks 10%

Everyone else 10%

ETA: Angels 0%

Dodgers 51%

Yankees 49% (because who knows what ends they'll go to to sign people at this point?)

Everyone else 1%

Implied in the notion that they're a bunch of morons is whoever is behind the decision to not pursue Teixeira, sign Burnett, not trade for Santana last year (i.e., ultimately deciding Ian Kennedy was more important), outbidding themselves for CC, etc., etc., etc...There should be a stupidity tax to offset the luxury tax they spend each year. Clearly, they have very bad ideas on how to allocate their cash cow.I'm tired of watching this team blow another ####### offseason. Can you tell?

I think they had to outbid themselves for CC, and Burnett is at least a better option than Lowe. If they had traded for Santana last offseason, they wouldn't have CC or Hughes right now. It wasn't going to be Kennedy/Melky for Johan no matter what people have written about that being the deal.I'd rather give Tex $22 million rather than Burnett $18 million but not because I think Tex is so awesome or anything. I just think when you spend that much you want more of a sure thing. Still, they're clearly focused on upgrading the pitching staff. It's obviously debatable whether they've significantly done so despite all the money being spent, but it's tough to argue with their priorities. All we've heard for the last eight years is that the Yankees hit enough but they don't have enough starting pitching. So they went out and got two of the best FA pitchers on the market but now people want hitters.

To say nothing of the outfield defense. If the Yankees want to throw some combination of Manny, Damon, Swisher and Matsui out there as part of their defense, most Sox fans would say "giddyup!"

Manny won't be an Angel.

"Manny will not be an Angel," Reagins said in his first public comments since the Angels pulled their offer to Teixeira on Sunday. "We're going to give our kids an opportunity to play. We signed [outfielder] Juan Rivera to a three-year deal, and we think, given at-bats, he can be productive player.

"With Torii Hunter, Vladimir Guerrero, Gary Matthews Jr., Reggie Willits, our outfield is intact. It will not happen. We are not going to sign Manny Ramirez. End of story."

So Manny/Boras are screwed if Yanks sign Tex? I don't see Boras allowing that to happen.

Wow. Very shocked that the Angels backed out on Manny without giving it a shot. I mean, they don't have Tex and now they don't even have Kotchman...that offense could be in some trouble.

Not even the Yankees deserve Manny.

His price is sure to drop as the big market teams say "no thanks".

I can't wait until Manny is forced to take a deal for less money than what his club options with Boston would have paid him. You don't think at least a few teams are purposely stonewalling him here just a little bit to shove his antics back in he and Boras' face?

I actually think a few teams are - not all because any team would sign him for the right price, but there's a reason he's not signed yet and there's a lot of resentment around baseball for what this clown pulled.

I'm glad to see it happening to him at any rate and I hope to god he ends up with a 2 year 26 or 28 million dollar deal now. The economy wasn't completely in the tank before he started mucking around in Boston to get a forced exit; now he's at least a little nervous in my opinion about what's out there. The only team I see paying him what he wants is NY at this point.

I don't remember if I or someone else mentioned this yet, but wouldn't Washington have a whole bunch of money to throw around now that Tex isn't going there? Could be that a bad team wants to make a splash by grabbing Manny and they outbid themselves.

In any case, Boras has to be hoping Manny gets more than $40/2 otherwise Manny might murder him.
