Can Sheffler be a top 5 TE next year? (1 Viewer)

I think Cutler is going to be the cream of the crop when it comes to passing QB's in this recent draft year.

One of his fave targets also appears to be fellow rookie Sheffler.

Could Sheffler be a top 5 TE next year?

Thoughts?

top 10, maybe he and cutler are too young, but this is also the TE friendly offense that built shannon sharpe, and was it Desmond Clark(now of the bears?)..

I think he is top 5 in 2-3 years...maybe Gates, heap, winslow, shockey, heath miller, a NE TE... and others i am sure.. are all still inthe way

Too many talented, young TEs in the league now for Scheffler to crack the top 5. I'd guess somewhere in the 10-15 range.

Since Cutler took over, Sheffler has averaged 10.8 PPG in A PPR league. That level of production would rank him somewhere in or near the Top 5 over a full season. However, bear in mind that he's had only 9 receptions in the past 4 games and 3 went for TD. So he would need to get a lot more receptions, as it is unlikely that he would get 12 TD on the year.

Safe to assume as Cutler gets more settled in at the QB spot at the NFL level, those receptions may rise as Shanahan gives more freedom to his playcaller?

I don't regularly follow or get to watch the Broncos, but from the limited amount of what I have seen Sheffler seems to have been a safety valve/check down receiving option. As other WR and RB mature, I'm not sure if Sheffler will get more designed looks or if he could still rely on leftovers or not. It's really hard to draw conclusions from a month of football with a rookie QB and a lot of other inexperienced players all developing at the same time (while still in the hunt for a playoff spot). Long story short, it's too soon to tell.

The magical formula for top end TEs seems to be strong running game (usually with a strong feature back), plus a supporting cast of WRs, but no star.

Denver has Javon Walker and there are indication that the running game is weaker than in years past. Will the downward trend in the running game continue, or will the team return to its running dominance? Who will be the feature back for the Broncos next year?

Without answers to those questions, I would not anticipate a top-5 finish for any Denver TE.
