Can this oddball draft strategy work from pick 12 (2 Viewers)

I am in a multi thousand dollar league and i have two partners, we are all very experienced owners. We got unlucky and got pick 12. My question is about the oddball draft strategy. My partners feel that the running backs at our spot will be Murray, MJD, AP, Charles, Richardson. This is the proposed team ( Qb's get .5 points per completion )

1.12= Julio Jones

2.1= Jimmy Graham

3.12= Marshall/Jordy Nelson

4.1 =Peyton Manning/ Matt Ryan

5.12= Redman/Magahee

6.1 Redman/ Magahee/Donald Brown

Does anyone like the oddball draft strategy due to the uncertainty at rb?

I think if you have to start 2+ RBs you are exposing yourself to a lot of risk with that caliber of RB as your starters.

1.12 is a tough spot this year. The RBs at the 1/2 turn might not be worth it there, but it is a long wait until pick 36 to consider RB again. I think I would rather take a chance by waiting on TE than RB, there is a lot of value at TE after pick 60.

ETA: it is entirely possible that Donald Brown's ADP rises before your draft and he won't be available at #60, Luck looked good enough that that offense may be better than expected. Redman and McGahee as every week starters? Oof. You'll need to hit on a later RB, and that is a crapshoot.

Im not a fan to be honest. If DMAC or Murray is there, I would pair one with Julio. DMAC would be a kill shot. If he stays healthy all year, which I believe he finally will.. dear lord.. Also, I would target Steve Smith in the 3rd over Marshall and Jordy. Im scared about Marshall with CHI OL being so ####ty. Matt Ryan in the 4th??? I would hope for Vick.Biggest mistake I see imo though is Redman in the 6th. Dont jump on that boat bro. Especially with that much $ on the line. Hillis > Redman.Just my 2 cents

A lot of mocks I've done had Ryan going in the 6th. You might be able to grab a better RB at 4 and then take Ryan in the 5th.

Redman doesn't make it to the end of the 5th too often, so you may have to nark him off your list for that reason if no other. Currently going 5.03 in Standard, and 4.11 in PPR on FFCalculator. Mcgahee directly behind him too. The cards would have to fall very nicely for you to grab one or both.

Granted, they are only mock drafts - but he is lasting to the initial turn at a good rate. I would say close to 50%. But, one of Forte/DMC/CJ1K last more often than not. And, I'd rather role the dice on D. Murray than grab a WR who won't be much better than the WR you could get in the 3rd.

Fine to prognosticate and mock out situational drafting, so long as you keep yourself loose and have in mind you will completely abandon this strategy if the plan dictates. Calvin, Rodgers, Brees, or Forte could easily fall to 1.12. MJD might be there because of his "holdout." Make sure you don't get locked in.

Otherwise I think you should go RB earlier and sacrifice QB with this strategy. Not a believer in Redman or Brown, and McGahee is pedestrian.

6pt TDs and .5pts per completion, they'd have to be morons to let brees or rodgers fall that far.calvin, no chance in hell either.Forte, very good chance.

Is this PPR scoring? If not, you should strongly consider Richardson at 1.12. I assume you have Manning/Ryan projected at 4.1 due to the extra .5 points per completion scoring. I would try to grab Rivers a round later, if a decent RB or WR was available in round 4 instead.

Why no way in hell?Over 16 games in his rookie season, he would have projected out to 1200yds and 10tds.Another year older, we expect another year better. It's not impossible, by any means. I didnt say I guarantee he'd finish #2, but all things considered, he's my #2 ranked WR

I agree with you on Redman and Brown but you should rethink McGahee. Ran for 1200 yards against a stacked box and had tebow vulchering his TDs. Hes going to beast with teams having to respect the pass. You will see good sir.

As always, things depend on scoring systems.

With late picks this year, there are some simple steps to take:

1) If QB scoring is a big priority in your league (and trades are allowed): Rodgers, Brady, Brees at your 1/2 pick can't hurt. If you hit at RB, then you win a championship. If you miss, you can trade those guys for guys at the top of the draft at the RB position or for the RB that does hit (Try and take some "swing for the fences" guys as backup QB in this case)

2) WR or TE (if TE league). Having a top WR is not a bad idea, and if you have crazy TE scoring, having Graham is a major coup.

at 3/4 I like getting a RB even if you reach, and then whatever you havent gotten yet.

You go QB, TE to start, I would temper with WR, RB and that way you are balanced for rounds 5-11 of the draft. You take the best RB or WR on the board and "manage your way to a championship". If you have no RBs after round 4 you basically announce to everyone that you are going RB RB after this and the 4 picks ahead of you on the comeback are going to take RBs and let whatever WR or TE or QB they want slide to the even side of their draft order.

FLEXIBILITY IS KEY!!!!

I love the strategy. There are decent options at 5.12/6.1 for RB other than those mentioned. Shonn Greene, Jonathon Stewart, BJGE. A guy I really like...Peyton Hillis.....goes even later than that, and there is also Ridley. I can't get too excited about Redman, but I do like McGahee, especially with Hillman's issues.

I don't have a problem with this...but I don't think you want a strategy THIS set in stone. What if Mathews falls to 3.12? What if a RB you like falls there? Also - I don't like the players you're choosing, though I think the strategy can work. I want no part of Manning - the QB pick of Ryan I love, but if he's gone, I prefer Rivers and Romo - both way undervalued this year, IMO.Redman/McGahee - would rather have Donald Brown, Kevin Smith, Peyton Hillis, BJGE, Harvin/Maclin (flex?)...Isaiah Pead, Rashad Jennings, JaQuizz Rodgers later are all nice too if I'm building an advantage at other spots like you are trying to.
