Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (2 Viewers)

Our first year of DTV is almost up, so bill starts to creep up.  We got a letter in the mail a few months ago saying Sunday Ticket would eventually be auto-billed and to not worry about it.  Yeah, auto-billed at like $350 or some crap by the end of it.  So I live chatted with them and cancelled it.  Guy didn't fight me about it, but also didn't offer anything at all to maybe keep it.  So for now, I'm without it.  Thinking I should call and see what they can do...  but that bill.  It's starting to get unmanageable.

If you are out of contract, cancel, disconnect, a day later call the number everyone else has and get ST free and the rest of the deal.

I chatted Sat night and had them remove and credit first payment.  He did offer me something like $17/off per month.  I declined

called today to cancel...

Only thing they offered was $ 46 per month for 6 months for ST, and a $45 month credit for 12 months.

Basically $ 1.00/month for ST and then $ 45 off per month for 6 months.

not sold yet......

$200 GC

Choice $39 off/12 mos

$10 off auto bill pay

Free ST Max (need to cancel auto renew)

Free HBO, Starz, SHO, MAX 3 months (need to call & cancel before then)

$57/mo (1 HD receiver w/DVR) + tx for 12 mos contract

Got a confirmation number this time, so hopefully all will work as promised.
Just got the same deal, although I got 4 receivers included. Service was shut off this morning.

Can I ask what package are you going with, with Dish?...I'm looking at making the switch shortly if DTV can't come through with the right deal.
Sure.  I believe it is the Top 200 package.   They are offering free HBO for a year, free movie channels for 3 months,  free amazon echo, and a discount off of the Top 200 which I can't recall right now.  Just go to the website to see the offers to new customers.

Based on what people were saying in this thread, I was not optimistic. I first called and cancelled the auto renew of the ticket. Called in with specifics to another deal FIOS was offering and told them I liked the ST Max, but I didn't need it and was ok with Red Zone -- which I am even though I prefer ST --. They couldn't match the FIOS price, but gave me:

$10 off per month for 2 years

$50 off per month for 1 year

Free Sunday Ticket Max

This is not the best deal I have ever gotten, but I am happy with it. Are these the sorts of offers that people are cancelling over? Or are some not even getting the Free ST Max offer?

No Pac 12 network is the killer for me.  The past 3 years I have been steaming the games via my Ipad on Apple TV using my parents comcast account.  Reception is awful, constantly goes out, and can't record.  I can't take it any more.

Question.  Is the number that arrives on the boxes any different than the phone number listed here?  If so, why not just call the number after 48 hours?

I think this is the second post now regarding the offer that shows up on the boxes.  Is it that easy?  If this were the case, then why isn't everyone just waiting for the offer and then it sounds like you get the maximum deal?  I suppose the downside is that you have to be without tv for 7+ days, right?
The number on the box was 888-550-3357.

Don't know if it has something to do with the offers being in their system or what.  I do know the first time I called & reconnected, they offered me the same deal but in the end (after 5 hours of calls) would not honor it.  Just waiting it out worked better for me.  YMMV - depending on how long the wife & kids can do without TV, etc.

The $200 gift card is nice to get, I will say.

I did not get that offer today, not even close actually. I'm rolling the dice with the cancel and re-up....

only a partial on sunday ticket and like $40 off for a year.  I would have taken your deal also, unless it came with two year contract.

I meant I went through the whole deal with the dude on the phone.  The looking up deals and this and that trying to get you not to cancel.  I set the date up when we are gone next week.
Gotcha. Seems the best deals that most of us are getting involves actually cancelling then waiting a few days.

Not sure if this has been covered but thought I would mention it.

Even though your promised something (lower bill, free NFL ST Max, etc), it's not necessarily that easy.

I went through the whole cancel date set up and was saved by a rep who called and offered to lower my bill $48.00 and free NFL ST Max (this was several weeks ago)..  Checked my bill today and I was charged the first installment of NFL ST Max for my billing cycle that ended on the 11th.  Every rep I spoke to couldn't find anything in the notes about the free NFL ST Max and could do nothing for me.  During my conversation I found out the save rep removed my protection plan ($7.99 mo) and counted it towards my savings without telling me.  Bottom line, I was lied too and my bill was manipulated to get me to stay with DTV.

Took me two hours and a manager in the retention dept. to charge me $99.00 for NFL ST Max and then credit me the amount to get my free NFL ST Max.  After hanging up I check my bill and it's all screwed up with phantom charges for NFL ST, blah blah blah.  Another phone call with a promise to fix it.

I'm done with the shenanigans of DTV and their shady service.  I will finish my contract and gladly go to Xfinity where I will pay more but the games of discounts will be gone.  I used to be with Xfinity and never had these sort of headaches.

They called me back (a few times actually yesterday, I was not answering thinking it was telemarketer) . I caved and took they deal above minus the $10 thing.  I feel a little bad about not going for the GC but it saved me some hassle anyways.

50 bucks off a month

all the premiums free for 4 months

Sunday ticket max

Background - only been a customer 1 year, so still have another year on contract.

I called the standard customer service number and asked to cancel.  I was offered 40$ off for a year, free upgrade to Sunday Ticket MAX (still will pay for basic Sunday Ticket), and all the movie channels free for 3 months.  I took the deal so I didn't have to go through the process of actually cancelling.  They also offered me free playboy...but I declined due to the wife and kids...may regret that one lol.

You didn't ask for the retention department?  It's a standard move.

How do you reset your email? My login is no longer working and I need it to claim gift card.

Funny, but my auto-pay hasn't ever had a problem not working. Seems selective.

You'll have to call or do the chat thing. They can reset it for you to a temporary one and put in a request to have you old one unlocked. They were supposed to notify me I think when the old one was unlocked but they never did. I was able to login though a couple days later and set it back to my old one. Happening alot to disconnected customers.

The wife goes out of town today for work, so I set the cancellation date for today.  Unplugged the cable from my box last night.   Get an email at 4 am today saying my service has been disconnected.  I turn on the tv to see a "Problem communicating with dish" error.  I go to my List and I see that I still have all my DVR recordings, yeah!  Am getting ready to go to work so I don't know if they are going to call today to hopefully offer me a deal, so I thought I should have the cable plugged back into the box since I don't know if they reconnect my service if I had unhooked it and I'm at work.  Plug it back in.... and I still have tv!  What gives?  Does that mean they haven't disconnected me?  Or will it go out sometime today even though the email came at 4 am?

My recommendation: Unplug it & leave it unplugged & wait a few days.  Then call & IF you have a confirmation number hook it back up.  I also recommend recording whatever call you have & be very clear about what the offer is.  This year it seems that getting the offer is no problem.  Getting them to follow through can be a disaster if you rush it (it was for me for sure).  Even after having a confirmation number, I hooked up the box the next day & had to get on the phone because the receiver was not activated (30 minutes of tech support).  Also had to spend about 40 minutes getting set up again online (did this right after I signed up again).  Many more steps this year.  I also went to check on directv/redeem to claim gift card & I wasn't listed.  They said you have 90 days, so I'll see if they mail me anything before calling again.

At this rate, I might as well just work my actual job & pay full price!

We have had so many problems with DTV that last night, when my wife called, they informed us that we are getting out own personal caseworker and a special PIN number we can enter to get direct service w/o waiting...joy!!!

I'm having my roof reshingled today and when they took the DTV dish off, they noticed the wood under it was rotting. The rot spot is under the location it was attacked to the roof and my contractor thinks that it is from run off or dripping off the dish. IDK, we've had DTV for about a year, and the roof is only 14 years old and strange it would rot right there. Just be careful and check the area around your dish for any roof issues.

I called today.  It's not like the good old days.  Same deals as above.  It's also a lot more difficult to get someone in the US than it was before AT&T acquired direct TV.  The dude in India was terrible but the guy in El Salvador was fairly helpful.

*sigh* After reading all of the above, I am really not looking forward to this process. Called a couple of days ago to set up cancellation for next week. The lady who took my cancellation offered  me a minimal $ discount and was totally uninterested in giving me anything else.

I called CenturyLink a couple of weeks ago to renegotiate my internet price. That guy said he could sign we up to DirecTV as a bundle, give me discounted bill, free ST Max, add two extra receivers for free, etc. But it's a two-year contract. I may just go with that instead of dealing with this nonsense again.

Nm. Got it through chat. Discounts come off on 21 and u-verse ends on 27. Looks like I'm ending on 21. Going to get internet completely cut off and going back to cable. Their internet blows

Wow, I can't believe how easy that was.

I cancelled around 6pm yesterday, and just got off the phone with them. Including the 5 minutes or so it took them to answer, the entire call took 12 minutes.

Choice package - 1 TV

Free Sunday Ticket Max

6 Months free HBO

$200 visa gift card

$56/ month plus tax

Nice to hear RJS113, I just set up the cancel for midnight tonight as my last discounts went off yesterday. You said you just got off the phone with them, did they call you or did you call them and if so, what number did you call?

When you called to cancel, did you have them cut it immediately or set up a time? When you told them to cancel did you get any offers then? I had a Loyalty Specialist offer me $55 off my bill for 12 months. I asked about ST Max, Gift Card and movie stations. Pushed a little harder, he went back to his manager and said ST only and if wanted Max it would be additional $99. Politely declined and set it up for tonight at midnight. Waiting to do the next step.

So just want to know if you called them or they called you, or did you get an email with a number to call?  Also, was your service actually disconnected? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Offered me 45 off yesterday and gave me hbo for 6 months.

told them I'd think about it but likely call back today and cancel as I have better offers from uverse and Comcast.

just have been getting my son ready for Boy Scout camp for the eclipse.

If he gives me that same 45 and ST max I'd be just fine with that.

I had them cancel it immediately, but it didn't end up getting cancelled until the middle of the night (it was still on when I went to bed).  When I cancelled, I was asked if I would be interested in keeping DTV for a lower price.  I said, "It would depend on the price, but I'm in a rush, so I don't have time to go back and forth on different offers.  So make me your absolute best offer, and I'll give you a yes or no".  He offered me $40 off per month, with no mention of free HBO, Sunday Ticket, or a gift card.  I declined, and had him proceed with the cancellation.  They sent me a confirmation email that it was cancelled at 5am this morning.

This morning I called 866-284-2816.  This is how the conversation went:

Me:  Hello.  I just received a voicemail saying to call this number.  Something about an exclusive offer.

DTV:  Someone must have called you to let you know what offers are available for you.  Would you like to hear them?

Me:  Sure, why not?

DTV:  I see you had one receiver, and the Choice package.  I can give you the same Choice Package for $65 per month, with free Sunday Ticket Max.

Me:  Does that include HBO?

DTV:  I can probably give you free HBO, let me go check.

Me:  Can you also see if you can give me Choice for $50 per month instead of $65?

DTV:  Sure.  (Puts me on hold for a minute or two).  Ok, so I'm able to give you 6 months of HBO for free, and the Choice package for $56 per month.

Me:  A friend of mine said something about a gift card.  Is that a promotion you're still doing?

DTV:  The $200 Visa gift card?  Yeah, I can give you that too.

Me:  So to confirm, it's $56 per month (plus tax) for the Choice package, free Sunday Ticket Max, free HBO for 6 months, and a $200 Visa gift card.

She said yes, and I accepted.  Then she just read over the terms and conditions and told me where to go to claim the gift card.

Awesome...thanks for the reply. I'll be using the same script tomorrow a.m.

Well...we have been researching cutting the cable or switching...will see what they offer.

After turning down the guy's $45 offer from yesterday, I stated I wanted to cancel.

No new offers were given, she just set up cancellation which, as Im still on the phone my daughter claims the TV is acting strange.  She may have just cut it off right there.

That, I was not expecting since I first stated I wanted to set up a date to have service until I could get service installed from another provider.

They sure as hell better be calling back with an offer. Or its netflix all weekend for me until they do or until I can get another company here to set up service.

Has anyone thought to request an immediate email listing the discounts/incentives?  I'm going to request that but not sure if they'll comply.  Enough people getting screwed I want to take every step to counter that.  Also, I need to make sure to have no cocktails before I make that call. :lmao:

I'm under contract til mid September.

Called the other day as I needed them to remove the ST auto renewal. 1st rep said they were with NFL dept and only offer they had was $17/mo off ST. Transferred me and I was surprised to be offered $55/mo off package and $17/mo off ST. They did want 1 year contract extension.

Didn't take it as I wondered if I could get a better ST in future when it isn't on my account.

Sounds like they've changed their fees to break out of contract. Used to be $20/mo, now the monthly amount is 1/2 of whatever discount you're getting.

Is standalone redzone really not a DTV option? I was told not, but I seem to think others have gotten it.

I called and asked about Red Zone by itself...I was told it isn't an option

Hour and a half on the phone getting reactivated (started in chat...they gave me the 866-284-2816 to figure out why I was disconnected immediately rather than at the date I talked about ).  Lady began first offering things as she was going to get me hooked back up.

  • $50 off per month for 12 months, same Choice Package.
  • HBO, Cinemax, Showtime free for 6 months
  • Free protection plan thing...wasn't even considering this but she threw it on there and thats good as I need someone to come out and adjust my dish and we need our genie replaced as the DVR has been wonky lately.
  • Sports package or regional sports...whichever thing that was...free for 12 months
Then it got strange...she had ST Max for free on there as well...but when she put it all in...and quoted me a price...it jumped adding my equipment back in.  I said that is nuts.as she is putting me right back near what my bill already was.  Trying to give me Max then for the full price and I said no.  She finally acted as if she could give me all that is above...not charge the equipment fees, but take ST Max off for now (and said to call back in 2 weeks and I should get it back for free).  I balked for a bit...but tired of the games and being disconnected...I agreed to the terms which would put my bill at something like $29.  Really cheap and if I didn't get Max...Id sign up for Game Pass online anyway.

Getting it all set up...I had to call back because HBO wasn't on my package.  Got that added in.  Then reviewing my channels...I noticed a few were not working.  (Namely, IFC, NBCSN, and Nicktoons for my kids).  That won't work for me.  They had changed me to the Select package...despite me being clear that I didn't want to lose channels.

Now they are trying to make it $66/month for my bill...with still no ST Max...almost 30 more than I was told.  Utterly ridiculous over 3 days of phone calls right now.

And not one offer for a gift card yet.

Typing this as Im on hold again.  Im close to saying I don't care what you offer...Im done.  To sit on the phone for almost an hour Friday.  Another 45 minutes yesterday where they screwed up and cut my service despite me setting a date 3 weeks out.  And now its been at least 2 hours total on multiple calls and chats today trying to work this out.

Ahh...ST Max added free. (first tried to discount it...then cut off one payment...then she threw it in when I bundled internet and phone with ATT...which I was planning on doing anyway.

This whole ATT/Directv together thing is so strange.  Some of the people can't access the ATT stuff...and some can so freaking weird.
