Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (6 Viewers)

Cancelled last week, no email, no call, called 877 line

Details:

24 mth contract b/c of equipment upgrades means I might be paying through the nose next year, but I held off the equipment upgrade for many years.

  • 39.99 Ultimate for 12 mths
  • 13.99 sports pack
  • 4.99 HD pack (love me Palladia)
  • Free ST Max
  • Added 5 more receivers for no acquisition (4 genie-related, 1 HD/DVR); brings the system up to 13 total receivers- I pay $6 for each add'l per mth during the season
  • Install fees waived
On top of that:

  • Another $10 off per month for contract
  • $5 off for 3 months
Directv has followed through on none of this.

I have been fully charged at MSRP as if the calls never happened and they are claiming I never called.

BEWARE!

:jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:
Despite a good amount of documentation that I have, they insist that they do not have a record of the agreement.

They tried to talk me down into paying for NFL ST and they'd resolve the rest today with a credit.

So they are re-negging on these deals folks. And then once you're baited they try to take more money out of your pocket.

If you havent been hit yet, just wait.
Did you receive any bills that were correct or was your first bill the full price incorrect one?

Many of us have already received multiple bills that are correct.

I just called to make sure the Pay Channels would be removed since the 3 month free preview was up and I didn't want to get charged. Before I hung up I thought what the hell, why not ask and see if there are any other promotions I can get. Ended up getting a 12 month $10 credit, a 6 month $5 credit, Showtime free for 6 months that will drop off without me doing anything, and HBO half off for 12 months that the credit will cover.

Directv for me = :pickle:
holy crap! And that was on top of the script deal?

Fantastic! Wish I had seen this before I called to remove the movie channels. Well done!

So called DirecTV today, used the traditional script although went with the "Smuggler's Gambit" strategy, which while risky pays off if you can get it done.

Called 1-800-DIRECTV line, went straight to Cancellation. Stated that I wanted to cancel to get the Red Zone Channel elsewhere. They confirmed that I only wanted the RZC and not the full Sunday Ticket which I confirmed. They came back with $60 per month in credits for 6 months and then $50 per month in credits for the next 6 months with the Red Zone Channel for free. Just had to lock in a 12 month contract. So my bill goes from $165 per month to an average of $110 per month over the next year while getting the RZC for free.

Was very nice on the phone, key is making the rep feel like they are convincing you of getting a great deal so they feel good about the transaction where they really feel like they saved the company a customer.

Took about 20 minutes in total, with most of the time waiting on hold to confirm the 12 month contract extension. Super easy.

You left a lot on the table in comparison to what the new script has gotten others in this thread.

i am truly devastated that I am getting paid $700 to watch the RZC.

I called them today, been a subscriber for 8 years and have negotiated deals in the past (though never as good as the script rewards noted in the thread). Anyhow, lost the last of my 12 month previous discounts last week so figured it was time to call back and renegotiate. They offered me $3/month and Showtime for 3 months. Just had $40 in discounts drop off plus ST last year so it was a slap in the face offer. Cancelled, will wait to see if I get the email and will follow script. Will update back.

I am the former whipping boy. Yeah, they said they had no record of what I got and basically called me a red-headed step-child liar, among other mistreatments.

That drove me to truly go through with my disconnect date. It dropped at midnight on the disconnect date. I called around 8am the next day and got all the goodies including the $200 VISA gift card with a 10 minute call. Service was back on completely within 30 minutes (some stuff took awhile to reload)

My next bill was only around $25 but my next bill looked like it didn't give me the discounts. I called and they stepped me through and explained. Averaging that higher amount out with the $25 from the prior month put me at the agreed amount of $62/mo.

Called and signed up for the first time. Will be nice to finally be able to watch my home team every week at home for the first time in 14 years.

How well does the PS4/Xbox One app work for streaming? Got rid of DTV but when I plugged in my address it said I was good for Ticket only console services. Is it a smooth experience on console?

First time I've ever threatened to cancel that they didn't offer free or hugely discounted ticket. I went ahead with the cancellation and set it for 2 weeks out. Hopefully they call me and offer a deal. :oldunsure:

Even if they don't, I cancelled and got the entire deal before 9am the next morning. Didn't lose anything off the dvr.

I don't think they do it that way anymore. Gotta set a cancel date

I called in Monday and set it for Friday and they blew my phone up the same day. Not sure if it matters but it doesn't seem like you have to give them a couple weeks to contact you. Don't know

My contract ends on September 1.

Called and got normal customer service. Got $10 off for 12 months, $7 off HBO for 6 months. Said thanks, I'll take it but I still want customer retention.

Get customer retention, tell guy I want to know what promotions are available and that Xfinity is courting me pretty aggressively. Also mention that I want ST Max for free. He tells me he has nothing to offer me and that I should call after September 1 when I will have more leverage.

Hang up and immediately call back, telling customer service that I got cut off from retention. She sends me back to another guy. We talk football for 5 minutes. He tries to get me the ticket for free. Can't do it. Said call back on September 1 and it shouldn't be a problem. Also gives me another $10 off for 12 months. Also has a free hardware upgrade, which I declined cause I'm fine with what I got.

So got $282 in discounts without having to extend my contract. Will keep after the ST Max and hopefully more.
Followed up today. In addition to what I got just last month, I got $30 off for 12 months and $10 off for 6 months. That's a total of $702 in discounts (no free ST-Max though). No contract extension either.

I'll take it.

About to find out.. Kept getting the run around that they couldn't add credits to my account until next month as they were already there..

I asked "So I have to pay the $105 next month, then call in to get credits?" and she said yes.. and then offered the Regular Sunday ticket if I agreed to a 1 year contract..

I said no.. Wasn't going to take the chance that I'd agree to a 1 year contract and then not get the credits next month.

Called back a day later.. Got them to offer ST Max for free, and upgraded receivers for a one year contract, but again was told the best she could do is add credits so next month's bill would be $95/month instead of $105/month..

My current bill is $65, but I lose $30 of those credits on the next bill cycle.

Told her, well, if the best you can offer is $95/month, with no guarantee that I'll get the $30 in credits, then I guess I'll need to set a cancel date for 9/12 and go with Dish..

Now we wait.. :oldunsure:

No calls yet. :(
I didn't receive any calls or emails either so I called back and was told the representative never set up the cancelation date. I had them set it and immediately called back and was offered a deal with free sunday ticket max, $43 off for 12 months, and all movie channels free for 3 months

I called the other day and said I wanted to cancel and go with Dish because they'd bundle with my Frontier DSL and phone service..

I had Primestar in 1996 and was with them when DirecTV bought the company.. been with Direct since then..

She ended up giving me $30 off per month for 12 months, showtime, cinemax and HBO free for 3-months (i have to call and cancel) and finally, Sunday TIcket for free..

I'm sure I could have gotten more by setting up a cancel date and playing the game, but this was good enough for the effort I put forth.. She also said to let people know

that DirecTV isn't just focused on new customers but wants to make sure people know they are interested in keeping their current customers. And when this deal I have now

is over, just to call back and they'd give me another deal.

No worries for me on whether it was entered or not:

My Account - Your account is scheduled for disconnection. To reactivate service, please call Customer Service at 1-800-531-5000.
Set 9/12 as the cancel date.. Figure I'll wait until Thursday of this week and if nothing by then call back in with the script and see what they have.

Truth is, as much as switching and learning new channel numbers is a PITA, the deal from DISH right now.. Redzone( the only channel I really watched last year any ways), Newer receivers( Can only record 2 shows right now with DirectTV and have to watch one of them), $200 Debit Card and locked in price for 2 years.. is such a good deal that if DirectTV doesn't come through :bye: and we will start the process all over again in two years.

Just called up and landed a super chipper young woman on the other end.

$50 off per month for 12mo
$60 one time credit

Sunday Ticket Max Free of Charge

Total of $660 in savings plus free Sunday Ticket Max :banned:

Didn't have to go through the actual setup of cancellation after asking for it. She asked what I was being offered, told her we were looking to save about 60 bucks a month. She worked her voodoo and said ticket was the best she could do. I said I'm a fantasy football guy and love RZ... she said she could throw that in and just issue me a credit for it. It has already hit the account.

Done deal

Tried a new tactic this year.

I'm 41 years old, 3 kids, 2 businesses, and no more energy to cancel and play the game. Too tired :)

Told the guy, Tyler, I wanted the Ticket and see what he could do. I had just been charged and auto-paid one month of ST Max @ $60.

Been a customer since 2003. No contract in place.

He came back checking my current programming to see if i was happy. I was.

He said how about $20 off for 12 months? OK.

He said he could offer Free ST and credit back the ST Max $60. I said no I want ST Max. He said he could do ST Max for an additional $17 a month for 6 months or apply my first payment plus $42 one time. I said OK.

So, I got:

ST Max for $102

$20 off for six months

No contract.

I am happy with the deal and with Directv for again making me super excited for the NFL season.

Here was what was posted a few times:

Call 1-800-531-5000

Get to retentions department

Confirm you are in retentions department

Don't bother with their offers and simply request a cancellation 2 weeks out

Confirm cancellation date

Wait to receive "We want you back", "Let us make it right", "blah blah" call or email with special 877-250-4624 number and NEWDEAL1 or NEWDEAL2 code

If you receive that email, great. Go ahead and call in as soon as you receive it.

If you DO NOT receive the email in a few days, call the 877-250-4624 number anyway and tell them you received the email

You may get turned down for "not being in their system" yet

If that is the case, ask if they can get you added to the system

No matter what they say, call back in 48 hours or so and try again

You may still have to haggle with them a bit to get everything listed in this thread ($200 GC, 12 month discounts on package, free 2015 Sunday Ticket Max, 3 months of premium movie channels, all requiring a 12 month commitment (24 months if you elect to receive new equipment)), but they also may just lay it all out there for you from the start

If all else fails, you can always call the 1-800-531-5000 number back before the date you set and have the cancellation removed and try the whole process again later.

Near the end of this "script" now..

Got Sunday Ticket Max for free..

Free Movie channels for 3 months..

Just had to agree to 1 year contract.. Good to go for another year.. Until I have to go through the same crap again.

 I still think the email way would have worked if the credits had expired.. The first lady tried to renew the credits but told me the system wouldn't allow her.. She was able to get a new $10 credit added on and ST Max for free.. but required a one year with no guarantee the "old" credits could get renewed.

Had I waited the extra 2 weeks I do believe it would have only taken one call and no threat to cancel..

 we shall see next year as I'll wait until the credits are done before going into the Circus ring again.

There is no circus ring. Just call, cancel and prosper.

The "Circus" part is having to go through a Cancel to get the deals.. Renewing customers, that are out of contract, shouldn't have to go through a Circus to get these deals..

In theory I would have only needed to make one call.. Send email, get code, call, get deals.. I just messed up starting the process too soon.

The "Script" way works, but takes listening to the hold music and the :hophead: 's on the other side twice.. The less time I have to be on the phone the better..

If you can't tell by now I Hate the phone.. I only talk to 3 people on the phone now days.. My Wife( very rarely, usually just text), my Dad and my Cousin.. Even the last two, we communicate through emails 90% of time.. ...

Basically my friends and family know.. Don't call me cause I sure the hell won't call you if I have a choice..

Play chicken with them and you win, even if you have a year left on your contract like me. New deal, no penalties.

I didn't receive any calls or emails either so I called back and was told the representative never set up the cancelation date. I had them set it and immediately called back and was offered a deal with free sunday ticket max, $43 off for 12 months, and all movie channels free for 3 months
No worries for me on whether it was entered or not:
My Account - Your account is scheduled for disconnection. To reactivate service, please call Customer Service at 1-800-531-5000.
Set 9/12 as the cancel date.. Figure I'll wait until Thursday of this week and if nothing by then call back in with the script and see what they have.Truth is, as much as switching and learning new channel numbers is a PITA, the deal from DISH right now..
Ok.. got the email with the "greatdeal" code .. will call tomorrow to see what they offer..
Stupid A## games.. Oh well gotta do what you gotta do.Got the Bill Back down to $65/month... was going up to $105 next month so $40/month savings for 12 months

Was Told to call back on 10/1 as we may be eligible for other discounts at that time..

Got Sunday Ticket Max for free..

Free Movie channels for 3 months..

Just had to agree to 1 year contract.. Good to go for another year.. Until I have to go through the same crap again.
Sounds identical to what I got. Nice

There is no circus ring. Just call, cancel and prosper.
The "Circus" part is having to go through a Cancel to get the deals.. Renewing customers, that are out of contract, shouldn't have to go through a Circus to get these deals..In theory I would have only needed to make one call..

They're maximizing profits. There's as good as anyone out there at it. When it comes down to it, they'll do what it takes to keep their current customers but they're not always going to give you what you ask for unless you leave them no other choice. Can't fault them for that. They're in the money making business but someone up top sees the whole picture, unlike many of the other moronic companies out there. I have to respect them for that.

You mean the other companies that offer their product for a fair price and provide proper customer service in order to attract customers? When it stops being a monopoly they will have to behave differently.

They are starting to compete with us cord cutters by offering a streaming option (no dish required) for NFL Ticket. The catch is they only give it to you if your address cannot use a dish, like an apartment building address. You might want to use that info in future negotiation tactics, because, they aren't being fair by treating all their customers the same.

I just pointed my IP address to Turkey where NFL.com will give me Sunday Ticket, NFL Redzone, NFL Network and rewind for $129. Screw Direct TV.

Direct TV pays $1.5 Billion dollars to the NFL every year for exclusive rights in the US. Please stop supporting this monopoly so affordable streaming options become available to regular people.

I thought it was interesting when i called to set up new service i asked what my total would be a month in the 2nd year and she point blank told me i wouldn't pay that amount and i would have credits sent to me to use.

DirecTV has provided many of us with by far the most affordable package one could ever hope to get this year. I see no reason to abandon them at this point when they are offering more, for less than pretty much any one else out there.

I put in the "cancellation" date for 9/2 and actually forgot to call in and work the deals, and they cut me off yesterday. Called in and they said they needed 24 hours for the system to refresh before they could tell me the offers. Today their out of the gate offer:

1. $50 a month in credits

2. HBO/Showtime/Cinemax free for 3 months; removed auto-renew

3. SundayTicket Max free for 2015

4. $200 Visa gift card

Of course, my wife complicated it b/c she wanted the Genie and 2 mini-genies that came at the cost of a 24 month commitment, which I don't love. The rep said that I'll be called about month 11 or so to discuss what kind of new credits I'm eligible for...I'm skeptical, but we'll see.

Been dealing with DTV for 12 years, and I don't love the hoops you have to jump through. But overall I'm happy with the service and deals. Service reactivated now, and the Genies get installed Monday

I'm just guessing here, but I bet you are the kind of guy that people love to hang around at a party.
