Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (4 Viewers)

Had some free time tonight, decided to call and see what I can get for discounts, or even threaten to cancel.  I live in BFE so my options really are limited.  But I usually am fairly successful in getting some kind of deal.

They offered me $47 for 12 months (same as I am getting.now)

Free Sunday Ticket Max for 1 year renewal.  Gotten it free five years straight now, no questions asked.

I took it.  Like I said, my options are limited.  Its either this or Dish or streaming, and it doesn't sound like streaming is quite there yet to rely on it solely.

Basically getting the same thing I have (Ultimate Package) for $41 for the year (regularly $92).  The ST was a throw in because I was ready to just cancel it this year.

This buys me some time to see if streaming options get better over the next 12 months.

Since my commitment is up at the end of this month, actually next week, I told them that I had received an email about staying with them to call this number.  Called the 855 number posted previously.  She said she didn't see anything about retention in my file, but to keep me she could offer me the exact same package I have at the same price and roll ST in free if I wanted to keep that as well if I committed to another year.  I also get a $10 discount for combining my ATT wireless.

I didn't mention anything else, like the Visa card and such.  Figured if I can stay with what I have for another year, I'm good.  Wife and daughter have their shows they like, so we wont be disrupting that. Happy wife, Happy life.

We will continue to use the Firestick for added entertainment as well.  I really like the Titanium build.  Wife found one of her series that is very hard to find on there, so I got some added buy in for that.  Id really like to upgrade to a Fire TV for faster response and capacity. 

 
my new bill came in about $7 cheaper per month than what the CR told me it would.  It seems correct though from what I can read through.

that was pretty much what mine was last year as well.   Looks like you have 3 more months to go before you need to dance.

Jealous, I didn't get that offer and I've been getting it 3-4 years in a row.  They sent me boxes back to mail back my equipment.  I called and told them I got them and threw them out as I'm still shopping my options.  Bill will be around $129.00 a month next month.  All they offered was a 2 year commitment  $20 off for 24 and  $10 of 12  so I'd be $100 for a year, and then $110 next year.  I didn't take it.

I have the Choice Extra package, Whole house DVR and 2 other tvs.

I guess it took AT&T a year to start doing things their way.  Interested to see how this affects them longterm.  If it backfires on them,  I'm sure they'll go back to offering good deals again.

So after reading  this thread.  I decided it's time for me to make the call I took a look at my bill and on May 12 I have a charge of zero dollars for Sunday Ticket. 

I wonder if im getting it for free. Anyone else see that ?

Had it free last year not in contract.

My entire premise of calling was to verify that I would be getting Sunday Ticket for free again this year.  He said I would be getting charged the $44.99 for Sunday Ticket if I elected to activate it, but he was willing to give me a $40 monthly credit for 12 months ($480 total) without extending my contract, so it's like I'm getting Sunday Ticket for free plus some extra.  

I just checked my account and I'm already seeing a $40 credit, since I was paid up in full when I called.  So at this point, I don't even have Sunday Ticket activated and I'm getting $40 off every month....so what I meant was, I don't think the $40 monthly credit was actually tied to Sunday Ticket (i.e. if I don't actually purchase the Sunday Ticket, I'll still get the $40).

When it gets closer to the season, I'll see what I can do to get Sunday ticket for free on top of this.

Go to My Account>My Programming>View My Programming then scroll down to Sunday Ticket....see if it says "Activate Now" or whether you already have it

 
Also, FWIW...I was somehow paying $4.99 for this (there's no way in hell I ever ordered this)

Yea, you shouldn't have to, it will just start up on its own and you will see the charge, and then if you are getting it free, see the charge backed out.  That's how it's showed for me over the years.

I am looking to upgrade my phone and told them I might leave

so they knocked off $100 the total of the phone and waived activation fee $15

alright so before I could finalize that deal last week, the browser crashed. no biggie. I used this to my advantage :thumbup:

contacted them again today through webchat, asked for retention and said where's my phone? :lmao:

they said you were disconnected and the order was not processed :coffee:

 I complained that I should have been contacted if that were the case and told them I was already considering leaving them now add on terrible customer support :hifive:

she apologizes etc etc. offers same deal I said no way you better up the offer. get two crappy offers ($25 credit, $50 credit) then I finally get a decent offer

I just called.  She said the charge covers me from May 2016 through April 2017 and as such I will be receiving Sunday Ticket free again this year.

Let me know if they tell you the same thing when you call. Specifically point them to the Activity Window, as that helped her understand what was going on.

I am going to call again in a few days and see if I get the same response.  Information from one rep to the next is not always consistent.

I wish I knew why I was getting it.  I could have sworn last year was a one year deal and this year when I did my call, they never mentioned it.

I recommend calling yourself.  I have to say she seemed fairly confident but that does not always mean much.

I got right through and only took about 2 minutes total time.  If you find out any information, please let us know in thread.

I called the 855-407-3110 number, not realizing it was the retention number, and a manager told me that he didn't show me having the Sunday Ticket on my account.

call the regular number, 1-800-531-5000 and ask for billing and then point them to your online activity window which shows the charge.  That is how I got the rep to understand what I was asking.  Once she saw that it seemed to make a difference.

It would not shock me if she was wrong though but that charge is on there for some reason.

Did the manager say the charge showing up was a mistake in their billing activity list?

It is so strange how much different information and offers you get from rep to rep.

Yea, weird, I've had it for a number of years, never paid, and it always shows up like I showed above.  Just a line item, with no charge for that particular billing period.
