Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (4 Viewers)

I called back to change my disconnect from Friday to tomorrow, spoke to this woman, she starts throwing the house at me and we got disconnected. I was calling from a conference line at my office and as she is offering ST Max, the call goes silent :hot:  Nobody there. I say HELLO HELLO HELLO for like 2 minutes, nothing, then race to my desk as my phone is ringing, it is her :excited:

Bottom line, free ST Max, $45 off a month for a year. 12 month commitment, no problem!
Exact deal I got. congrats!

Have ATT wireless (2 lines), DSL (hate TW)  & DTV (2 DVR). Will be calling soon.  Employer pays both lines of wireless, so I could care less, but it's leverage to work DTV down and maybe internets speed up.

Starting to like the sound of this.  Wish they offered Internet in my neighborhood.  I'd switch phone,  Internet,  and TV over.

Anyone ever do the movers deal?  I'm curious what they offer, costs etc  versus just signing up under the wife.
They Just moved mine for free last week and gave me $60 off a month without me even asking for anything. The free moving depends on how long you've been with them.

They tried to charge me $160 for my move.  That was not in the deal.  I got the news in an email which was also bs.  They have refunded it but I was on the phone way too long for that.  So much of dealing with them depends on the people you get on the phone.  And more importantly, the folks in the background coaching those people.  I won't go into the other dilemmas but trust me there were many.  Total nightmare.  The only thing good I can say is they fixed it all but it was hell and we'll see for sure when the bill comes.

And yes, things are negotiable.  I had to start a new 2 year contract but I received the Genie box for "free" (even though I was supposed to have received it initially).  I got a $50 credit for my troubles and they upped my internet speed from 6 mbps to 12.  Yippee.

Cliff notes on the number to call and this years spiel/angle?
I just picked up, called, threatened to cancel bc of a better deal from Time Warner Cable. Offered $50 a month, but no ST - I declined and scheduled a Friday cancel. Called back today and said I wanted to move my cancel date to tomorrow. Told them I was offered the Red Zone Channel for free as part of my new package at a huge discounted rate.

10 minutes later my bill is $45 off a month and free ST Max.

Good luck!

Did you call the regular toll free number, or retention (aka Candyland), or what?

The tech guy I had was good and he sort of talked me into getting that * extra special * customer service for another 7 bucks a month.  You can cancel it in two months which I likely will.  He told me you receive much more qualified people on the phone and things get done.  He went on to say I'd talk to Americans, lol, and that my account would have some type of priority going forward, which would also help with deals or negotiating.

Due to my many problems and my anticipation that those won't be solved completely just yet, especially billing, I signed up for it.  At worst it costs me 15 bucks and I'll be more likely to iron out any remaining issues, as well as getting some upgrades.

Anybody tried this service?

Yes - I have the extra service plan for $7/mo.  - can't say as I always get an American on the phone though.  It has helped in some instances a while back.  I'm not a service plan guy, but I have stuck with it.  They stick you hard if you really need a service guy to your house without it.

Placed my initial call just now. My contract (2 year) isn't up until 8/8 but wanted to get a feel for what is being offered. Called the normal DirectTV number (800-531-5000) and when the recording asks for reason for call I said cancel. That got me connected to what I assume is the retention department. When asked why, told them I have internet through Time Warner Cable and they were offering good deal on TV and throwing in RedZone. Best they offered was $30 off for 12 months. I'm currently at $90 (been creeping up a little at a time over the past 3-4 months) but have credits that will run out in the next couple of months that will increase it an additional $38.

They said I would have a small cancellation fee if canceled right now. I said I'd wait and asked if I could set up a cancel date. Said they can't do it out that far but to call back closer to that time and maybe will have better discounts to offer.

Will be calling back at a later date.

Out of interest, has anyone ever accepted a deal and then called back in a few months later to see if there were any new promotions running?  I was wondering if accepting a deal locks you out of any new promotions until your current one runs out.

It seems like there are so many versions of discounts out there.

I got the ST email I saw mentioned earlier.  Advice needed - do I cancel it before I try and renew ...or wait.  Pretty sure my main discount time runs up in early August.

Just made the call

Was offered $50 off for 1 year with a 1 year contract.  Best I could get for ST Max was $54 off brining it to $305 for the season.

My bill now is $129 so the $50 off for a year would be nice. I decided to wait and think about it as I don't want to give up being out of contract yet in case I can get a better ST deal. She gave me a pin number that I can call back and get this deal anytime in the next 7 days.

i pushed for it, but no.  i really did not want to do the multiple calls and playing with the disconnect again this year.  i will just take the $600 and decide whether or not i want the ST this year (have had it since 96).
I weighed the $50 a month, but ultimately declined... I knew I would end paying for the ST in the end, so really, the $50 would only equal $25.

I ended up at $45 with the ST, couldn't be happier, just a little patience.

You got $45 off per month for a year free ST Max? New contract?

Yes, $45 per month, plus free ST Max. 12 month contract, which is fine, I get to negotiate again summer 2017.

BroncoFreak2k3 said he got the same deal too... It sounds like that is the best you're going to do, unless you don't want the ST, then just take the $50 a month.

I had to make two separate calls to get my deal, don't know about BroncoFreak. AvoidingInjuries got the ticket for $90.

Sounds like they have a bunch of different promotions.

I'd take that deal. I was also offered $40 off for a year not contract extension. Then I could call back later and try for ST. I didn't do that either yet. I just don't want to commit to anything unless it has free ST included.

I'm going to keep fighting for the deal you got. Did you setup a cancelation date?

Just call back until you get what you want. There is no uniformity to their offers. Each rep has different things they can offer. Don't accept until you get the one you want.  Most it's taken me over the years is 4 calls.

Yes, I posted details yesterday and the day before.

I called on Tuesday, was offered $50 a month, but that was all. Declined, set up cancellation for Friday. Called back again yesterday to change my cancellation date to Thursday instead of Friday (make sure you are getting to the Account Specialist Department... when prompted for reason of call, need to say "cancel my service")...

My explanation on the second call was switching to another provider for a bundle... The provider is offering Red Zone Channel in the package. I like to watch for fantasy football. It is cheaper and I get red zone. Gave me the ST Max for free (got this email before the call even ended - http://i.imgur.com/JltRUpj.png) and the $45 a month.

Agree - it is weird. Especially judging by all of the different offers I'm reading here. The $50 off for 12 months seems to be the most widely used, but doesn't come with ST.

Last year the "newdeal" offer was pretty much across the board. They're prob accepting this year that they'll have to keep giving away free stuff to retain customers, just making it a little more difficult to weed some customers out.

I do not  have a lot of dispossible time these days.  I have done this dance many tImes

from the last call on wed, the gal was supposed to send me a couple of newer remotes.  she sent the wrong ones (the ones i currently have).  i called to exchange.  casually asked if there were any loyalty discounts still available.

$25 more off per month x 12

free equipment upgrade (+ plus adding another connect to the guest room)

30% off ST max.

called got $50 off, asked for something for Sunday ticket and he couldnt find anything so waited on the $50 deal.  Will try again in a few days.

Oh also got $50 off the 1 time $99 fee for the wireless adaptor thingy

Called today to set up cancellation date of 6/26. I was immediately offered $50 off for 12 months, but nothing on Sunday Ticket. Maybe I'm getting greedy, but continued with cancellation. I'll make another call in a couple days.

thanks yeah said i couldnt get out of the $99 fee but would give me $50 instant credit.  Interested on how the wireless receiver works
when you set it up, think about if you ever want to have a "roving TV" and look for the best location to set up the hub.  During FB season, I set up multiple TVs in the living room sometimes, and often bring a TV outside or into the garage.  The wireless receiver has about a 75ft radius and works great for these situations.

New to the thread and not sure if it was brought up, but just got an email a few days ago about their changes to service contract. Due to this, you should be able to cancel if you want without paying any early termination if you want to use that as leverage. Don't say you're cancelling, just say you don't accept the terms of the new agreement. Your contact is then up and they can cancel service if they want.

I wish I would have pressed harder on Sunday Ticket, but $50 off for 12 months is still a good deal, IMO.

As mentioned before, keep calling until you find someone to give you the $45 off with free ST... I got it and BroncoFreak got it, it is out there. If you don't care about ST, $50 for 12 months is the best you're going to do, it appears.

I called and set up cancel date for 6/6, and they offered nothing at that time.  Received several calls before cancel went through and best they would offer was $20 off a month.  Last guy I spoke to said to let the cancel go through and then they would see what they could do.  Started getting calls after service was disconnected, but was out of town so I didn't worry about it.  Called them last last Friday and got the following: $45 off a month for 12 months, free ST max, 3 months of movie channels, $200 gift card.  I did have to do a 12 month contract, but didn't care.  Will just do the same thing next year.

that probably is the deal if you do indeed cancel.

Seems like it. If you're willing to actually cancel and all, it seems like they'll give you the better deal. If you don't want to go through the hassle of actually having to cancel service, the $50 off for 12 months seems to be the next best offer.

Doesn't the hub go directly to the modem / router?

there is a "directv" router that gets set up.  You can choose the location for that...and that's the source of the 75ft radius.  In order to watch on demand things, you need to have a wifi connection to your internet router.

Should have mentioned but the deal i got involved absolutely no haggling and took maybe 20 minutes.  He asked what we watched, I said football, and he offered up ST Max immediately.  Last year I had to haggle to get Max.  I never even mentioned the gift card, he just threw that in too.  Here is the number I called.  210-625-9046
