Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (5 Viewers)

I have to do this in a month or so. New customer finishing up 1st year of 2 year contract. Wonder if i will get much as still under contract?

Yesterday's call (without threatening cancellation yet)...claimed no discounts available...but I should call back next month and she thought there would be plenty for me.

No, I think I will call again this week or early next week and complain and set up cancellation instead.

That's how to play the game.

called, first rep offered $40 off a month no contract.  $9 off sunday ticket with the max portion free.  plus i'm eligible for a free genie upgrade.  i declined.  i forgot to set a cancellation date, so i called back.  this guy gave me $50 off a month for 12 month with a one year contract and we downgraded my package, saving another $7/mo.  he said to call back once direct tv is on the bill and at the very least, i'll get what the other agent had offered.  so far so good.
ST showed up on the bill.  called and was offered 20% off.  i declined and cancelled ST.  i'll call back another time.  current bill is $43

I disconnected yesterday at midnight. Waited for the email, none came. Called around 4pm and thanks to this post I told her I got the email for the Big Deal. She looked around and couldn't find anything, but said I should definitely qualify because I was disconnected. Talked to her superior and he OKd me getting the same package (Choice Extra) with a credit of $37/mo for 12 months, and a $10 credit for auto-pay for 12 mos. Like you, I had to prompt her for Sunday Ticket Max, and the $200 gift card. All done in less than 15mins and only a 12 month contract!

Total bill will be $65.99 + tax. I also received a credit for $45 towards my last bill that went to $118.Kind of a hassle, but definitely worth it!

Way to go!  My major chunk of discount is up on the 25th of this month.  I called today and the best I got was $15/mo. off and 3 months of Showtime.  I brought up the deals and she basically ignored what I said and kept launching back into her POS offer.

My disconnect date is the 18th and boxes are on their way.  Do you think that - even though its necessary to ship stuff back at some point after disconnect, that this hard move with the boxes is some part of their plan to still play hardball as long as they can?

With help from the FBG community, I no longer am DirectTV's gimp.

Just got off the phone (using the number provided here) and got the deal above with no prompting on my part.  My service was canceled last night around midnight.  I did not get a "winback" email.

It works.

Just made the call. Set a cancel date for midnight this Thu. They didn't even try to convince me to stay. I got the Big Deal last year. Nervous...

I have a refer a friend discount with like $80 left on it when my kid signed up for DTV.. if I let it cancel to get the big deal, will I loose the remaining months discount on the refer a friend? Obviously better to loose the current discount and get the better deal.. just wondered if anyone ever had any experience with that...

I'm calling tomorrow and requesting immediate cancellation.  Really pissed that I've been paying for a receiver that hasn't worked in months.  At least that's what my boys tell me.  Everything they watch is on Youtube or Netflix.

Made the first call, was offered $25 x 12 and another $22 x 6. I asked about ST and she said no. Set up a cancellation date for Monday.

ETA: get the "Big Deal" email this morning after last night's call. Offered ST:MAX and $80 off bill for 3 months, plus the $200 GC if I allow them to cancel/reconnect.

out of contract I take it?

Made the call offered me $50 off a month for 12 months plus all new equipment (wireless genies) plus a 4K receiver DVR.    Works for me.  I hardly watch NFL last year and will do so even less the year.

nice work!

Overall, I would rank this year as the second best year for our FFA deals on average.

Thanks!

That was their first offer and from what I read here, seemed good to me.  Don't care about the movie channels either.  The $200 GC would have been nice but just didn't feel like screwing with it.

Your post is the first time I've seen someone get new equipment with only 12 months.

My equipment is 8 years old and I resisted the Genie upgrades offered over the years as I don't want 24 months. I'm going to try for:

$47 off for 12 months

$200 GC

Free movie channels

Genie upgrades (2)

I don't really need ST Max because I get enough other games but I wouldn't turn it down. I would use RZ more but not necessary. We'll see.

 I was surprised too but I need new equipment.  I cited that as one of the reasons I was leaving which was 100% true.  They gave me the whole house DVR two years ago and they keep screwing up and it has been driving me crazy.

Can someone post that number again?
From Wooderson:

1 (855) 407-3110

but I don't think that maters much.

They were giving me nothing for discounts until my cancelation date happened. I called that morning and got everything in a 10 minute phone call with the first guy I talked to.

Also just a heads up being with them for 20 years doesn't matter. If you are out of contract they will want you back that's it.

I called DirecTV at 7:00 PM. All they offered was $10 off for a year. I setup cancellation for 11:59 pm that same night. After it got cancelled I waited until 1:00 pm before calling the number posted earlier. I didn't receive an email with any deal but I wanted to try my luck. I fibbed and told them that I did receive an email with an offer to gain me back as a customer. He said he will do his best to help me. That's when he offered me everything you guys have been offered. All on a 12 month contract.

-$200 Visa gift card
-$20 instant credit on my next bill
-$30 off for a year
-HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax free for 3 months
-Sunday Ticket Max free

I gladly accepted the deal. All thanks goes to this thread!

Service was disconnected at midnight. Called this number this morning. Got the following deal:

$47 off Choice extra package for 12 months

Free NFL Sunday Ticket Max

$200 Visa gift card

No free movie channels but I will take it.

Signed up under the wife.

Choice Extra (240 channels), 3 TV's (Genie)

$68.93 for 2 years price locked (includes the taxes)

2016 Sunday Ticket

3 months of movies

They didn't have the GC offer anymore - they tried upgrading my wife (AT&T cell) to unlimited but her bill would have jumped - She never goes over the 2GB and pays $53.00 - Always on wifi

They offered a free tablet, LG however there was an activation fee and it would be given a dedicated phone number that uses data if not on wifi.  We turned it down.

We were pretty happy with the $68.93 for two years and I'm happy with the Sunday Ticket.

I couldn't get the guy to cancel my Directv.  It literally took around 20 minutes of saying enough is enough my bill is so expensive.   Been a customer for 18 years this July.  They offered some bs cuts, and basically wanted me to cut my directv bill by giving up channels.  I told him that I would switch to Dish, or Cox the local cable company and with their promotions my bill would be cut in half.  Also, stated in a year or so if I didn't like Cox, or Dish I could switch back to Directv and get those new subscriber rates.    Set the disconnect for August 1st since that is when our current bill runs out.   We will see.

Make sure that's the price for two years.... Usually the big discounts drop off after one year. I've never seen anyone get a two year deal like this.

WoW the cancelled my service.  When I got home tonight it was already cancelled.

Well, they don't want to negotiate with new customers...lol.  I have been with Dish for 12 years, but the loss of NFL network has got me looking to possibly switch. I was finally able to talk my wife (who is not very tech savy and is very comfortable with the hopper) into switching.  I am in my favorite team's market, so the Sunday ticket isn't a big draw for me. Come to find out the deal I saw last week for 4 rooms is no longer there and now you can only get 2 rooms included (each additional room is $7). I proceed to call them to see if I can talk them out of the additional room charge - no go.  I got online and tried to chat them to remove the additional room charge - no go.  offered me Visa gift cards If I bundle with ATT to which I said there is no way I am switching wireless coverage because ATT has no signal where I live.   I guess it is either suck it up and pay the $14 per month so I can have NFL network (along with listening to the wife whine because she doesn't like directv)  or just say the heck with it and stay with dish and see if I can talk them down because they don't have NFL network.

Nfl network isn't that great bud

for those who switched to wife.. did you have to return boxes and have new install?
Yes, they sent boxes back, mailed them back, then a new tech comes out and it's free installation and all that jazz.

sounds like a bit of  a pain but could save a bunch for a year.  Would like to avoid if possible
They normally play the game with me for the past 4 years and got me to that price anyways.  This year, I tried everything in here and they just weren't offering anything.  Even canceled for a day etc, So I'm locked in for 2 years at that price, when it goes up after that I'll try playing the game, otherwise back to my name.

I have Uverse currently so at some point I'm going to need to consider Direct TV (or Dish or cable).  I had Dish like 10 years ago and had lots of signal problems during thunderstorms etc.  So you guys with DirectTv, have they found any way to improve signal issues in bad weather over the past 10 years, or would I still expect to experience drop outs?

I've only had a couple issues in 5+ years.

It seems like its better, but they relocated the dish.  We still get interruptions when we have heavy cloud cover or storms.  It's livable for the picture we get otherwise.

Not sure I am following you swirven ...no need to actually ship stuff back (is for the next box stuff?)

- you call and set a date to get disconnected, they arrange to send shipping boxes for your DTV boxes

- they disconnect you on that date at midnight

- you call the next morning and get the new customer deal ($47/mo. off, $200 VISA GC, ST, and 3 mo. free movies channels)

- sometime later you get shipping boxes and throw them away.

They added the first $45 charge for Sunday ticket

Not under any contract that I'm aware of, but have 4 different discounts that total $55 that expire next month. What's the play here....

Call to cancel Sunday Ticket, wait for current discounts to expire, and then cancel service and renew to get offers.... OR...

Cancel service now and renew to get offers?

How does this work if you're under contract though? IIRC they want $20 a month for months remaining under contract. You cancel with a year left you owe that right?

How long before your current discounts run out?

Verify where you are with contract or no contract.

If you don't want to miss out on NFL ST go ahead and cancel and renew.
