CAN'T do it, I've given up on........ (1 Viewer)

BigTex

Don't mess with Texas
A. Gonzalez and Tim Hightower! I have Wells and Williams and I don't need 3 backs from the same squad. If Gonzo sneeze he's prone to break a fibula, I'm done!!!!!

Not a debate thread but who have you given up on and dropped?

ETA: I'm in a Dynasty league

Actually I agree with giving up on Hightower because he's average at best and given the Cards have Wells and Williams, Hightower is useless IMO. As for Gonzalez, yes, he's had some bad luck, but I can see him bouncing back and surprising some. He will never be a WR #2, but he could still end up having a decent career. Having said that, it may not be with Indy.

Good God I'd have given up on Anthony Gonzalez by now too...

Wells and Williams are in a situation eerily similar to another Williams (DeAngelo) and Stewart in 2008? I'm a Wells owner in exactly one dynasty league - but I'm holding through this year at least.

Chaz Schillens was/is the guy for me. He showed flashes and I thought he had the opportunity to emerge as the WR1 in Oakland... but injuries derailed him too many times.

Lee Evans is mine. Yuck! All that talent just wasted. I don't understand why Stevie Johnson could rise to the top and Evans couldn't in that pass heavy offense??
Evans has always been a one trick pony all the way back to college. Run deep, that's pretty much all he's ever excelled at.

I wouldn't give up on him just yet, I could see him having a decent year. Johnson is the No. 1 but Evans could have a productive season IMO.

Harry Douglas. When he flashed in 2008, I thought he could be special growing with Matt Ryan. The injury + not looking good in 2010 following his comeback + Drafting Julio Jones stamped out the little flame I thought he had left....

Getting close with Jacoby Jones and Bernard Scott. Not there yet though.

Still holding Anthony Gonzalez, just because there is no trade value nor anyone better to pick up. Plus I have Garcon, so it's a bit of an insurance policy I guess.

I think the Falcons are about to give up on him too. Weems is a far better returner and Kerry Meier will beat him out for the other receiving job. I got rid of him last month.

Any 49er WR that hasn't produced in previous years and is being called a sleeper in the Josh Morgan and Jason Hill mold.

MSW. Never loved his talent, and I won't like him much more no matter where he goes. Already sold him awhile ago though.

Brandon Tate
Kinda surprised to see this name considering this is a WR entering his 3rd year. I was hoping to see a little more in the 2nd half last year but he's still a hold for this year, to me at least.
Word on him this offseason has not been good.Probably going to look to move him myself. A WR that cant learn a route tree is not a good thing...
Where did you get this info? I'd love to have anything that gets me a better bead on this guy.

"NFL Films guru Greg Cosell believes the Patriots "don't think much of" Brandon Tate at this point in his career. <br><br>"He  runs about three routes," says Cosell, "and the only time the ball  comes to him is when a play is specifically called for him." The Patriots offense relies on receivers who excel at pre-snap reads and route running, which simply aren't strengths at this stage of Tate's career. The loss of OTAs hurts his chances of a bigger role in 2011."Does this mean that he cant learn? I dont know, but looking back into late last season, the same things keep coming up; "poor routes" and "doesnt look like a natural wideout"...this latest tidbit is enough to tip my scales towards the "sell" side. I think Taylor Price is probably the guy to own.

Guys who I am giving up on:

Jacoby Jones - the breakout ain't comin', and I'm more inclined to carry Dickerson than Jones

Devin Hester - been trying to get even a late 3rd or early 4th for this guy and no takers

Legedu Naanee - had his chance and blew it. Not only that, had an abysmal catch %

Guys who are on their last chance with me:

Robert Meachem - this *has to* be the year with Colston's knee surgeries racking up

Vince Young - needs a year in Phi behind Vick or to outright be given the Mia job. If he goes to Phi, I want to see how he responds

Lee Evans - I know he has more in there than what we've seen recently but I'm losing my patience

Donnie Avery - a walking injury with talent and speed...

Can I add Michael Crabtree, Mark Sanchez, and Joe Flacco to the "last chance" list? Then add Donald Brown, Reggie Bush, Johnny Knox, and DHB tot he already "gave up on" list?

DJ Ware? You must have shallow rosters to drop Hightower
You've gotta at least wait another 2 weeks on Ware to see where AB or Jacobs go in FA, if anywhere. There's something there in the right situation. The guy is held hostage just like Grant was. But if they come back, he's probablya safe drop.

You're giving up on a WR that put up 960 yards and 5 TDs, his second season in the league?
People have been showing him more love then he deserves, and he is who I gave up on, you do not have to. Feel free to draft him as often as you like in as many leagues as you like.
Maybe I'm just misibterpreting what is meant by "gave up on". I was interpreting it as guys you've carried for a while and finally dropped. It would need to be a very shallow league to drop Knox. I don't have him in any of my three dynasty leagues, but would draft him in a re-draft if the draft value was there.

Jacobs is not a FA and if the Giants did not re-sign Bradshaw they would likely sign one of the other free agent RBs on the market. It doesn't seem that they trust Ware for some reason. Even in their late season blowouts, Ware didn't see the field.

I think its fair enough to start considering redraft again this year, at least I hope, lol. That is what I was speaking of. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'd give up on Ware, he didn't even get looks during garbage times last season, which is a real concern since Jacobs and Bradshaw have had a history of getting dinged up. Seems odd Ware wouldn't get the reps in garbage time to spare the other two backs and to gain game reps. Ware signed a 2 year deal in Feb. but I don't think he'll make the final cut. His biggest impact was that he lead the team rushing yards during the 2008 preseason, he's done nothing since. Bradshaw saw a lot more touches as the 3rd back behind Jacobs and Ward, than Ware ever sees. I understand the comparison of Ware to Grant, but I think Grant was a rare event. Not every practice squad/3rd sting RB for the Giants is starting caliber. I'd argue the Giants underestimated what they had in Grant. I don't see Ware doing much for the Giants or another team if he's cut.

Why? Can you unpack that one a little please? I'm curious b/c Flacco has been one of the more consistent-performing QBs in the league since his rookie year. Last year he finished QB11. I have a couple of teams where I would *love* to have Flacco as my QB2 who could easily be my starter if my QB1 went down...

Forgot about Dammit Donald... ya... add him to my above list of "losing my patience with".

He's on my "last chance" list, not the "gave up on" list. I mean he has improved just a bit each year, but he is far from a QB you can depend on, he needs to have more consistant games. Like I said, my "last chance list".

IDP - Coming close to throwing Everette Brown back. I'll most likely wait out this year to see if he eventually pans out. DE's can tend to take a while...but I have to see something from him within the first quarter of the season for him to stick the entire year. Roster limitations could affect my decision, as well.
