Can't Sleep What Do You Do To Pass The Time (1 Viewer)

James Daulton

Footballguy
I'm typically a good sleeper; however, occasionally there will be times like today where I wake up early (3 or 4) and can't fall back asleep.  I'll lay there for a bit, but rather than just toss and turn and be tempted to wake up the wife for some early am sex (she'd much prefer to sleep and hook up at a more reasonable hour), I'll get out of bed and go downstairs to watch tv, surf the net, work if needed.  Occasionally I'll lift if the mood strikes.

Anybody else have this issue and do you do anything normal or weird to pass the time?

I can never go back to sleep no matter what.  Once I'm up I'm up.  Today I lay awake from 3:15 and got out of bed at 4.

This site's pretty dead in the early am.

It generally takes me two hours or so to get tired again  sometimes that means it'll be light out, but the i go to sleep anyway.

And the site is always pretty dead during holiday weekends, especially at this hour.

We can all hope that the orange one says something stupid soon....

Don't look at your phone or think of fun things to do. That's the worst thing you can do.   You commit to waking up and you train yourself that waking up early in the future will be rewarded.  Focus on going back to sleep.

Take long slow breaths through your nose.  As long as you can.  Picture your lungs filing with air nearly to bursting and your heart rate slowing down.  Match the sound of your breath to ocean waves.  Commit to going back to sleep.

was right there with ya ... up for the day at roughly 3;30

normally i do my cardio and go out for a run between 4;30 and 5;30 every morning, but it's hangover Sunday, so already on my second pack of smokes and third humongous coffee

:coffee:

My mind races when I wake up early. I have to surf the net or watch a show on the iPad with headphones to clear my head.

If im really awake and there's no chance of falling back asleep, I'll do the ab roller and then head downstairs. Seems to be happening about twice a week lately.

Second pack of smokes after a night probably spent smoking like a chimney?  Yuck, I could never smoke the day after, my throat always felt like ###.

Solid advice.

hit a boatload of bars last night, so the smoking was kept in check ... got home and jammed to some Def Leppard with my daughter (she's learning guitar), so ... no smoking for another hour or so.

making up for lost time this lovely a.m.

If I wake up and can't go back to sleep, I take it to the living room couch and read. Always works for me luckily. On the rare occasions that's failed, I work out.

I typically fall asleep with the TV on.  I don't want to turn it on in the bed room at 3 am and wake up my wife, so I will go downstairs get comfortable on the couch, and find something really boring to watch that won't hold my interest, and I usually can fall back asleep.  Married with Children or Law and Order re-runs are at the top of my list of effectiveness.
