Carlos Hyde - Is now the time to sell or buy? (1 Viewer)

Is Hyde a buy low or sell high? I feel like right now we are at a major crossroad with Hyde and one year from now he'll either be a first round pick or a midrounder, so getting this right is important for all of us.

Things going for Hyde:

1) Should be the lead RB on a past run heavy team

2) No other RB on their roster can handle a heavy workload, goal line work

3) Reportedly lost weight a la Bell last year

4) Seemed to have decent hands

Things going against Hyde:

1) SF D on the decline = more playing from behind = more reps for Bush

2) SF OLine is no longer top 5 with the loss of Mike Iupati

3) New coaching staff - will they have the same run heavy strategy? Do they view Hyde as their guy long term?

4) Colin Kaepernick might steal carries

5) Colin Kaepernick is a bottom of the league QB, so the overall opportunity might not be there for Hyde given changes on OLine and Defense

So what should we do? Buy or Sell? Footballguys most recent dynasty rankings have Hyde at the #3 consensus dynasty RB. I think this is insane. I could see top 10, but not top 5. As the season grows closer, I've really soured on Hyde. I just tried to trade Hyde + Ebron for Ameer Abdullah and I was shot down. Do I add in a 1st and try to gain back a 2nd to the deal? I don't want to be caught on the wrong end of owning Hyde and I feel now might be the time to sell.

Not sure he's even going to be the #1 RB on the team by the end of the season even if he stays healthy. Davis might be the better RB. It's close. I'd be selling him if i owned him.

Duly noted but this seems like too strong of a take for me. Hyde looked decent, but not great, last season. If he was demoted to the 3rd RB spot in SF, I'd be shocked. If we were talking about Monte Ball/CJ Anderson last year, I would have said you are spot on, but I don't see it with Mike Davis.

I don't know if he's a huge buy but he's not a sell. People don't like the situation for all the reasons you listed. All their other rbs are poor though (Bush is done) and his price almost has to go up.

To sell now would be selling low.

I bought him twice this offseason as he was my top ranked back in last years class. I think he lookd decent last season but never really got a chance as Gore is the everlast bunny.

If not for his "down" rookie season his price tag would likely be much higher so I'm looking at him as a buy low. I wouldn't even trade him straight up for Abdullah, let alone add a first to the package.

As a point of reference, I bought Hyde a month ago for my 2016 1st (likely to fall within 1.04 through 1.08 range) and the 2015 2.07 which was spent on the last remaining devy roster slot (Mike Williams, Clemson WR).

No regrets, yet.

I'd sell. San Fran looks to be a mess.
SF was a mess for years and Frank Gore was fine. It would be hard to argue at this point that Gore wasn't a better overall talent, but the point remains that a team doesn't have to be good to have productive fantasy players.

I just watched his highlights and I was fairly impressed. He has power and vision, but then again on a few of his biggest runs there was a huge hole for him. I did offer a 1st in my offer with Hyde + Ebron for Ameer Abdullah. No dice. I'm just going to stick with him.

Sold a few weeks back in the only league I had him in for Cooks. PPR league and I don't think SF will be able to run a lot. Their arrow is definitely pointing down.

That dude did you a favor not taking that trade, I don't know how he passed that up. Remember just because a team is bad doesn't always mean players can't stand out. I am holding on Hyde unless I get an offer I can't refuse.

I recently traded Hyde for Duke Johnson and Jay Ajayi in my Reality Sports Online League. There are contracts so that played a part (Hyde only under contract for 3 more years, 2 rookies for 4 years), but I considered it selling low for sure. Doesn't mean his price will get any higher though. I kind of view him as a poor man's Alfred Morris at this point. Boom/bust RB2 for the foreseeable future.

Why would you do that trade? That looks horrible.

Ouch, this is a lopsided trade. Odds are that you won't be a happy camper on this one.

I am a Hyde owner and SF's current situation is scary, but I holding on for the simple fact that the dude is bruiser and hits holes with a purpose.

Seems like a great buy low to me even if the 49ers are a mess. I'd have no issue with him as a RB2 in a league of 12 or more.

Wait you offered Hyde, Ebron, and a 1st for AA? And that guy didn't take that? That's nuts. Hyde has a great chance to flat out be better than AA and even if not, that's some nice mitigation to get Ebron and a 1st.

It's a great time to buy. Most Hyde owners only have a 1st invested in him from last year, and with all the negative talk might be looking to cash out so should probably be able to get him cheap. The above offer of Duke + Ajayi is an interesting one, and the kind of thing some owners would jump on. I love Ajayi, and if I were nervous about Hyde (I'm not) I could easily see taking a late 1st (Duke) plus a high-upside 2nd like Ajayi. Duke probably isn't the name for me, but someone else at his ADP like Dorsett could tempt me.

I like Ameer Abdullah fine, but it seems that's two people falling victim to the offseason hype of padless, non-contact practices where a small quick guy like Abdullah is sure to look good. I'm not saying it would be shocking if Abdullah ended up having a better career than Hyde but that offer is basically three first picks (since Hyde and Ebron were both mid-firsts last season) for a guy going in the later part of the first this season.

Agreed. That would've been a really bad trade.

[i am not a Hyde owner][i am talking dynasty]

I am more on the "sell" side of the spectrum. I value him as a low-end rb1 but the "hype" but many seem to rate him higher. If another owner valued him as a (breakout/ascendant) mid-to-high rb1 and offered a trade at that value, I would take it.

That said, in the trade offer above ([Hyde, Ebron AND a # 1] for [Abdullah]), I would be running to buy me some Hyde if I had Abdullah!

FYI, Chip has no say over personnel decisions. That was a condition of him being hired. Balke is the mastermind behind all personnel decisions.

Feel better?

I don't.

He was a star in the read option in college. I wanted him to go to Philly when he first came out. Obviously Chip looks bad last year but Shady had his best years under Chip and both Kaepernick and Gabbert are more a fit then Bradford was for his offense.

I sold him and matt jones for Langford. Sometimes you gotta go with your gut....
If you were truly "going with your gut" you'd have gotten Eddie Lacy back instead.

Hyde runs a lot more like Mathews than Murray. He'll be fine in Chip's offense. I think people always seem to overlook that Chip's offense is run heavy.
