-- Giants; David Carr Agree to Contract --

The Star Ledger reports QB David Carr has agreed to terms of a one-year deal with the Giants, according to a person familiar with the negotiations who is not authorized to speak for the Giants.

Doesnt anyone realize that if they stop signing carr he could be hanging out with Tim Couch??

Was Jared Lorenzen and Anthony Wright that bad as a backup to Eli?

:goodposting:

I'll miss Lorenzen. Every time he gets in, it looks like the center just kept the ball and started back-peddling. That guy totally rules. He's an Oakland A's type of guy.

Actually, having Carr as your #2 and Lorenzen as #3 essentially makes Lorenzen the #2 (as soon as Carr sprains his hair a couple of snaps into a game).

trivia:

1. when's the last time a #1 overall pick was the backup QB to another #1 overall pick?

2. to start the season? (sort of a hint to #1)

As a Giants fan... im undecided... i hope we got him on the cheap... we all love the hefty lefty... and as for carr's durability... to say he's injury prone is bs... at least give him credit where credit is due... the guy broke the record for sacks in a season for like 2 years running in houston.. he rarely missed a game.. he might not be able to hit water throwing from a boat... but he tries. And yes... im praying that Eli stays healthy.

ugh.

The Eagles sign Asante Samuel and we sign David Carr.

Now granted, I didn't have any respect for Tom Coughlin until a few weeks ago and now recognize his, and the organizations, current greatness, but, David Carr? Really?

Carr is a big upgrade over the likes of Lorenzen, Wright and Tim Hasselback... really. As for whomever the Eagles, or any other team, might sign, last I checked we judge success in the NFL by Lombardi trophies, not FA signings.

Edit to add: For those saying that the Giants better "pray Eli stays healthy" it's not like the Giants were saying that it's all cool if Eli gets hurt because we have Wright and Lorenzen ready to come in and lead this team. Eli is a franchise QB and few teams can afford to loose their franchise QB and not miss a beat, but I am more comfortable with Carr than anyone else holding the clipboard since Kurt Warner.

I thought Manning was the 4th overall pick

Manning was picked 1st overall then traded :/

I probably missed the sarcrasm/dig. Pfft.

Carr is better than Anthony Wright. I heard he got signed for 1 mil. Not bad to have a QB with game experience backing you up. If Jared goes, thats 3 QBs with starting exp. Ill take it for backups, can't ask for more.

Christ Palmer, the giants QB Coach had the same postilion with the Texans and was the OC I believe when Carr played.

As a giants fan this isn't a big deal to me.... I'm sure they got him on the cheap. We're pretty screwed if Eli goes down anyways no matter if its Wright, Lorenzen etc.

I'm actually surprised though a team with it's QB situation up in the air, didn't try to bring him into camp on the cheap to see if he could be turned into something

Good for David Carr. The guy has done nothing, but landed mid-six figures (at least) to sit around and hold a clipboard. Who wouldn't want that job?

Who carrs its backup QB, I hope he was cheap though, would rather have Green, but atleast we have a guy with major game time.

"Chris knows me better than anybody," Carr told ESPN.com. "I'm looking forward to getting in there and working with him on what's right and wrong with my mechanics."
Says the six-year veteran. :lmao:

David Carr really is one of the worst professional QB's i've ever seen. Just dreadful. I agree he took a beating in Houston and whatnot, but the guy has NO downfield vision or awareness. He throws EVERYTHING to his dumpoff WR's. I've never seen anything like it. How a guy with Steve Smith on his team could fail as miserably as Carr did this season in Carolina is mind blowing to me. I just do not see anything in him that would inspire him holding any QB spot on my team's roster. Let alone having to play a prominent role if my starter went down. I'd rather see what they had in Lorenzen or Wright than sign Carr. As a Dallas fan, it doesn't really matter to me. But I just don't see much reason for hope in Carr at this point. i mean he's obviously not the WORST signing or WORST Qb out there, but he just does nothing for me as a casual observer anymore

They did... and then they signed Carr.

The truth is that the backup situation for Eli was awful and if Eli got hurt it would have been a huge downgrade. Carr has obviously performed poorly, but he may actually be an upgrade (not sure though)

Carr and Pennington dump the ball off more than any QB in the game.

I'm not convinced he'll be the #2 when the season starts. Wright and Lorenzen may still beat out Carr for the QB2 and QB3 jobs. Would that really surprise anyone?

I stand by saying the Giants better pray nothing happens to Eli. I watched Carr last season totally wreck the Panthers offense. Old man Vinny did a better job than Carr when he ran it, and so did the young rookie Matt Moore.

People were talking about Favre improving his mechanics 3 years ago.
Carr's problems go waaaaaaaay beyond mechanics. He has poor decision-making and is afraid to try to make tough throws. Did you watch him in any Panthers games last year? I can honestly say that was the worst QB play I have seen since Marc Wilson was QB for the Pats in the late 80s. The fact he was able to steal $1MM from the Giants is embarrassing. Depending on his signing bonus, wouldn't shock me if he didn't even make the team.
