Watching a good young DE like White
he's not that good.
OK, how many 26 year old DE are floating about in free agency? Rumors are that Simeon Rice will be gone a well. This defense has some serious holes in it Capella. You have to build and the Bucs are looking like they want a flashy WR at #4 in the draft...they sent McFarland on his way...he may not be that good but he was good enough to anchor the Colts DL to a championship...I know he didn't do it all himself, no need to point it out. They just don't seem to be making wise decisions, I don't like Allen the GM, and siging 37 year old Garcia and getting Plummer's rights seems more and more like desperation. Chucky is feeling the heat right or wrong, and I don't see them getting better right now.
Why not spend the money and go out and get some desperately needed OL help?
who cares how old he is?
Age is a major factor when wrapping up FA...26 years old means as a DE his best days are ahead of him possibly. he didn't play particularly well last year and is a 7-8 sack a year guy. he'll be rather easily replaced.
With what other DE in free agency Capella?
I thought he was the worst FA signing so far, considering the price -- and some list of FA rankings had White as the 30th best FA available
QB, RB, WR, TE, OT, OG, OC, DE, DT, OLB, ILB, CB, FS, SS...14 positions at least tells me that if he was ranked #30 that he was probably one of the best 3-4 FA DE available this off season-- he's just not that good of a player, sorry.
Rice is said to be staying as well. Considering he'll be getting paid as much as White, he's practically a steal at this point.
Mcfarland was horrible in Tampa. Who cares what he did in Indy, totally irrelevant to the Bucs. And I think saying he 'anchored' that line is a stretch anyhow.
And I think I agree with you but you have to have something to take the place of...who is going to be playing DT now for the Bucs?
I'm on record saying I don't like Garcia cutting into Simms' PT, but there's little doubt he's a better present option than Chris is. So I can see why Gruds wants to start him, considering his job probably is on the line, and how well Jeff played last year..
As for OL help, they've spent 3 recent high draft choices on the line (Buenning, Joseph, Trueblood) and were said to be heavily going after that FA that signed with Cleveland. Other than that, there's not a lot out there. Some of these kids have to develop.
