Cat talk/advice - all meow, all the time (1 Viewer)

I have read zero posts in this thread. I have a cat due to the fact that my daughter adopted a kitten years ago and then left her to me when she went to college. The cat has sent three dogs and two humans to the hospital, but those of us that she gets along with really like her. She is clingy, bitchy, a little fat, and every once in a while just screams for no reason at 4 am.

Love this cat. She's sleeping next to me right now.

Just a little vent to my cat people. We have six (I know, I know), four of whom are 11+ years old. When we moved in August, we wanted to set up new vets for everyone so that we'd have someone in an emergency. We decided to start with the four oldsters, two at a time. So far:

1. Two are hyper-thryoid and now have twice-daily meds.
2. Two needed (and received) dental surgeries.
3. One has high blood pressure and now has once-daily meds for that (he's one of the hyper-thyroids, too).
4. One has pancreatitis, which has involved emergency vet visits and various meds and giving fluids.

I have no money left.

Oh! I forgot the ECG we got for the high-blood-pressure, hyperthyroid cat last month because he had some value that looked weird and they thought he might have a heart problem. That came back clean, at least ($750 later).
I’ll see your $750…..and raise you to $5000

My daughter moved away 2 yrs ago & was eager to get a Bengal cat for herself. Well before we knew it she went out and found one & brought it home. Couple wks later she’s concerned about the new cats BUTTHOLE. Turns out….It is herniated…..which looks a lot like a red/raw “outie bellybutton “
It needs to be fixed with a surgery.
• Cats has 1st surgery with regular local vet. $
• Butthole not fixed
• Specialist vet called in for consultation
• Specialist vet performed 2nd more expensive surgery $. (Basically the herniated part is pushed back “in” and sewed to the abdomen wall)

Total bill was >$5000 😳
Good news is the 2nd surgery was a complete success & everything has been good to go since.

Oh no! Glad he’s ok.

However, I still “win.” My cat who had the ECG and is now on meds for hyperthyroidism and for high blood pressure has previously had three emergency surgeries, in each case between $5000-$7500. Most expensive kitty I’ve ever had. He’s lucky he’s wonderful and adorable.

Wow. They are lucky kitties!!!

So last Friday we made the tough decision to put down our ~19 year old cat (not sure on age as we weren’t original owner). He’d been a part of the entirety of my wife and my relationship. Was tough, but was the correct call. The house seems a bit more empty, our son took it well - but the thing I didn’t see coming is how it would affect our ~5 year old dog. She seems pretty depressed now.

Do you have cats ? ✅ 🐱🐱
Do you have allergies that are triggered by the dander from your cats ?? 🙁 😤

Purina Pro Plan Allergen Reducing Cat Food - LIVECLEAR
THE 1ST ALLERGEN-REDUCING CAT FOOD
Pro Plan LiveClear is the 1st & only cat food shown to reduce the major allergen in cat hair & dander by an average of 47% starting in the 3rd wk of daily feeding.

- All cats produce a common allergen, Fel d 1, in their saliva
- When cats eat LiveClear, a key protein sourced from eggs binds to the Fel d 1 & neutralizes it

I wanted to let everyone know about this food that we switched to about a mth ago.
Feedback from the humans in our household said that they think things are better 👍
Feedback from the felines in our household seem to give it 2 paws up too. 🐾
No gastral issues or throw ups at all......and in fact, one of our cats that used to pass gas on the old food has now stopped doing that.
Several flavors and sizes available. More expensive than normal food, but if your allergies are acting up, give it a try.

Anyone else using this? or have tried it?

My cat follows me around and never lets me sit anywhere without trying to lay on me in some capacity. Just me, never my wife, and only sometimes my son (except at night, he sleeps by my sons head every night cause we close our bedroom door.
Just ranting. The cat is annoying.

Got a new (rescue) cat! Sheba! She’s 11 pounds of pure love. Sleeps in our son’s room every night till we have to go get her when we go to bed. Gets along well with the dog, too.

The only time my cat will lay in my lap is in the early morning when my wife is still sleeping. Once my wife gets up, the cat is in her lap. The cat knows that my wife is very jealous and will fuss at me of I pick up her cat and sit down. The cat immediately walks across the sofa and gets in my wifes lap.

Mookie is highly particular about laps. Daughter or wife on the sofa with a blanket over them. Yes.

Lately, she wanders out when we've sat down to watch TV 9ish and goes right to my lap, no blanket. Any other time? Nfw.

Lillo otoh, lies belly to belly, face to face... Pawing at your mouth if you talk to much. The dude abides.

Went to Istanbul for the first time. Soooo many cats!
It's there where people actually respect and care about the feral population... I think? feel like I've seen SM posts about it.

vs other places like Greece where they seem (IME) to be treated more like cuter versions of rats or pigeons.
