I recently acquired Charles Tillman through free agency, and I have to say Im a bit concerned that they signed Manning to an offer sheet. Most of the free info sites are reporting that he will be competing with Tillman. What are your guys' thoughts?

Id be more worried about Manning beating out Vasher than Tillman - I know that there's talk of Manning competing with Tillman, but I think Vasher is the more suspect CB.

Agreed, one of the most overrated stats, when it comes to evaluating corners is INTs. Sometimes the CB with the INTs is truly elite, but it seems just as often that he's a lucky corner playing opposite a better corner. There's been talk about switching Tillman to FS for awhile now, it seems to make sense.
A lot of the Bears fans I talk to are really down on Tillman after last season. He put up nice fantasy stats, but he was very inconsistent and was beaten pretty regularly. I still maintain he's a great fit for the Bears defensive system and should be a fixture for awhile, but he'll need to show better coverage skills going forward.
That being said, Vasher and Tillman are very safe in their starting jobs for the time being. Manning is a perfect fit as the nickel back and would basically replace Jerry Azumah and RW McQuarters, who they have lost the last couple offseasons. Even if they get Manning, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bears also draft a CB in round 1.
"We brought him (Manning) here for a reason,'' coach Lovie Smith said. "I can't say enough about him. He's a tough player, he's perfect for what we want to do. We want someone to replace [nickel back] Jerry Azumah right away. He would be a good fit.''
Smith also dispelled one notion this offseason that Tillman could be moved to safety.
"He's a corner for us,'' he said. "It's hard for us to move anyone. We only had two [corners] who played, so think about one of them moving to another position. How hard that would be?''
Another take on Manning, Jr. as a threat. Taken from KFFL.
Panthers | Police and courts: R. Manning Jr.Mon, 24 Apr 2006 05:39:44 -0700Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Carolina Panthers restricted free agent CB Ricky Manning Jr. was arrested shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, April 23, in Los Angeles and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after a melee at a Denny's restaurant left a patron unconscious. He was bailed out of jail, and Los Angeles Police Department detective Robert Lewis said late Sunday that a court date has not been set. According to Lewis, Manning was in a group that attacked a man in the restaurant after teasing him for working on a laptop computer. The group fled the restaurant, but the car Manning was in was pulled over by officers just blocks from the scene in Westwood Village near the campus of UCLA, where he played in college. Manning Jr. recently signed an offer sheet with the Chicago Bears.
I had heard some of the same grumblings that you had Aaron. That was the main reason for my concern, though I was hoping that he was brought in for depth and to play the nickle. Maybe, he would even push Tillman a bit.
I would say the late night melee should seal the deal that Carolina will not match, but I would expect they will wait to the last minute to announce.

Yup, CAR chose not to match.Talk about timing. The Panthers netted a 3rd-round pick for a player who, if still on the team, may have been cut following yesterday's developments.
