CBS Sportsline problems in week 6 (1 Viewer)

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I sent a complaining email yesterday to CBS demanding an explanation of what was going on with their site. Today, I received the following response, which I have to say appaers to be a reasonable response/offer to the situation. Based on this response and the fact that we've used CBS for a number of years and have been, for the most part, very satisified, I think we'll be sticking with them for a while longer.

We are aware that some leagues experienced difficulty in accessing the web site on Sunday (10/15/06). While every effort was made to prepare for a trouble-free week of fantasy football, an issue with the week 5 statistics presented itself on Sunday morning, which created a need to run a corrective process prior to starting the week 6 games. The duration of the corrective process affected some league’s access to the site at the start of this week’s games. I’m sorry if your league was affected by this situation. If you are completely dissatisfied with our web site, I will extend the MONEY BACK GUARANTEE which I’ve copy/pasted below from the site by five weeks for your league. If by the end of week 9 you are still unsatisfied, your request for a complete refund per the Money Back Guarantee will be processed. MONEY BACK GUARANTEECBS SportsLine.com Football CommissionerIt is our intention to provide the best fantasy sports league management services available anywhere. Therefore, refund requests will only be accepted from and processed for the individual who paid for the league. There will be no partial refunds. • Refunds will be processed in the following manner:Credit card: Refunds will be credited to the credit card account used to pay the league fees.Check or money order: We will send a check to the address on record for the person who canceled the league. • Refunds will be processed as soon as the refund request is authenticated by our Fantasy Support Staff. ' date='Oct 16 2006, 06:33 AM' post='5729225']a) when you cut a player in our league, you can keep 50% of his salary for your waiver budget. (i.e., cut a $12 player and keep $6 for your cap). MFL won't support this.
Wrong. They allow you to set it up to subtract any % of the players salary.
Also, we use both Blind Bidding and First Come First Serve waivers, yet MFL only charges the BBs against the cap. (We have to manually deduct the FCFS waivers from everyone's budget.)
We use BB and then FCFS and the Accounting records are kept for both.
b) we deduct an additional 2 points for INTs that are returned for TDs. MFL can't seem to calculate this.
Yes they do. You can deduct for number of INT+TD's thrown and for the length.
c) we have emailed them and their response is just, "Thanks for the suggestions."
Looks like they listened to you on most of them. :thumbup:So the only thing left is the ebay style bidding.

that's not a correct statement
Sorry, but it's quite correct -- and I'll be happy to provide the email from the MFL staffer, confirming that their system is incompatible with our needs. And you did not refute my claim that MFL doesn't charge FCFS waivers against the cap, nor did you refute my claim that MFL can't support eBay-style bidding.

Percent Of Player's Salary That Should Be Charged To Franchise Owner When Player Is Dropped: ____ %
This is one of the options for setting up a league.

Percent Of Player's Salary That Should Be Charged To Franchise Owner When Player Is Dropped: ____ %This is one of the options for setting up a league.
As has been explained before, this option will "charge" a fee to an owner, but it does not apply that fee to the salary cap.Example:

Let's say I have a $50 budget and I want to drop a $12 player and buy another player for $5. My budget SHOULD then be $51 (50+(12*.5)-5), right? But instead, MFL will list my budget as $45 (50-5), or maybe even some other wacky number. Then, in a totally separate part of the site (Franchise->Salary Adjustments), it will list the $6.

MFL is incapable of combining the 'salaray adjustments' with your waiver budget!!!

Furthermore, FCFS waivers are tracked in another completely separate part of the site!! (Franchise->Accounting). Again, MFL is incapable of incorporating these two elements.

The game day management of the software is horrible and has been all season. The two leagues I am in will not be using them in the future, and will be taking our business to mfl.

Here are the rules for our league. I will PayPal $20 to anyone who can show me how to set this up in MFL so that it tracks salaries and waiver budgets flawlessly without any manual interference.

----------------------------------------

1. All teams start off with $50 in waiver dollars.

2. Weekly losers get an additional $5 added to their waiver account.

3. When you cut a player, you get 50% of his value added to your waiver account. (That player is then locked for 1 week, and his dollar value is erased.)

4. Free agents are acquired via blind bidding (highest bidder gets the player). Winning bids are deducted from waiver account.

5. First Come/First Serve waivers are available Friday through Sunday morning. Each player costs $1 (this money is also deducted from the waiver account).

----------------------------------------

The goal:

1. The system must keep an accurate tally of every team's current waiver account.

2. The system must accurately report every player's salary -- including FCFS players.

Bonus points if you can get the transaction report to reflect the 50% values of cut players.

Seriously: $20 if you can do this. :moneybag:

This option is available in the salary cap settings. If your cap is $50 and you make a drop of a $12 player your cap will then be $56. If you then bid on a guy for $5, your cap will be $51. All you have to do is make the amount the player is won in auction his "salary". This is done by just one click of the button in the setup.I made a site real quick. Tell me if this is correct.

1. Set the "cap" at $50 like your example.

2. I bid $12 on Addai. (cap $38)

3. I dropped him (+$6 to my cap, $44)

4. I bid $5 on Alstott (-$5, cap at $39)

Here is my roster with money left.

Player Salary

Alstott, Mike TBB RB $5.00

1 Total Players

Salary Adjustments: $6.00

Total Salary: $11.00

Salary Cap: $50.00

Cap Room Available: $39.00

ETA: I did this before I saw your bet. im just trying to see what the fuss is about CBS. Not trying to persuade one way or the other.

I don't think this will factor FCFS waivers into the salary cap (it seems to treat them separately), nor do I think it can factor the bonus $5 for weekly losers. :(

This can be done. If the standard FCFS value of the player has a set price, say $2, this can be set as a salary. All you have to do is set it up so the value the player is picked up as is his salary. As far as the $5 bonus you should be able to add a +5 in the debt column for a loss in the set up. This I am not sure about, because you would have to run the league for at least a week to get results. I am also not sure if this one is kept in the salary part or just accounting.

I wouldn't jump to MFL without showing everyone in the league what it's like there. We moved from RT to MFL and it's been a disaster. RTs interface is way better. I'm surprised how much the message board at RT kept losing owners entertained compared to the scrap heap we use now. MFL has the feel of very old software.

I only had little problems here and there, but for the most part my league loves CBS. We've been using the software for 6-7 years though, so we might be on a different server than others who are having problems.

I got the exact same response word for word. I did not request a refund - what does that mean - then we're out a hosting site for the rest of the year? Not doing that. What I don't like is that they're making it sound as though it's a week 6-only issue when in fact it's been 3 out of 6 weeks.
