I should probably pick Shine as I listened to that more, but went with Centerfold as it was one of the few songs my mom listened to in the car that I liked.

Ordinary World.

When I look at the boy bands of today and near past I can honestly say that Duran Duran had way, way more chops than anything modern.

"Overkill" wins this, even though Cargo (the album it was off of) was not as good as Business As Usual. I love the melody to this one. I haven't heard this in twenty years and I still know some of the lyrics. Wow. Must have left an impression.

"Centerfold" is more nostalgia than anything.

"Ordinary World" is aight.

Collective Soul is just . . . I compost that song and put it out with the Green Waste receptacle.

Overkill is high on my list of underrated 80s songs. Shine is a good tune, centerfold was overdone imo but is still a fun song. Really tough choice between ordinary world and overkill but went overkill.

Close one for me between Ordinary World and Overkill, but I give the slight edge to Ordinary World.

Duran Duran was pretty much a has-been by the early '90s. but this song is a gem with a killer wailing guitar solo by Warren Cuccurullo (who I really liked with Frank Zappa and Missing Persons back in the day).

I think I was a junior in HS when ordinary world came out, it gave the hope that Duran Duran would be back. Was not to be, but I still like hearing from a band we hadn’t gotten much quality from in years.

ETA - I just looked up their discography. Wow, they released a lot more than I recall later.

Yeah, they were definitely hangers on for many years with altering lineups. Nothing can compare with the early days though for sure.

FWIW, if we do another artist countdown, I’ve already pegged DD as my pick.

The only song I knew from the title was Centerfold. Had to click the links to the other songs to know which song it was.
:null: vote for me.

I'm creating a spotify playlist of all the winners. Calling it Nipsey's Bangers
I'm forever grateful that Nipsey turned me on to the Dead South in one of these. I play their songs regularly now.*

*Yes, sometimes I live under a rock. The reality is I am just not that dialed into the music scene due to working a million hours with young kids and I now prefer podcasts on long drives.

Shine for me.

I saw Collective Soul in 2005 in my hometown of about 10K. I was really excited at first, but I quickly realized this wasn't so much a top-shelf concert in my backyard as it was a sad look into how fleeting musical success can be. They closed with Shine and it was awesome, but then the singer said "Tell your family, tell your friends that you saw Collective Soul!" I think he was trying to sound cool but it came across more like "Please remind people we still exist so we can get some better gigs."
