Chad Brown (1 Viewer)

From what I read, he went to NE because he had a shot at a starting spot. NE is proceeding as though they won't have Teddy B this year, but he is starting to look like he could come back, if not for game 1, not too long after that. He's been cleared to run and lift by the doctors already..... and is actively doing just that at the Pats' facility. Not sure which LB spot Brown would play in at this point, either. Not much help, eh?

I think that Brown will step into a prominent role with the team. If Bruschi plays he is still the 2nd best LB on the team and if he doesn't he's the best LB on the team. The fact that they signed him to a multi million dollar contract means they don't plan for him to sit on the bench. I think think of a better place than New England to resurect a career.I have him bumped up into my strong LB3 category. I think he can easily be a 60+ solo guy this season with Bruschi and could hit 75+ without him.

At this point in his career, if he's a better player than Willie McGinest and Mike Vrabel, or Rosevelt Colvin, this signing is even better than I thought.

I wouldn't dispute where he ranks on talent, but is he likely to play ILB? If he's playing OLB in a 3-4 (and rotating with other talented LBs to boot), it's hard to see him posting 75 tackles.

It's all a crap shoot: here's an article from the Boston Globe:

The Patriots have 17 linebackers on their roster. The important spot is obviously the inside linebacker position of Tedy Bruschi. While a decision on Bruschi's future is expected in the next 30 days, the Patriots have tried to compensate for his potential loss by adding former Chief Monty Beisel and former Steeler and Seahawk Brown, to go along with Ted Johnson.

Dan Klecko, who had been converted to inside linebacker before his season-ending injury last year, should be in the mix, and young Eric Alexander, a protege of the departed Roman Phifer, could emerge.

The Patriots have a full complement of outside 'backers, led by Willie McGinest, Mike Vrabel, and Rosevelt Colvin. Could be the year for Tully Banta-Cain to earn some playing time in the rotation.

There was also an article in yesterday's paper which spoke more of Brown being a pass rush specialist vs. a tackle type of guy. It looks like the Pats are going to be heavily into the "situational" substitution world when it comes to their linebackers. With Teddy out, I foresee most of these guys with lines of 4-0-0.5, or 3-3-0, etc... Not many fantasy points for ONE guy.

I think there is little doubt that they brought Brown in as a replacement for Bruschi. Ted Johnson is long in the tooth and has a history of injury. I don't see him as a full time player. Look for Beisel and Brown to be the starters. The fantasy value comes down to which of those two guys earns the full time role.
