Chad Johnson better learn a lesson (1 Viewer)

No touchdowns in the last 6 games. Ten catches for 122 yards in his last three games.

Football is a game of emotion, and if you prod your opponents too much, they will put all their effort into stopping you, even if that might leave them vulnerable somwhere else.

Johnson only had four 100-yard receiving games this year, and only scored in four games. His overall numbers look pretty good, but aside from the SD and NO games, he wasn't as productive as he has been in the past.

Chad Johnson and learn a lesson are two things I never thought I'd see together in a sentence. There are some people that will never learn, they cannot keep their mouth shut or keep from preening about or showboating around. He is one of them. Usually he backs it up a little more is all.

No one likes a loudmouth who doens't back up what he says. I find CJ entertaining, and most of his ribbing is harmless, but maybe he should concentrate on playing football because this year was a rude awakening for him.

The problem is they have Henry as an excellent 3rd WR who's taking all the TD's.
Yup and Palmer clearly likes throwing to Henry. The Bengals have the luxury of three WRs who are all starting caliber and would be No. 1s on a number of teams. So on a week-to-week basis somebody is going to get squeezed.

and the matchup is just too good for Henry most of the time. Would you rather throw to CJ with Bailey covering him or Henry with the 3rd CB on him? Thus the 9 td's.

When will these idiots (CJ, TO, and countless other showboats) learn that handing the ball to the ref and acting like you've been there before (see Harrison and LT2) is much much much cooler.

Plus I think Henry is the best deep threat of the three. So he brings the most potential for a huge play downfield and Palmer certainly isn't shy about trying to attack defenses downfield. Henry really is ultra-talented in my opinion. If he gets his head screwed on straight he could be a dynamic player in this league.

I'm not a fan of mouthiness or showboating, but I sincerely believe that for some players talking trash helps to keep them focused.

CJ's probably my favorite "talker". What he says is genuinely funny, tends to not come across as malicious, and he's a good player too. I think the Bengals have far greater problems than CJ's mouth.

Hopefully next year around draft time I will remember how much better my 06 campaign would've been if I had gone with Manning or Westy instead of CJ, and will refrain from taking him again, early 2nd rd.

Yes. The guy had 3 games this year in the middle of the season where he went off and piled up a bunch of stats to make it look like he had a good year. He didn't, though. What bugs me the most is in huge games, you see guys like Harrison, Owens, Holt, etc. stepping up and helping their teams win it. Chad Johnson was rarely seen doing anything in a big game this year. He constantly drops easy passes, he fumbles, he's soft IMO, can't pick up any yards after he makes the catch. Plus, I really think he's a team cancer. I used to defend his antics, but I just can't do it anymore. Not after this season.TJ Housmandzadeh and Chris Henry are very good WRs with the potential to be great. I know Chad takes coverage away from them, but I really think they could succeed without him. My only concern is Henry's attitude and the possibility of another arrest. To me, Chad does way more harm than good.

I think the Bengal graphic gives away his fandom, Joe :banned:As a Bengals fan I don't wanna see Chad going anywhere. He talks a lot, it's true, but he's also an extremely hard working player. I haven't exactly noticed him goading the opponents in those 6 weeks without TDs, certainly not to the extent of the last couple of years. I'm more worried that he's been too hard on himself actually - that is something I have noticed from him over the recent games.Hopefully the way this year went down will give him back the chip on his shoulder that he's carried since he was selected in the 2nd round of the draft and he'll be that much more focused. As for Henry, the matchups he got are very much the product of Chad and Housh and the coverage they face. I was glad to see Henry put it together on the field late this year (and actually go a few weeks without getting arrested :football: ) - he can be a big TD guy with that big frame as he improves over time. It's going to be an interesting offseason for my Bengals, that's for sure. I imagine a training camp where Marvin's going to be pounding in sweating the details too them - as this season really was lost on about 100 little details on the field. The off-field stuff's impact really was Odell's suspension (which was huge, especially when coupled with the tragic loss of Pollack to his neck injury). I think it's a lame excuse to see any of the other stuff as factoring into the results on the field this year. Truly.I really can't say that they would've magically put it together in the playoffs if they had qualified - on balance it just doesn't seem realistic to believe that in hindsight. Taking a step back in this case is probably better as given a more forgiving schedule and maybe a bit of an ego-check, I think this team is much more likely to move up again to 11-5 rather than slide back any further.WHO DEY!-QG

You do realize that without Chad Johnson there, TJ and C. Henry would face more difficult coverage and have a harder time being productive, right?

When ESPN stops glorifying touchdown celebrations.

When ESPN stops showing their antics on every SportsCenter, and stops doing commercials with them hearing pitches from ESPN of ideas for the guy's next bit of showboating?

Chad is a great WR, even though he wasn't great in 2006. You get rid of him, you'll see what TJ and Henry are really like getting double coverage and #1 CB coverage., and it won't be pretty

Who cares how much he talks, his work ethic is awesome. Palmer had an off year and they have a lot of good receivers, that's why his numbers were down. I hope he retires here.

This is not a problem of his. He fumbled for the 1st time in the 400+ touch's a game ago.
I guess that kind of stands out in my mind because of how huge of a game it was and how he just got manhandled for the ball. I guess my biggest problems with him are his inability to do anything after the catch, and his no show in the big games this year.

And to the poster saying it "won't be pretty" when TJ and Henry face no. 1 and 2 CBs-- why do you say that? Have you ever seen them try?

LOL at the people trying to skew his stats by picking out select games in which he didn't produce to make him look bad.
i'm not trying to make him look bad. i mean, he's a very good and talented receiver, but he was a no show during the last three and most important games of the bengals season. there's no excuse for that.and, stats aside, the guy is not a complete NFL receiver.

Get to know your audience. I think it is more like "LOL at the guys who blew a 2nd round pick on this guy and expected him to be a consistent WR1." He wasn't, and it is not really even debatable. The end result was a bad season and bitter memories for his FF owners.
