Championship week potential busts... (1 Viewer)

FWP - 0 points in our league. I never would have considered him a potential bust - I think breaking your leg excuses you because that is just HORRIBLE luck.

Teams that were counting on him or T. Holt and H. Ward are probably feeling a little behind already this week.

Who else you guys got as one to look out for as big time busts this week?

I have

M. Barber - Cowboys seem determined to get Romo on track - even if that means throwing the ball the entire 60 minutes untils he gets something going.

R. Moss - With really no reason to play their starters - NE could be up by 2 TD in the first quarter and he may not be out there the rest of the game.

L. Fitzgerald, K. Warner - with nothing left to play for - I have a feeling this team is going to take a dump.

B. Jacobs - ranks as high as #2 in some of the rankings I have seen. This guy is an injury or fumble waiting to happen.

Everyone playing in the Cincy / Cleveland game - I think most owners are banking one this game to be a huge shoot out. But with the potential for bad weather and the emerging running game in Cleveland - this game could be a big let down with long sustained drives ending with a big game just for J. Lewis. Leaving Winslow, Edwards, Anderson and the rest as a dissappointment.

Why these guy - because nearly every one of them are on my team!

Heath Miller (been a solid contributor), to come up completely blank in the SB....bleh. Especially vs. the Rams, and especially when balls were flying all over the field. Bleh^2.

Warner has a job to play for next year, so I am sure he will playing hard. Plus he is playing lowly Falcons.

Maybe I am just hopeful, because he is my QB.

:blackdot:

I don't know if this would be a "big time" bust, but I nominate the Seattle defense. They've been a very solid fantasy unit and they're getting a struggling team, at home, with a rookie QB making his first ever start. That should translate into big numbers... except that it's almost too good. And whenever a fantasy defense seems like a sure thing, they usually wind up being a signifiant disappointment.

There are good reasons for that -- primarily that an offense that's completely overmatched often goes into "keep-it-simple" mode, which can mean low scoring but also little or no turnovers. On top of that, Billick and the Ravens looks like they've quit. Do you really think they're going to let their rookie fling it around and risk getting embarassed? Better to keep it conservative, take your 21-3 loss, slink out of town and look forward to next week when you can pack up and go home.

If your league is heavily based on points or yards allowed, the Seahawks could be great. If you need turnovers and TDs, don't get overly excited.

Is there any player in the NFL you would not say this about?

Is there any outdoor game in the northern part of the country where weather might not be a factor? Is there any team facing a high powered offense that will not try to run the ball to take away time of possession?

Your players may do well, or they may have a bad game. It sucks to have these things go against you during championship week, but others had them happen during the season and never made the playoffs.

Willis McGahee-because the D is going to be all over him

Earnest Graham-Because I cannot believe they would risk him to injury

LT2-See Earnest Graham

Reggie Wayne-See Gram/LT2

Greg Jennings-Wind, Rain, Snow and he's been getting 1-2 deep passes that added to his value

Drew Brees/Marques Colston-The Eagles have shut down Brady/Moss, Romo/Owens. Colston is the slowest of the bunch and the Saints have the weakest pass blocking of the bunch

Hasselbeck/Engram & Branch-See Graham,LT2 and Wayne

This is really a tough week for fantasy purposes, teams playing for a better seed in the playoffs from 4 up to 3 doesn't seem like a good reason to risk a player lost like Willie Parker.

The game is in Cinci. Which is a biscuit away from Kentucky. Seriously, just across the river and there's Kentucky. Hardly the same as Green Bay, Foxborough, or even Chicago. It doesn't get the lake effect stuff that Cleveland or Buffalo might get...I think you see a rebound game from that performance last week at least in terms of the passing game. I'm still think this is going to be a shootout...

This is a very good point. Every coach in the league has seen the footage. Every coach in the league might be a little more willing to yank their guys a little earlier just because that image of Willie getting carted off is prevalent in the backs of their minds...

How was Hines Ward a bust? You take 6 rec for 59 yards, multiple it over the course of a season, and you get 96 catches for 944 rec. yards.

But nice try

Yeah, a bust. If that guy is your #1 WR you aren't going anywhere with those kind of stats....Just because you know how to multiply by 16 doesn't make that a good game.

Indy's also done a great job on #1's, which means that Andre Johnson is likely a decent play this week as opposed to a very good one.

As good as Baltimore's run defense has been, Seattle's has been pretty sound, too, the sixth-best in the league. That makes Willis McGahee merely a borderline start this week.

If hes your No. 1 guy, then your team must be garbage.
Not that bad , but Ward is a legit #2 WR on a good team .

I agree Colin.....I think the only thing the Cowboys are concerned about this week is winning. Period. Some might say staying healthy as well, but it doesn't need to be said yet again that you can't control injuries. I have no idea if the OP has Barber or any of the Cowboys...and it really doesn't matter. We as fantasy fans would like to think that NFL coaches care about getting our particular player(s) a certain amount of touches or PT or "back on track", but in reality all Dallas wants to do this week is win the game whether it is 3-0 or 33-30.

And yes, I am a Romo/TO owner in a SB.

No hes not. I would have Ward as my #3 on a fantasy team, but Holmes is the #1 guy in Pitts, would have been all year minus the hurt hammy. Sure hope you'd have a better #2 then Ward. I dont like Ward as a player, and he was on my team last year... Hes tough and a good route runner, but he wont make spectacular catches, or burn a #1 CB..

Mortal teams may have no need to play their starters but the Pats still have an undefeated season, Rice and Manning's records to beat, the 72 Dolphins to humiliate by proxy, and the Vikings season points record to demolish. I figure Randy is a lock for at least 2 TDs and 100+. Look for the Pats to shoot for all those goals this game.

A little earlier than the second play of the game?I see what you're saying, but at some point I think coaches have learned to accept that injuries happen and that you simply have to go out there and play. Yes, in a blowout a playoff-bound team will rest guys -- that's always been the case. But I don't think you'll see guys coming out after one half if they're healthy. As a wise man once said, "you play... to win... the game".

I was going to post this as well. I'm surprised it took to post #19 to be said...

what about Reggie Wayne? For whatever reason, the Texans own him. He has one 100-yard game and no touchdowns against them in his last five. The last time he scored on Houston? Try 2004.

Lynch and Lewis at RB. Both playing in bad weather and I'd think the opposing DEF will be out to stop the run and make the QBs beat them through the air(unlikely considering the weather).

Lewis ran like an animal in worse weather than predicted this week
All the more reason to gameplan against the run. :yucky:

Thats my point...the weather was so bad neither team could pass...so both teams just concentrated on stopping the run and the bills just could`nt do it...lewis imposed his will on them and ran like a truck...they had the whole team in the box but to no avail....cincy is WORSE defending the run and this week they will be able to throw the ball opening up the running lanes even more. No snow and i`m pretty sure no rain during the game , just cloudy and some wind(25mph).

What about Rivers? He's been inconsistent but had a huge game earlier against Denver. Can he repeat that success this week?

And speaking of QBs, Sage Rosenfels has been a nice late season surprise. Is he startable against Indy?

Drew Brees/Marques Colston-The Eagles have shut down Brady/Moss, Romo/Owens. Colston is the slowest of the bunch and the Saints have the weakest pass blocking of the bunch
You may of just talked me into Warner over Brees. :lmao:
I'm in the same situation but I just can't play Warner with his injury history. Can't risk getting nothing from my QB
Starting Warner has pretty much won me the Championship. Thank you.

I thought about playing Warner this week....instead I went with Anderson....Good call on starting Warner

You're welcome and congrats! :) (But I'm utterly STUNNED the Colts risked both Clark and Wayne to injury in a meaningless game. What if Wayne ended up with a knee? Ugh...)Congrats again.

In hindsight, I cannot hate on FWP as much as I'd like to. Although he laid a gooseegg for me in two championship games (both games I lost by less than 8 points...or well below FWP's weekly average). I would have started either him or McGahee... so the result would have been the same.
