I'm generally curious what the poli forum thinks of renaming Columbus day to Italian heritage day and the date would be march 11th as a federal holiday (honoring those that died during the brutal lynching in New Orleans)
This poll is nonsense and should be removed. Columbus Day has already been replaced for many as "Indigenous Peoples Day" and is less likely to be switched to Italian Heritage Day than the candidate from the Green Party would be elected President in 2024
We should have more holidays that celebrate things and fewer holidays that celebrate people. Juneteenth, Independence Day, Memorial Day, and stuff like that are all great. Columbus Day and MLK Day are good candidates for replacement.

I oppose March 11 solely on the ground that is too close to President's Day and we need to spread the holidays out. They also need to move MLK day from January because we don't need a holiday so soon after the new year. Give us something in say April so we don't have to go like four months between President's Day and Memorial Day.

Yeah, I know. I left out Christmas because it's a weird holiday. As a Christian, I'd be completely okay with treating it like Easter. But I know lots of people enjoy it as secular time for family.
I’m not sure if you are joking and I’m missing it but there is zero chance that Christmas gets eliminated. American Consumerism at its finest - no way corporations let that get messed with.

Given my existing priorities, if I were in a decision making position and this subject was brought to my desk I'd fire the person on the spot. Not sure if hyperbole.

We waste a month of summer in a large part of the country.
Summer should be 4th of July to whatever the Columbus Day holiday is. September is nicer than June in much of the country.
Do we need an Italian heritage day? Do Italian Americans care? Irish Americans seem fine with an Irish religious holiday becoming a drunken free for all.
