LT is awesome at play-by-play commentary.
It's great to hear him break it down. What's with Craig Davis, Maurile?
Last I heard he was going to return some punts tonight, but I haven't seen him in uniform so I don't know.
So he is not starting at WR?
Not tonight evidently, but I don't know what happened.
You're no help whatsoever.
That's what I've been trying to tell you.

Leinart looking as good as the box score indicates? I'm tivo'ing the game and will prob. watch later, just curious.

Based on his & Boldin's pre-season, I'm feeling pretty good about having them on my roster.

Ouch.. Turner carted off. No word why yet.
Did I miss something here?
It was easy to miss. He wasn't carted off the playing field. He was carted from the sideline into the locker room. It happened during a commercial, and when they came back from the break they showed a clip of it. He was sitting on the cart with ice on his ankle and the announcers said they had no idea what the deal was.

The following is my impression of those of us who were hoping to steal Jackson late:

:o :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

Why does this game have to be on national TV?!?!?!

Rivers just got hammered by two DLs. Ouch. Got right up, but it's time to get him (and Gates and Jackson and the rest of the starters) out of there.

OK, I'm starting to think I need to bump up my projections for Vincent Jackson...

Oh yeah, and did I mention that people are sleeping on Rivers? Where's Jeff Paquino? :lmao:

i'm hesitant to draw any conclusions based on a game where LT doesn't play. not that Jackson doesn't look good.

Warner looks really good with the new throwing glove. He's always had trouble holding the ball because of his small hands.

Sproles with another huge gain. 6 rushes for 20 yards and a TD plus 5 catches for 59 yards. He looks like a serious weapon if they can get him the ball in space. I assume the challenge with him would be getting him on the field enough so that the defense doesn't know it's coming to him on a screen or swing pass every time he comes on the field.

I couldn't understand anything Josh Spanos was just saying in that interview because I was fixated on the amount of times that he said "ya know". I wish I could rewind that ish and count.

Also, as good a weapon as Sproles is, he's not a better weapon than Tomlinson. Sproles may get some plays in certain situations when Tomlinson is being rested, but I don't think they'll bring Tomlinson out specifically because they want to use Sproles instead.

John Spanos. He's actually a very bright kid. (I guess he's not really a kid anymore, but I coached him in football and basketball when he was in high school, so I think of him as a kid.)

This kid Trannon is mostly a converted basketball player. Bloom knows I think he has NFL potential. I think he's showing it here late. I hope he makes the team and is given time to develop.

Obviously he isn't as good a weapon as Tomlinson. That said, his speed and elusiveness in the open field is too good not to figure a way to involve him. They are obviously different kinds of players with different strengths, but I'm not convinced that Turner is definitely a better guy to rotate in with Tomlinson than Sproles. I mean, if you're looking to pound the ball, Turner is clearly better... but what I mean is just generally how to spread out the RB touches that don't go to LT. For example, suppose Turner's high ankle sprain kept him out of a couple games. I think Sproles could be a very effective backup, given that they would call different plays for him than Turner.

Enjoyable game. On SD - - I hate the white helmets. V-Jax is a beast. I hope Turner isn't injured seriously; it's amazing that the Chargers have Sproles to step in if he is. How many teams have that kind of depth at tailback?

Craig Davis may have missed a chance to shine here, but I guess with Parker out he's definitely the #2. I think the Bolts' D looks improved.

I didn't get to see the game.... was the Chargers' offense that good? Or was the Cardinals' defense that bad? 265 yards in the first half... without Tomlinson? That seems insane.

Firstly I'd like to again agree with a previous poster who does not like the white helmets. I'm fine with the rest of the changes to the uniforms, but the white helmets suck. For the actual game, two things:Phil is going to destroy people this season. He looks razor sharp. He's got much improved weapons with Jackson and Davis starting, Floyd being available for WR 3. I think the sky's the limit for this offense. Which is good news because:The Charger secondary will not allow them to win it all. It pains me to say it, and I realize that here in preseason the defense has been vanilla with no blitzes and no stunts - which tends to put more pressure on the DBs as the QB has more time to throw than they normally would. But you can't depend on extreme pressure on every play and these DBs don't seem to be able to handle coverage without it. I mean it's the third preseason game and Jammer is still blowing coverages. I HATE QUENTIN JAMMER. From the Union Trib:

“You can do things like that in preseason; you can't do it in the regular season,” said cornerback Quentin Jammer, woefully out of position on an 80-yard touchdown pass from Leinart to Anquan Boldin. “You have to be in the right place, and I wasn't in the right place.”
No #### Quentin - let me know when you are in the right place. Hopefully that means on someone else's roster. I mean it's only been 6 years for Toast Jr. Add to that, Florence and Cromartie were getting beat one on one and I think it's going to be a long season for that secondary again. Something needs to change there, be it personnel or coaching, but the excuses at this point as to why this has not been addressed sufficiently don't make sense any more.Simply put, I'd look forward to starting QBs and Receivers against the Chargers this year in FF. Their games could be high scoring affairs.

I wouldn't read anything at all into the preseason performance, but assuming for the sake of argument that the DBs will stink again this year, I still don't think it's fair to say the team hasn't addressed the issue. It's a bit like saying the Lions haven't addressed WR. Charles Rogers and Mike Williams both sucked, but at least the Lions tried to get some talent there. (Maybe Weddle and Cromartie will be our Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson.)The Chargers' top three corners are a first-rounder, a first-rounder, and a second-rounder. The departed Sammy Davis was also a first-rounder. Weddle and Kiel were second-rounders. (And Weddle carried a first-round grade with the Chargers.)

It may be bad scouting or it may be bad coaching, or both, but the team has spent a lot of high draft picks on the secondary in the last few years.
