THIS from USA Today...just embarrassing...

Chargers get extension to sell remaining playoff tickets

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers received a 24-hour extension from the NFL in an attempt to sell the final 500 tickets for Sunday's playoff game against Tennessee and lift the local TV blackout.

The Chargers have until 1:30 p.m. Friday to sell the remaining tickets.

Chargers COO Jim Steeg said he was surprised the game hadn't yet sold out, since every regular-season game did. He said a number of factors were involved, including the holidays and the fact that the Chargers were 7-5 when ticket invoices were sent out.

Prices range from $110 to $135.

Steeg said no companies have approached the Chargers about buying the remaining tickets in order to lift the blackout.

If the NFL can force the 16-0 game surely they can get this on the air, right? Afterall, the Chargers are going to end up rolling the patsies and go to the SB anyways.

People probably saw the Titans play last week and didn't want to have to see something like that in person.

What is the purpose of the blackout rule? By not showing the game in the home market all the league is doing is eliminating a high number of eyes to see the tv advertisements. Most of the money in the league is determined by TV and not attendence. This is an old rule from the years ago before the NFL Really took off. Why do they still have it in place, who benefits from it?

I'm not sure, but the stadium has advertisers too. They pay a lot of money have their names plastered all of the stadium and I'm sure that price would come down drastically if they changed this rule. Not to mention concession, and I'm sure they make a ton of profit off those game-day programs they sell. Why lift the rule when you can force the best of both.

For what it's worth, I saw a news report this morning saying it was 350 single tickets that were left available. Not saying that's a good excuse or anything, but it was nice to hear a concrete number and at least semi-explanation of the situation.

Tampa hasn't sold out yet either. The tickets left on Ticketmaster are pricey as all hell, $350 a pop for second level.

A ridiculous price for an unscalped ticket.

My buddy is a die hard Charger season ticket holder and I was razzing him about this yesterday. He said the major problem was that season ticket folks had to reserve tix by like 12/3 or something and that Chargers marketing dept. did a bad job promoting bc he never got an email or letter or anything.

So his theory is a lot of folks didn't know in time for the reservation deadline, and that the general public at first just assumed the game was sold out so didn't try to get tix.

I'd imagine now that the non-sellout is getting some print, it should sell out quickly. (Unless his theory is hogwash.)

They will all be sold. They sell out all of the regular season games and they will sell out all the playoff games. There is a huge storm moving through CA and Californians generally don't like the cold and rain. You live in great weather most of the year and you get spoiled.

that's insane to think about when you watch the GB game and there are women in bikini's in the stands while it's snowing. Suck it up charger fans.

I'm sure they are quite content not living in Green Bay or Pittsburgh.I don't see the big deal. They will all be sold. Chargers fans are generally more laid back. It's just the way the city is.

Green Bay women in bikinis is definitely insane. :towelwave:

I wish it was like that here in NE - I could've scored some tix to a game whose final participants aren't even determined yet.

Just posted this in the Jacksonville thread:

The Steelers have made a few tickets available (about 1500) for sale via ticketmaster to tomorrow night's playoff game. The tickets became available because of returns from the Jaguars.

A buddy of mine at work is pumped because he was able to buy tickets to a Steelers game for the first time since 2001.

I just cheked TM -- the tickets are already gone...

Another problem at this point is that you can get basically the same tickets via stub hub, etc. for 1/3 the price as what they're being offered via the Chargers/Ticketmaster. I just checked and all that's left via ticket master in quantities of 2 or greater are club or worse level seats, the cheapest at $295 each behind the endzone. Similar tickets are going for about $100 on the brokers, and I've even found some field level seats (obstructed because they're so close to the field that the players/coaches on the sideline might get in the way) for $107.

It's going to be tough to sell the remaining tickets to the general public.

Pats sold out in less than ten minutes this morning.
Great fans up in New England :thumbup:
Funny how some states (NY, CA, PA, TX) can support 2 or 3 teams, while the Pats need 4 states to support 1 team :wall:
Switz, I would demand a refund on those geography lessons.
How's that? Are you not sure where some cities are located, or do you not know what NE means? BTW that's New England, not just Mass.NY = Bills, Jets, Giants

CA = Chargers, 49ers, Raiders

PA = Steelers, Eagles

TX = Cowboys, Texans

NE (Mass, NH, VT, CT, maybe throw ME in there too) all are supposed to support the Patriots....

Who needs geography lessons? If you need some help...

But don't worry New Englanders, Carolina needs two states to support their team

That is true... Meadowlands are in NJ. So remove NY form the list... you've still got PA, TX, and CA

RI is also pretty much 100% crazy Pats/Sox fans, so you definitely need to add that to the Pats fan base. However, SD might still have a greater potential base in terms of area and population (don't forget part of Mexico right near SD). I believe the next closest NFL team is the Cardinals, 355 miles away. The distance between Boston (proxy for Foxborough) and New York is less than 225 miles.

oof, the tickets here have been a minor windfall for season ticket holders.

*Maybe* throw in Maine? Well since it is part of New England, yes you should. Might want to add Rhode Island while you are at it. :popcorn:Chill, dude. You made a post in haste and forgot there were 4 and not 6 states in NE. Was just having a bit of fun with you. But trust me, as a Pats fan I don't have the slightest inferiority complex that the team "needs" 6 states to support it. Fan support is hardly an issue for the franchise.

Now. It wasn't always like that. More fans come with success. It's always been that way.

Oh yes, obviously, I wouldn't argue otherwise. Was speaking more the current times. Believe me, I remember as a kid every home game was blacked out and I was forced to watch Giants games. And I don't think there was anything more boring to watch than those Parcells-Simms-OtisAnderson Giants teams. :mellow:

Chargers fans can relax: The team announced today that enough tickets had been sold to lift the local blackout for Sunday's AFC wild-card playoff game between the Chargers and Titans. The game will be televised live on KFMB Channel 8 at 1:30 p.m.

A limited number of Club Level and other single seats remain available for sale at the Chargers' ticket office at Gate C at Qualcomm Stadium, at Chargers.com or through Ticketmaster.

:lmao: Actually, New England also includes Rhode Island. So that makes a total of six. Four of which (ME, NH, VT & RI) have millions upon millions of residents each - at least that is what I have been told.

Sad thing is Ms. South Carolina probably believes that!!I have a friend who moved here from Vt, and when he says I'm from Vermont, he's had quite a few people ask which state that's in... he should just say "New England" as they probably think it's a state.
