Charles Johnson - starting LDE in Carolina? (1 Viewer)

I've just heard this recently. It's been widely known Carolina wanted to move Peppers to the right side. Any truth to it? If so what can we expect as far as FF goes from Johnson?

I think the starting job is up for competition between Johnson, McClover, and Brayton.

I do have Johnson on my large 14 team dynasty squad, so I hope it is his job.

Tyler Brayton will man the strong-side on rushing downs and Johnson will enter on passing downs.
Those were my thoughts, if Johnson shows any effectiveness against the run he may take those over but I doubt he'll be given the role from week 1. At least all that's standing in his way is Tyler Brayton, he's awful.

Where's Chaos Commish?
:potkettle: I expect Peppers to stay on the left side. I expect the numbskulls there to dilly dally around with the other DE position. Johnson is not only a better pass rusher than Brayton, but he's better against the run. Remember, I always qualified my praise by stating Big Bully needed a little time. Maybe a year was enough.
"We look at a lot of things in the offseason," coach John Fox said. "You never stay the same, whether it's personnel or even schemes, offense, defense or special teams. We're going to try him at right a little bit. We had Mike Rucker there ever since we've had Julius. That's changed now, so we're just taking a look at him over there." Fox wouldn't say if the move is permanent. "He might end up back on the left," Fox said. "I can't even answer that at this point. But we are taking a look at it because he is a natural left-hand stance guy (since he's left-handed). We'll see how that goes."

any updates on Johnson and his potential for taking over full time at DE?
Still behind Brayton at LE, who has been playing better than most expected. Brayton is signed through 2009, but I think it'll be hard for him to hold off Johnson next year, should Johnson prove he can play the run this offseason. I wouldn't expect any change in the current arrangement this season unless there's an injury, however.
