Charles Johnson - WR Grand Valley State (1 Viewer)

They're going to pound the ball as much as they can (game providing). If they fall behind, Teddy will have to throw it more but I don't see his hype panning out like it sounded.

As a dynasty owner, I really am hoping for a turnaround.

Dropped in my league. anyone been watching games? any hope for a turnaround here?

so much hype faded so quickly. i saw glimpses last year. haven't seen a vikings game this year.
I dropped him for Dion Lewis. I bought into the hype before the season but it's not translating on the field. The Vikings are being very conservative with their offense. Maybe that changes as the season goes on but right now the offense is all about Peterson with a little bit of Rudolph and Wallace in the passing game. Even Jarius Wright is getting downfield looks before Johnson right now. Johnson has been an afterthought to this point.

ETA - Johnson would be a great example of how meaningless snap counts can often be. I believe he's on the field more than any other Minnesota WR but it does not translate to targets or significant involvement in the passing game.

He's out on my WW. I'm super-thin at WR, so I may pick him up on a prayer, but only because I have the roster spot (grabbed Starks when Lacy got hurt, but it now appears Lacy will play).

How do the Vikes manage to suck us into a WR sleeper every single year?

I fell for the Charles Johnson hype. Someone has to catch the passes right? Wallace seems to be a head case so the WR to own in Minny has to be Johnson.

Shows what I know. This guy is getting cut from my roster soon if he does not get more involved.

:sadbanana: so much promise... so little benefit thus far. I'm holding for lack of anything better. I think he'll get his this year, but points could be few and far between.

Watched some of each game. Bridgewater isn't even looking his way. It's not like he looks his way and then goes elsewhere, he's not even looking his way.

He's getting the Calvin Johnsons treatment going on 2 weeks now.

He was my wr3. He's on the bench until he shows something. But drop him? For the fodder on the waiver wire? Not for a good long while yet.

What do you mean by the Calvin Johnson treatment? Double and triple teams?

For me after 2 games hes on the bench but he gets three games before I drop him. If there was a great WW guy I would be tempted. What I did was pick up Desean Jackson after he was dropped and put him on the IR spot in out league. Allows me to keep Johnson and once Desean Jackson come back I can either drop Johnson OR Jackson. I am not the biggest D Jackson fan but he puts up numbers even if its not every week.

Holding and hoping for something this week. I'll probably still hold him until week 5 anyway but if he's still putting up duds at that point, off with his head.

This has to be his year! Finally started to live up to all the hype and train conducting of the past few years then...

I think the Vikings O is going to get into a groove in the coming weeks. Too bad Teddy B can only throw the ball 40 yards deep though. Kind of puts a damper on him.

Did you not see the 55 yard pass in the air that was right on the money to Wallace? It got broken up, but only by interference that wasn't called (and it was a good defensive play). Teddy has the arm and skill to hit the deep ball when needed.

Monster 1/9 yard effort today. Droppable in all formats and it is suggested that this thread be deleted and his name never be invoked again.

Went out with a rib injury but totally worthless in this offense.

Johnson got injured drawing a long pass interference penalty. He caught 1-of-2 targets for nine yards before departing, with the missed connection being an interception Teddy Bridgewater forced into tight coverage in the end zone.

Yeah, I totally whiffed on this guy. Was sure he would be Teddys #1 target. Dropping in redraft. May drop in dynasty depending on who is out there.

Also, there is the issue that it doesn't appear Teddy's top target is even something that has much fantasy value. This isn't a very good passing offense.

Yeah, I expected big things from Bridgewater this year and its just not there. Dropping Johnson this week almost more for that reason than CJ himself.

Tough to see these stat lines. I'm not dropping in dyno but would definitely drop in short bench redrafts.
this is my thinking. i'm not quite ready to throw in the towel yet because there was something there last year. however, in redraft? cut and move along if you haven' already. dynasty? depending on your roster limits and bench, you could hold onto him a little longer to see if there is anything. i keep thinking teams will figure out the offense, try to stop Peterson and make Teddy beat you through the air. I am also reminded that the only thing that stops Peterson is a court order.

Rotoworld:

Charles Johnson (ribs) says he was "close" to suiting up for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Johnson didn't, and Stefon Diggs had another huge game in his absence, likely pushing Johnson to the bench, at least in three-receiver sets. We love Johnson's play-making ability, but he hasn't been the same player he was in 2014. He's not a must hold in 12-team leagues.

I'm still convinced the future of this team at WR is Diggs, Johnson, Wright. If CJ and Stefon are both healthy and on the field at the same time with Wallace it could really open some things up.

I guess we will see if Johnson and Diggs split time at X or not. I could see Diggs playing at slot but Wright is very good there as well and at this point perhaps better at the kind of routes the Vikings want the slot receiver to run.

Is Johnson better than Wright? I am not sure I see Johnson, Diggs and Wallace being a better combination than Diggs, Wright and Wallace.

Bridgewater's fantasy relevance seemed non-existent several weeks ago. His stats are looking better but I haven't seen him play. Is the improvement a result of Diggs emergence, WRs getting healthier, or just teams selling out to stop AP? Trying to figure out if Bridgewater's half-decent week was a mirage or the first signs of a trend.

KC and Denver both sold out to stop Peterson. KC was better at this than Denver, but both stopped him for the most part.

The Vikings are currently on pace to run 982 offensive plays which is well below average. The Vikings had 981 and finished 28th in the league in this category last season. Right now only the Rams have run fewer offensive plays than the Vikings.

Last season the Vikings threw the ball 53% of their offensive plays not counting sacks which were 51. This season the Vikings have thrown on 146 of their 307 plays (47.5%) which is the same number of rushing attempts they have, sacks are 15 which is the other 5%

Even though the Vikings have Peterson back I still would expect them to throw the ball more than they run moving forward and end up with a split more similar to last season than this even split they have so far.

Vikongs are 31st in attempts and dead last in NYPA. 3 TDs / 4 INT. One game with more than 250 yards.

Maybe I'm missing something. I like Diggs over Hohnson but the situation is suboptimal.

I think Johnson has a higher ceiling than Wright.
He has a Higher ceiling than a lot of current NFL wide receivers but may not get there. As of now it's doubtful he does much with the Vikings.
why? Because it appears that they are'nt going to throw much or because he's been out with an injury? Or is it because Diggs has emerged to the point where we're all anointing him the starting X receiver in this offense? It's possible that Johnson has been supplanted by Diggs. My contention is it's too early to make that assumption. I think this whole offense is struggling with the offensive line and needing to force-feed Peterson the ball. Quite simply this offense looked better last year without Peterson then it does this year with him.

I don't think we know what the Minnesota offense is going to look like based on the first five games of the year. I also don't know what Johnson is going to look like when he comes back from his injury but I'm not going to project out Diggs as a super stud and Johnson as the odd man out just quite yet.

Charles Johnson caught 1-of-2 targets for 21 yards in the Vikings' Week 7 win over the Lions.

Johnson's 21-yard catch was a big one deep down the middle, but he played limited snaps behind Mike Wallace, Stefon Diggs, and Jarius Wright. Johnson is now the No. 4 receiver in Minnesota.
