Charles Rogers is gone (1 Viewer)

Wouldn't hurt the Niners to give him a shot. Battle is about as dependable as Rogers is....

Speaking of MSU, was Saban still the coach for the Spartans when CR was there? I don't think the Phins really need him, but a possible connection....
I believe it would be Bobby Williams who recruited Rogers since he started as MSU's coach for the 2000 season (which is when Rogers graduated HS). Saban left to coach LSU after the 1999 season.
Bobby Williams is currently the running backs coach under Saban for the Miami Dolphins. So the connection is there.

he might have to start buyin the cheap weed or invest in a roach clip or something
Who picks this guy up?
Me! His price will never be cheaper. So I snagged him off the waiver wire and he will sit at the end of my bench for a bit. Someone WILL pick him up on the chance that a change of scenery (and maybe the realization that he is not bigger than the game) will do him good.I would rather have a player of his ability and one who I know will get a serious look from another team at the end of my bench than a no name person barely on a roster.

I picked him up as well. Basically for the same reason you posted.

I think him feeling wanted by a franchise could help him. If not, so long, farewell, hope you enjoyed your stay.

"September 2, Saginaw News: Charles Rogers no longer has to [deal with this losing franchise]. He no longer has to have the coach tell him he'll get his chance, and then sit on the sidelines while rookie free agents, who cannot secure a pass on the field, can secure a roster spot with hard work and determination.

Nope. He gets to go somewhere else, anywhere else, and have it better. "

I wonder if Rogers is bright enough to figure this out now.

I saw Rod Marinara on TV last night. He stated "I have talked to Charles on numerous occasion about practicing hard, running hard routes. Charles just would not or could not do it, it was very hard to keep him focused through an entire practice. I can`t possibly play him in front of guys who are doing what we ask. Charles "may" go on and succeed in this league, but the best thing for this football team is to get rid of the players who won`t work."

There's a lively thread on the Dolphins MB in which Drew Rosenhaus claims that the Phins ARE interested in Charles Rogers, FWIW.http://www.finheaven.com/boardvb2/showthread.php?t=157350

why does this not surprise me. saban in his short time has proven to want and sign these schmos... marcus vick, ricky crackpipe, dan wilkinson, randy mcmichael (was on team already but with many domestic issues), david boston, etc etc etc. this will prove to cost him. squish the fish!!!!!

The main problem in getting Rogers any where is teams don't want to deal with Rosenjhous. there were rumors that Bears were interested in rogers. They already have 2 Rosenhaus players that skipped mini camps to hold out for more. (thoma Jones and LB Lance Briggs). As Jovan Walker how good Drew did for him at green bay.

If Rogers changes agent and looks at this as a wake up call, he could be a great WR.

But really isn't this all just the same talk we have done year after year? Peter Warrick, Koran Robinson, David Terell, Lilie, Dez White, David Boston and I am sure there are more.

Guys with talent who just don't get it.

Drew Rosenhaus is definatly going to effect teams desire to go and get Charles Rogers. I agree with you and I believe that is why the GBP have not chosen to pursue Rogers. Rosenhaus "miami mafia" ties have proven to be too much for them in the past.

Past Rosenhaus Packer clients are as follows:

Javon Walker, Najah Davenport, Grady Jackson, Mike McKenzie.

See the trend? I am sure there are other teams following suit as well.

What does Rosenhaus have to do with Rogers? His agent is Poston.
CorrectANN ARBOR, Mich. -- This is not what the Detroit Lions or Charles Rogers had in mind when the wide receiver was drafted second overall three years ago.

After being cut Saturday, his career in Detroit ended with just 36 receptions for 440 yards and four touchdowns along with two broken collarbones and a four-game suspension.

First-year coach Rod Marinelli was unimpressed by Rogers' work ethic and production during training camp, when he was slowed by a sore knee. The new staff also did not have a history with Rogers like team president Matt Millen, who drafted the former Michigan State star and gave him a $14.2 million signing bonus.

Rogers simply wasn't deemed good enough to make Marinelli's team, which is valuing hard work over talent.

"We picked the men that are right for this football team," Marinelli said. "It's behind us. I wish him the very best. We just move on."

Marinelli said Rogers didn't show up Saturday morning at the team's practice facility in Allen Park. Marinelli said director of pro personnel Sheldon White left two messages for Rogers and informed his agent, Kevin Poston, of the team's decision.

"Maybe this is just one of those wrong-place, wrong-time things," Millen told the Associated Press on Saturday night. "I was a big fan of Charles when I drafted him, and I still am. He just needs to decide to use all of his skills."

Poston said he can start finding a new home for the receiver Sunday if he is not picked up on waivers with his current contract.

"After 24 hours we will start contacting teams and I'm sure teams will be contacting us," Poston said. "He's a 25-year-old receiver with a lot of talent."

Messages seeking comment were left on Rogers' cell phone.

In 2003, the Lions and Rogers agreed to a six-year contract -- with a team option for a seventh season -- that could've been worth almost $55 million.

Detroit drafted Rogers one year after taking quarterback Joey Harrington, the No. 3 pick overall, envisioning the duo leading it to success. Since winning the 1957 NFL title, the Lions have won only one playoff game.

Rogers was cut five months after Harrington was traded to Miami for a conditional 2007 pick.

I guess he may be my last cut (have to get to 24 by Wed).

Not one team has put in a waiver claim for Charles Rogers.

He'll probably get another chance, but should be dropped in all dynasty leagues. Rogers was cut by Detroit on Saturday.
