I'm a bit surprised he hasn't resurfaced yet. Have we heard the last of him or does someone give him a chance this year?

I recall he ran a 4.8 in an audition for a recent team. Too bad the guy had all the promise in the world but is a mere afterthought.

Smoke the hooch, get the munchies.

Seriously though, as high a prospect as he was nobody will give him a shoot?

There must be more to the story that what we hear.

What do you mean? How much more of the story do you need. He is an unmotivated person who was not willing to work after he got a ton of guaranteed money. He remains unwilling to work. Thus no one is interested.

He worked out for several teams last year after DET cut him, and at least KC this year. No point in giving him a shot if his speed and skills have declined to the point it's not worth the baggage and the 1-year suspension he'll get the next time he fails a drug test.

Unbelievable how much money the Lions wasted on two WRs they drafted.
I can see the Williams argument, but Charles Rogers was a monster in college. Size, speed, he had it all. But apparently he lacked one thing . . . motivation. Wasted talent.

I'm honestly surprised it doesn't happen more often to these guys. They come out of college and sign for a boatload of money, including most of the time a double digit signing bonus in millions, I would think more of them would become fat and lazy and just not care.

He's working with Barlow. Barlow flips the burgers, Rogers handles the fries. I hear Mike Williams is going to work the drive through.

How much longer before this guy is debated with Ryan Leaf as the biggest draft bust ever? Both drafted in the same spot, but Leaf actually played in about twice as many games.

I think that part of the stigma with Leaf is three-fold:1.) The debate pre-draft b/n Leaf & Manning. And now Leaf will always be compared to Manning, which is quite a reference point.2.) The Chargers traded so much to move up to draft him, it raises expectations.3.) He's a QB - always leads to higher expectations.Charles Rogers doesn't have the same benchmark (Manning) to constantly be compared to or quite as high of expectations (due to being a WR vs. QB) and the Lions didn't make a pro-active move to get him, so he just sucks in absolute terms.

Mike Williams wasn't a monster in college??

Not the year before he was drafted :goodposting:

Rogers also will have the injuries as an excuse which Leaf doesn't. he was a high pick, but in a watered-down class. His close comp, Andre Johnson, isn't exactly lighting the world on fire en route to the Hall of Fame.

The buzz at the Combine involves some former Lions.

The word on wide receiver Charles Rogers is that his workouts for teams got worse, not better, after being released on the final cut of 2006. Rogers worked out for Miami, Tampa Bay and New England last year, without being signed.

He had a workout for the Kansas City Chiefs in January and apparently flopped miserably, with a time in the range of 4.8 seconds for the 40-yard dash.

Rogers had a recorded time of 4.28 before the 2003 draft. Why a receiver who once had sprinter’s speed now runs like a defensive lineman is a mystery.

Don't crucify me because I am not saying this will happen but this is sort of the case of why you do not trade a really good proven NFL player for a pick to get that can't miss prospect. Sometimes they miss....
