Check in if you're staying home New Year's (1 Viewer)

Had a couple IPAs and already thinking about heading to bed.  The kid said he wanted to game until midnight so I will probably retire to the bedroom and pass out watching a movie.

Smoked a boston butt today and had a couple of friends come over for board games.  About to settle in and watch the rest of the Witcher.  Bourbon is going strong.
I just bought some Maker's Mark.

I shall soon smoke a J.

Witcher is on my watch list.

Games? Anyone feel like DM'ing some AD&D? I got a dwarf Beguiler that plays a mean horn. 🤪

Way ahead of you on point numbero dos.

The Witcher is good, but something that takes a few too many episodes to get into for a night like tonight.

5 kids. It's movies and bed time.

The last new year we really cerebrated was probably 2000.

Both my daughters were home from school for the holidays.  Eldest went back to LA yesterday to spend NYE with her friends.  Youngest doesn't go back until next Sunday but went out with friends.

Staying home tonight.

I have to work a full day tomorrow. Going to have a gin or 2, finish season 2 of Fleabag and go to bed well before midnight.

Happy New Year to you all.

Chillin'. Having a Tito's.  Ordered some great Pad Thai.  Going to open a nice bottle of wine.  Then see what's on.  Wished I would have saved half the season of Righteous Gemstones but binged last night.  So good.

Made a nice pasta dish. Polished off a bottle of wine. Dropped a cool $2.17 to rent Ad Astra from Redbox. No way we leave the house. Will have a Lunesta chaser and be out by 10:00.

Checking in. Hope everyone has a lovely evening, out or in. I'll be missing all hours, including both amateur and professional.

We stay in every year. Playing monopoly with the kids. Having a couple beers will watch the east coast New Years (we are in Midwest) then call it a night.

Homebodies here. Beer, smoked pork, a little pot, some mead and champagne at midnight....we're enjoying sitting here with Seacrest in the background as we reminisce about the ending decade. I wouldn't have it any other way tonight.

I am a little better than you. Last time I celebrated New Year's was 2003 and not changing this year.

probably will watch The Aeronauts and then head to bed

Mom and bro came over to visit and have gone back to my aunt's. No nap for me today. Will be in bed before midnight. Happy new decade everyone.

Late afternoon Star Wars movie (awesome) with the Mrs...casual seafood dinner out ...home to watch the Blackhawks win.  Now a few minutes of the awkward countdown stuff in NYC on TV before heading to bed (to sleep, since wife is still fighting a cold).

Watched 3 movies with the kids (Wonder Park, The Grinch and Spiderman Far From Home). Played board games. Drank a couple beers. Best New Year's Eve I've had in awhile.

Finished a 4 pack of the Old Ox Brewery (local Virginia brewery) winter ale.  So the Barbara Walters 20/20 jokes are definitely not funny anymore.

Stayed in as we normally do and I did Surf and Turf on the grill.

Finished a 2017 Bourbon County with my adult son then washed it down with a $7 champagne and watched an Austin City Limits repeat.

Life is good. Hug your loved ones.

Happy New Year!

Finished out the last two episodes of season 2 of Lost in Space with the family followed by a few rounds of Apples to Apples Junior. Wild night in the Sonoran Desert.

Watched the NYC countdown on some live feed on internet.  They didn't even show the ball drop (???).  Let the kids watch then put them to bed, then went and laid in bed and fell asleep.  Woke up to fireworks at midnight, they went on until 1am or so.  The wife was out with friends.  Next year we might get a babysitter or it'll be "my turn".  Doubt I'll last until midnight though haha.

Had four other couples over, each with girls close in age to our ~2 year old daughter, starting at about 4:30. Made shrimp, veggies/chips, meat/cheese plate, pigs in a blanket, crostinis, and a really awesome cold tortellini salad. Others brought desserts. Had plans to order a couple pizzas but it was completely unnecessary. Plenty of drinks.

Ended up being a ton of fun...all the kids were great, which was a shock. Everyone was gone by 9, kid sleeping and apartment cleaned by 9:30, and then I basically dozed my way to midnight. One of the better NYEs I've had.
We ran this whole thing back again this year, with mostly the same menu. Wife and I made it up until about 1230 after some fun time.

At about 2am my wife wakes up and starts puking her guts out. Hit me an hour later. The next 12 hours were pure misery. Thankfully it only affected us and was seemingly the shrimp since we hit that way harder than anyone else.

Thank god my in laws are less than an hour away and came and scooped up the kid at 9am and took her for most of the day. Of course she woke up at 545 that morning. Those few hours were impossible with us trading off bathroom runs and watching her. I don’t think we would have survived the whole day like that.

Finally feeling back to normal today. Needless to say, we won’t be hosting anything next year.

Here is our 'traditional' New Years Eve:

Chinese take out

Complaining about red necks shooting off fireworks

being asleep by 11 PM.
