The Arizona Republic confirms a Profootballtalk.com report that Edgerrin James wants the Cardinals to cut him.

Through his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, James requested his release. "He’s in the prime of his career and he wants to contribute," Rosenhaus said laughably. Edge is reportedly hoping the team spares him "the indignity of standing on the sidelines." The Cards took a hard-line stance with Anquan Boldin this past offseason and are likely to do the same in this situation.

I know his agent said it but I laughed out loud when I read it.

Outside of Hightower's 100 yard game, James has outperformed him. I'd be upset too. And no, James is not in his prime, but in his defense that O-line can't run block for ####. Put him on the Giants and I can assure you, James would look 5 years younger.

Edge has nobody but himself to blame for his situation. He could have stayed in Indy and won a superbowl ring but no. He wanted more money.

Does anyone know the last time the Cards had a real, prime, reliably, yearly, NFL top tier RB???

Was it OJ Anderson? Not kidding there.

:bag: He was all about the money. IMO, he still is all about the money. He knows that he's getting cut at the end of the year, and wants to get cut now so that he can try to showcase himself a little more, fool some team and try to sign one last decent deal. But the guy is toast. He has zero burst and no wiggle. Yes the Cards' run blocking is pretty bad, but James isn't good for much more than trying to find a hole and plowing forward for 3 yards. Asking for your release when a team is paying you $5M for the season and looks to finally be making the playoffs is very

IMO, James has never been a class act. I remember when he was complaining about his incentive laden contract. Didn't like the fact he had to reach milestones to get bonuses and just felt he deserved the money but also acted like he didn't sign the contract too.

His agent also said that he's had a Hall of Fame career. A good career, for sure, but a HOF career? No.

That is just agent talk. If he pimps him as a HoF back who is still in his prime, can you imagine how much money they would be asking for, if James were to become a free agent?

can't imagine what it is like to be around this guy in the locker room......getting paid big bucks.....should be leader.....you are 7-3 and winning your division......and he is going to cry about not playing.....I expect stuff like that on a 13 year old team....not from a professional....

what a ####ty teammate.......

From today's AZ Republic. Whiz is winning over alot of fans with how he doesn't equate a guys salary with playing time.

For the rest of this season, that means James serving as a backup. James declined comment on Thursday beyond saying "I'm just in here working and doing what I'm supposed to do."That's what Whisenhunt expects."Edgerrin, I'm sure, is unhappy," he said. "I understand that. But that happens a lot in the NFL. That happens a lot in life. The mark of being a professional is continuing to work and we expect Edgerrin to be a professional. That's what he's been."

That is the NFL..the Cowboys win and TO is #####ing about not getting the ball.1. NFL RBs and WRs want to start2. NFL RBs and WRs want to get the ball and be a star.3. If the team wins..that is cool too.

He could win a Super Bowl ring this year but he'd rather be released.
Hit the brakes a little. Anybody could do anything but this year it is not in the cards. Okay, sorry about that. But honestly, Arizona is a fine team, but they are not SB champions. On a side note, let the agent talk. Just trying to get more money and more PT. I agree though, this is the last thing ARI wants to deal with. Leinart in the background already is enough. Now they have to hear Edge.

I'm not saying they will win, but you can't say for sure they won't win. You have a crystal ball or something?A year ago today, the Giants were 7-3 (with plenty of question marks) before losing in Week 12 to the Vikings to drop to 7-4, and everyone was talking about the Pats undefeated season (11-0 and counting), and that the Cowboys (9-1) and the Packers (9-1) were the class of the NFC.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Cardinals win in the Superbowl over the 18-0 Titans.

To be so presumptious as to say they don't have a chance like it's a fact is just asinine.

I did say anybody could do anything, as you point out with the Giants. The problem is the likelihood of that happening. How did the Giants do it last year? GREAT Defense, I don't see the cards with a shut down defense like the Steelers, Giants or Ravens have.

But the Cards could do it like the Rams did in 1999. Just score, score, score....It's not out of the question. The one thing the Rams had for them that year that the Cards don't is the Rams had HFA throughout and thus played in domes in January and Feb.....Not sure the greatest show on turf could've competed in the Meadowlands in Feb....

Worst part of this for him , is that he is the best Rb on this team by far .

Hightower had one decent game since he started and his avg ypc is terrible .

THT is strictly a short yardage back and he wont take the Cards anywhere .

If Edge is patient he will be leading the Cards in the playoffs.

I remember Johnny Johnson fondly as a member of the Cards. Seriously. He was a Pro-Bowler while there.

They have a pretty tough schedule down the stretch. But as of now, they are one game back of a bye and if things fall right, hfa. I'm not sure how the tiebreak works, but I would think if they beat the Giants this week, they would be only one game back of them and I would think they would hold that tiebreak. It's certainly not inconceivable that the Cards host the NFC Championship game. I wouldn't bet on it, but it also wouldn't shock me.

Plus, the Cardinals do not have a Marshall Faulk at RB, nor a really good defense (Rams were 6th in defense that season, which is often overlooked).

The Rams D was very mediocre that year. But with all the points scored by the O, the other teams were in catchup mode all game and the D feasted. The D was fresh all game and playing pass D all game....It's not like Demarco Farr and Todd Light are going to be considered for the HOF....

Funniest comment today by Aikman - and there have been many - was that Edge was moved to 2nd team midseason but handled it like a pro (or something to that effect). I'm glad to see Warner and Fitz and Boldin going to the Super Bowl, but I actually wish Arizona had cut Edge so he could be sitting at home watching this team in the Bowl.
