He was in awe at the speed of the game.
Did you sit down with him after the game for tea and biscuits, and he just felt like opening up to you?
Wow, nice sarcasm!THE NEWS
Panthers rookie running back DeAngelo Williams has had two major mental lapses in training camp so far, according to ESPN.com. First, Williams has repeatedly fumbled during the opening days of camp, which is the worst thing a young back can do. Second, in a half-speed drill earlier this week, Williams cut-blocked a defensive lineman, which earned him tongue-lashing from five-year veteran tackle Kris Jenkins.
OUR VIEW
This news does not surprise us as Williams needs to become acclimated to the speed of the NFL game. It should be noted that these are the exact reasons that Panthers offensive coordinator Dan Henning doesn't like playing rookies. Williams needs to stop fumbling, start blocking correctly, and learn the offense before he will be an effective all-around back in the NFL. For now, it appears DeShaun Foster has a pretty tight grip on the starting job in Carolina.
Also, when Williams was interviewed after the game, he thought he went much further than he had. He got three yards and remarked how much "longer" NFL yards are than in college.
