Chicago Bears 2012 Offseason Thread (3 Viewers)

Chicago has to sign Eddie Royal now. The 2008 Broncos...I mean 2012 Bears
Ya know? That's not a bad idea at all. Eddie Royal had a good rookie season. Good call. Maybe da Bears would use that first pick on a guy like Cordy Glenn and give Cutler time to throw now that he's got a legit #1 WR in Brandon Marshall. Seems logical to shore up that line with the top pick to make this signing worth while.

Sounds like Royal is heading to Washington. Marshall looks like a real steal after seeing what Washington paid for Garcon...

Brandon marshals contract is a dream. Miami already absorbed any cap hit and he's essentially on a year to year deal at $9m per. Keeps him motivated and hungry and very little risk for bears!

Being out of the Vjax, Mario, and likely Nicks running, Winston should be at the top of the list. Sign him!!!
I wonder why the Texans cut him though? There's a story to be had there...I think I would be down with him though. I'm also not sure that we are out of the Mario or Nicks running.

Hmm...it also makes him prime for a restructured deal, if we need to open up a few more dollars this year.

Shefter said he wouldn't rule out the Bears making a run at Mario AND Vincent.

:goodposting:If they did that, then drafted a couple of O-linemen, I'd probably have to clean up a mess and have a cigarette.
Marshall alone is going to change the character of that offense. I can't remember the Bears having a WR of Marshall's talent caliber. Add Vincent and the Bears are obviously going to be dramatically improved on offense. Add Mario, and you have to believe the Bears will be able to pressure the QB.Not bad. Surprisingly good so far.

Bears trying sign Mincey, according to Pompei. An affordable alternative to Mario. Its sounding more and more like we're out of the Mario sweepstakes. OL next!!!

NFL Network talked this afternoon about the Bears being priced out concerning Mario. Now we wait and see what he signs and see if they made the right choice. I am going to guess that they did. Emery is seemingly addressing the holes we have lost our collective voices yelling about for years and in a cost efficient manner. I am somewhere between disbelief and fantasy land so far.

Agreed. It's like Emery has been reading fbgs. :hifive:

RT @JasonLaCanfora: Panthers LB Dan Connor and Bears TE Kellen Davis visiting the Cowboys #freeagency

Dickerson and Wright ‏ @ESPNChiBears

According to @ProFootballTalk, market heating up for TE Kellen Davis who will make several visits.

A lot more things would warm on me if we address OL soon. I'm 1/2 chubby right now. :pickle:

Adam Schefter ‏ @AdamSchefter

Former Texans OT Eric Winston has visits lined up with the Dolphins, Chiefs and Rams.

:(

Again, never dreamed we would trade for Marshall, for 2 3rd round picks, no less. Pretty freaking awesome, Emery. The Dolphins are ignorant, which is good.

Dickerson and Wright ‏ @ESPNChiBears

Hearing the market for LB David Hawthorne is starting to heat up. Four teams already have expressed interest today.

Adam Schefter ‏ @AdamSchefter

Vincent Jackson agreed to five-year deal in Tampa with Bucs.

Vincent Jackson deal in Tampa: 5 yrs, $55.55 million, including $26 million guaranteed, $36 million in 1st 3 yrs, $26 million in 1st 2 yrs.

FOOOOOOGET THAT!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the idea of Mincey. He will be much cheaper than mario, though not nearly as good. I think he will be a nice upgrade from isreal and will still leave plenty of money left to make other moves. I am kind of glad we aren't spending on guys that are being bid up very high. If Emery is going to make smart, economical moves, we will be in good shape. Adding a tackle would be great, then the draft could be BPA all the way.

5 years $55 million for Vjax. I'm surprised it wasn't higher. Now I wish the Bears had gone after him as well as Marshall

Will Tampa actually sign Lofton, Jackson AND Nicks? I know they have a lot of cap space, but that's a ton of money. Hoping they can't sign Nicks just yet.

Sign Winston!!!

Kendall Wright would look awfully good at 1.19 now.
+1 Stephen Hill would look pretty good opposite Marshall, too. I would still love to sign Mario, but sounds like he is on his way to Buffalo for a visit. It will be tough to get him to leave...too bad it's not January, then he would RUN away from Buffalo...
It doesn't have to be January for you to run from Buffalo. Have you ever been there?

That would be over 20 mil a year for 2 wide receivers. I don't think that was much of a possibility once we acquired Marshall. Straight up, I would take Marshall over Jackson any day of the week. 2 years younger and over 3 million less per year.

Got that right.

I agree. the character issues are about equal with them, plus you can't discount that cutler and marshall don't have to get used to each other. very little learning curve.

what a good day so far we got the best WR in franchise history, and a capable backup QB with starting experience.

but best of all we still have money and high picks still left. (and no Angelo to mess it up).

I love Winston, but what would you do with our first round pick from last year? Ride the pine? All indications are he would not be capable at LT.

I've never known what those indications actually were, and Carimi played LT in college. That argument has already been ran into the ground long ago. I actually don't think they are going to sign Winston. One can dream...From what Emery has done so far, I have faith he won't neglect the OL. We still have plenty of cap space left to do so, even if we sign Mincey.

Do any of you really know anything about Jeremy Mincey?

28 yrs old, been in the league 6 years, and has 15 sacks. This is not an upgrade from our guy Israel. Idonije is a guy that has earned his stripes here, doing whatever has been asked of him. He has bounced inside and outside, altered his weight, and given 110% for a few solid years now. Plus he has blocked numerous kicks with those long arms.

Give the guy some respect.

I love Israel, but he's getting a little long in the tooth and we haven't generated anything in the pass rush even with Peppers on the other side. It's obvious management sees it that way, too. We have to get some more people in here to try and get more pressure. What we have isn't working.

There are four legit left tackles sitting out there. I know you dont like Levi but hes a big upgrade over Webb. No excuse not to lock one up.

Thats fine and I agree, but putting Mincey in place of Israel is probably not going to do that. There are really no pass rushers besides Mario worth a ####.

Upgrade yes, BIG upgrade might be stretching it. I'd rather have McNeil on an incentive laden deal. If they do sign Levi, I just prey they do not overpay for him.

Not really but what other choice do we have? Two DE's over 31. Have to start somewhere and it doesn't appear it's with Mario.

Honestly, if they make any attempt at seriously upgrading the OL, I'll be happy. At least that will show they know there's a problem.
