Chicago Bears are gonna deal for a WR.... (1 Viewer)

GRIDIRON ASSASSIN

Footballguy
Come Sept 1st, either Marty Booker or Donte Stallworth will be playing for the Chicago Bears.

To hell with Ashlie Lelie and the cast of young non-durable projects on the Bears!

Gridiron - you're mentioning two names that have been rumored to be available on the trade market, but not necessarily in any rumors with the Bears. Booker's name has come up in the past, but I think that was more because he had some good years here.

Any sources that made you bring up those names or just a hunch ?

I agree with you that the Bears seem to be sniffing around for a WR, and while Lelie may be the rumor that will not go away, I'm hoping they can acquire Jerry Porter.

I've got some rumors from some Halas Hall insiders on Booker (going back to last offseason)...

Nothing on Stallworth - just that the price to acquire him would be less than Porter, and more than Lelie. But Lelie sucks - and it should be a buyer's market for him - but Skeletor is greedy. Shanahan will end up like Spaulding in Caddyshack. He'll get nothing and like it.

Heard a sound byte from Angelo today on Mac Jurko and Harry. He basically said there were no secrets in the NFL and without saying it, pretty much confirmed that they were looking for WR help. Must not be happy with what the Bears currently have.

Grid: What do you hear about Bradley? He looked to have the goods when healthy last year. Is he just too brittle to be counted on?

It's not that he's too brittle to be counted on - the Bears love him, it's more that the knee isn't 100% yet. I've heard the consensus from reporters out at camp say that he runs fine, but it's the cutting that he isn't doing that welll right now, but that's understandable given the injury he had. Bernard Berrian had earned that #2 job based on his performance in camp, but he's fighting the reputation of not being very tough - and guess what, he's out right now. I do like Berrian though - towards the end of last season, the guy was playing better than Muhammed so I think it's just a matter of staying on the field for him.

The question is, what are the Bears willing to give up for one of these guys? PIcks? How high of a pick is each worth?

I attended the Bears family night last night and it was clearly evident the Bears do not have anybody else to throw to other than Muhammed.

A host of players lined up and took chances with the first team, but none of them took advantage of the moment.

This resulted in a lot (and I mean a ton) of dump off passes to D.Clark!

Lots of rumors about a late pick and Michael Haynes being the package the Bears are offering

This all falls on angelo, over the past two years he has had a chance to adress the WR position via the draft and the best he has come up with is Bradley. Instead of going after defensive players he could have gotten a WR. now he is busy scrambling and will overpay for some scrub.

Nobody is saying Bradley is a bust, or wont pan out, but just right now he is recovering from a bad knee injury and he may not be full speed for awhile. Berrian might be proving to be a little unreliable, yet talented, and Moose is no spring chicken himself.

If Bradley doesnt get hurt last year, he is locked in as the starter with a very high upside

Talking about it again this morning on NFL Sirius Radio. I believe it was with the Chicago beat writer. He agreed that they need another WR and preferably a starter. It sounded like his money was on Lelie.
