Chiefs claim Kyle Orton (1 Viewer)

John Clayton suggested that Kyle Orton might not report to Chiefs if they claimed him off waivers.
Can he do that? Unless he pulls a Carson "I retire till you trade me" move I'm not sure he has the authority to sit out here (assuming he desires to play somewhere else). Has anyone ever been claimed by one team and then immediately traded to another? I have to imagine it's happened at some point.
The Lions claimed Kevin O'Connell off waivers after the Pats let him go in 2009, then traded him a couple of days later to the Jets. Only example I can think of.

Definitely good news for Bowe owners, but for those talking about dropping him... really?? He's still getting a ton of targets, went 7/87 on Monday and is obviously going to be a huge part of the offense regardless of who's at QB. Not sure what kind of leagues you play in but I have a very hard time believing there's anything on the WW worth dropping him for.
This is what I took out of this. I was thinking of dropping him--targets or not. Percy Harvin was on the wire and so he remains.

if orton is any kind of professional he will report.

the only good reason I can see him not reporting is if he requested to be released onto waivers and the condition of such release was that he would not report if a division rival claims him.

And fair enough. Denver could have let him sit. At least they gave him a chance.
Since that pretty much defeats the point of the waiver system, I would say there's a rule against this.
of course there's a rule against it.but you cannot enforce a gentlemans agreement. you cant even prove it exists.

either way, it is irrelevant. he has reported and it is a non issue.

I'm curious if Orton is very good. I didn't think he was in Chicago and was impressed in Denver. Different systems and a more mature QB surely aided his improvement. I figure he might be an average QB and not all that special. We'll see.

I like Breaston more than most and think Bowe has been a disappointment at times.

I love McCluster and am afraid he's similar to Dante Hall on offense and not going to be very useful, just looks unstoppable with all that wiggle and speed. If the Chiefs can create some semblance of a passing game and give him some space to work with, Dexter might be very special.

I'm curious if Orton > Cassel.

Most fun I had in recent years watching the Chiefs was when Thigpen was QB late in the season that one year. They should have kept him as their backup and paid him decently for that. Terrific effort guy it was easy to root for

Kind or ironic how Elway appears to attempt to screw Tebow again with this transaction.
Please explain.
I think the point is that KC - a team within Denver's division and a team the Broncos play at the end of the season - just got better (considerably so at the QB position) = better chance for a "Tebow loss".
Okay, if that notion isn't absurd enough, explain the part about Elway being able to use the Jedi Mind Trick to get the Chiefs to sign him.
Actually this part I can answer. I don't think Denver was hoping KC would sign him - but I do think they stupidly ignored the fact that it was a distinct possibility. In other words, I don't think Elway was trying to screw Tebow.
Right. If anyone looked at it, you had to think very strongly that KC makes the claim - it's almost obvious. So Elway - knowingly or not - has thrust KC back in contention.

So they claimed Orton but didn't bother to play him yesterday? I guess Tyler Palko is just that good.
More like, they saw what happened to Carson Palmer and realized that Palko was the better option.

I saw the stat on SNF that the Chiefs have had 1 TD in the last ~45 possessions.

The best drive I have seen or read about in that time was when Palko came in for that last drive right after Cassell got hurt, vs Denver. I think he went 5/6 for 47, and he pretty much hit McCluster 75% of the way down the field. I have no idea why the Chiefs don't use him more receiving out of the backfield.

Orton came in for one play. He threw a pass and the index finger on his throwing hand got mangled.

It's dislocated.
