The Chiefs placed S William Bartee and RB Priest Holmes on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List (PUP).

Restructuring his contract and putting him on PUP is just a way of paying him something extra to give him a going away present out of respect. He's essentially retired and everyone in the KC organization has known it for awhile now, despite what they may be saying publicly.

The Kansas City Chiefs placed S William Bartee and RB Priest Holmes on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List (PUP) on Monday, getting them down to the mandatory 75 players.

 
Restructuring his contract and putting him on PUP is just a way of paying him something extra to give him a going away present out of respect. He's essentially retired and everyone in the KC organization has known it for awhile now, despite what they may be saying publicly.
Nevertheless, I am curious about the PUP rules. Is it 6 weeks at this point?

Yes, can be activated no sooner than six, and if I recall correctly there's some wiggle room as far as a roster exemption is concerned where they don't have to put him on the active roster for a couple more weeks. I could be wrong about that part though.
