Beanie suffers rib injury

Posted by darrenurban on August 9, 2010 – 5:34 pm

Not exactly how you want the afternoon practice to go: Running back Beanie Wells suffered a rib injury after being hit by safety Hamza Abdullah, and Wells was carted off for further examination.

Wells was sitting in the front seat of the cart, so it wasn't like he was laid out. Abdullah went over to Wells, who was doubled over on the ground for a minute or two after it happened before gingerly standing up and walking off to the sideline.

"I just tried to to be in good tackling position and at the last minute, I guess instincts took over," Abdullah said. "I didn't get out of the way.

"Right now, I am just focused on Beanie and praying he is OK because that is not what I am out here to do, hurt anyone, especially one of my teammates. I want to practice the right way. Coach Whiz does a great job taking care of us."

Abdullah said he knew right away something was wrong.

"He probably just wasn't ready for the hit, and I didn't go into it … my intentions weren't to hit him and definitely not to hurt him," Abdullah said. "Prayers go to him and hopefully he is OK."

It was a normal 11-on-11 running play. Cameras were there, so I am guessing video will emerge eventually from a media outlet. I don't think this will be anything major. It could cost Beanie training camp time, yes (but even that isn't for sure). I am guessing the next update won't come until tomorrow when Whisenhunt addresses the throng at lunchtime.

even if he misses the 1st few weeks, he'll just come back with fresh legs. Although even cracked ribs are only a month long thing...the injuries are starting to pile up though

It's football and people are going to get hurt. That said a RB with sore ribs is about as useful as teets on a boar. I think most people realize in PPR league that Hightower is still a good value play. Guy was right at the top20 last year and this year he is taken in the early double digit rounds.

I am looking forward to Wells in year 2 so I hope he bounces back.

I don't think this news does ANYTHING at all for THT or Wells come the regular season.

(KFFL) Updating a previous item, Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (ribs) did not suffer any fractured ribs and is considered day-to-day, reports Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic.
