Chris Berman needs to hang it up (1 Viewer)

Team ROFLCOPTERS

He isn't even following the game. He's just dropping catch phrases while missing everything. It wouldn't be so bad if he was slipping due to age but it's simply all look at me garbage. Sad that I used to like the guy, but now he's more into his schtick than the game.

Am I the only one seeing this?

He just signed a contract to keep him at ESPN through his 40th year.

His first year was 1979. Do the math. We're stuck with this clown for at least 7 more years.

Berman and Dilfer have been awful... Berman should stick to the highlight shows where his usual catch phrases can be somewhat applicable

Ill take this form of rambling over Gruden's.Not a fan of hasselbeck though.
Gruden is intelligent and what he says is relevent to the game and the NFL. Berman is all about himself. Like he forced his way contractually to call the US Open. He won't shut the heck up.
The only commentator that isnt a complete narcissist is Jaws.Grudens commentary while being insightful (as is most every other commentators) is filled with Grudens mannerisms that make me want to stop watching football - and I hate it.

I always liked Berman, but I do think the shtick is wearing thin, and the depth of commentary behind it not making it worthwhile sitting through.

As far as a broadcaster, I'll still take him over hearing a guy like Stuart Scott say "Cooler than the other side of the pillow" for the gajillionth time, though.

Hadn't thought of it that way; maybe Boomer not so bad after all

I was wondering, on the play where Streater fumbled the ball and Berman did not even see it, if he isn't watching the tv and he isn't watching the field, what is he watching?

He just does his fake Cosell routine over and over again. But hey the man helped create ESPN, let's cut him some slack.

I dont get the Berman hate. I've been watching him for 25 years and he doesn't bother me one bit.

I don't hate him either. I just really don't like him announcing football. It's like he's looking for any and every opportunity to slip in a catch phrase. He seems more into his "Bermanisms" than he is the game.

i cant nitpick about this guy but i did question if there were other commentators who could offer me gruden like analysis during the late MNF.

No, it's that they both suck.

Jay Mohr does a great impression of Chris Berman, he does it a lot when he fills in for the Jim Rome Show. Gets me every time, but i also can't stand Chris Berman. Same stuff, different day.

If you have no ability to give interesting facts or insights, all you're stuck with is mannerisms. Berman doesn't put any of the work in to really learn any of the sports he covers.

I can almost handle the catch phrases when they are appropriate but what kills me is the guy is in his own world, calling attention to himself (attempting), constantly dropping all these outdated tie-ins while ignoring the game.

He completely ignored a play and then made some reference to #44 from the raiders from 30+ years ago or something and dilfer was like "well, i...". you could just tell Dilfer must have had something in his head like "give me something to work with here people".

what was the three minute deal about Berman just couldn't bring himself to call the field by its name? Things change in time. C'mon, Man!

Talking about the lack of proven OAK TEs, instead of allowing his colleague and former NFL QB (who threw to Shannon Sharpe) to riff on how to use a quality TE in the red zone, he starts waxing nostalgic about Dave Casper and Raymond Chester.I love the good old days of the NFL, but this was just a waste of bandwidth

Everyone single personality on espn SUCKS!! It pains me that they have monday night football. Berman is definitely the worst but there are alot that are creeping up on him there. Just in general, as soon as i hear scott van pelt's name or a syllable come out of his mouth, the tv or radio is off. This guy is an absolute clown & knows NOTHING about sports, just spews what everyone else says. How do idiots like this get a sportscasting job.

Stuart Scott is the thin lower layer of scum which has fused to the bottom of the barrel.

While I agree with you that the talent at ESPN sucks, SVP, IMO, is one of a handful of guys I find tolerable.

Berman doesn't even know the players. He just looks at the number on the Jersey, repeats it OUT LOUD, then says the player name after he looks on his cheatsheet.

Mike & Mike = braying jackals pimping Subway every 90 seconds. Only thing worse than their show? Their insufferable commercials with the schtick that is nearing a Berman-like shelf life ("Greenie, you're a metrosexual." "Golic, you're a fat slob.")

Some of you are right. ESPN's personalities are mostly terrible. I do like SVP a bit. I like Colin Cowherd but only because he and I think about things in the same way. He's arrogant though.

I used to love KO and DP.
