Chris Brown & Cedric Cobbs (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
I need to drop two players in order to pick up two players from waivers today. I have floated Brown's name in trade offers, only to be met with :lmao: each time. And I wasn't exactly looking for a superstar in return.

I'm deep at RB, and even in bye weeks I can't envision a scenario where I'd use either of these guys. Only way I'd play either of them is if my other backs got injured, or if Brown/Cobbs started playing surprisingly well.

I guess I'm more wary of releasing Cobbs, as you never can tell what Shanny will do. I also have Tatum Bell, and Cobbs is a bit of a security blanket even though he's third on the depth chart.

There are no other players on my roster I would even consider dropping.

Will I regret releasing either of these two backs?

As a Brown owner, I'm hoping for an injury to a big name and a trade away from Tennessee. The guy has talent and has put up huge numbers in this league. He could again as long as he's not getting 300 carries a year.

Sit on Brown, 2 weeks is too soon to drop a guy who has proven he can play at this level. Lendale White is no threat at this point and Brown will get touches and may come in handy at some point.

Cobbs is waiver wire garbage at this point. Cut him loose. Had a bad ankle sprain and has not even sniffed the field as a RB. Mike and Tatum are firmly entrenched at this point.

:goodposting: I concur :hey:

If you're playing dynasty, Chris Brown is an UFA next year. You can bet he'll be starting somewhere, if not Tennessee next year.

I thought Lendale looked better than Brown last week - I wouldn't be so quick to brush him off.
I don't think anyone looks good on that team other than Bennett at this point. Brown only had what, 4 carries? I can see Brown having a decent game this weekend against the Dolphins. I did not say White is not a threat I said at this point he is not a threat.

I got that, thanks. I'm saying I think you're wrong about that - Brown looked hesitant, soft and scared in the few carries he got, White looked quick to the hole, strong and authoritative. There was a noticeable difference between the two even in the small number of carries each got. Put it this way - do you think Fisher would like to have another Eddie George given his preferred offensive game plan? Noone is going to mistake Brown for Eddie George - not that Brown doesn't have talent, just that his talents are different from what Eddie George (in his prime) brought to the table and which Fisher rode as long as he could. White on the other hand does look like George on occasion.

The point is well taken and I can't disagee with that logic at all. If you have Brown in a dynasty league he is an obvious hold and will start somewhere else next year. In a redraft I would still rate him a hold for it is too early at this point to give up on a RB 3-4 unless your desperate, but there is really not much on the waiver wire and Cobbs is total crap.

Given the current NFL RBs who have a good chance to be elsewhere next year (Thomas Jones, Michael Turner, etc) and the crop of rookie RBs coming in, where exactly will Brown be able to start? What has he shown, other than the ability to get injured?

I agree, except for the part about Cobbs. I don't think he's total crap. I don't think he's Jim Brown either. He's another lottery ticket type guy you hold on to and hope that Shanahan has another Reuben Droughns moment with him if/when Mike Bell fails or Tatum gets hurt.

   Someone please explain this madness to me.

When did Chris Brown become Eric Dickerson?

How can anyone matter-of-factly contend that he will start somewhere next year???

(This isn't a dynasty league in which I'm dropping Brown, BTW)

You're right, will is somewhat of an overstatement - probably or may is more like it I'd think. You'd have to figure out if he's worth hanging on to depending on what else is available and what you'd have to pay to keep him (obviously).

While Brown may not be the model of consistency you desire, he is still better than several starters right now. Jets, Broncos, Texans, Browns all come to mind. Throw in there the 2 or 3 guys that look like their jobs are safe, but either due to injury, age or free agency move on...Sounds like you already have your mind made about about him though. Don't understand why you needed to start a thread asking who to cut if you think so little of him already...

Just looking for confirmation is all.

Name one team he should start for. Maybe the Jets or Houston, but that's it.

Cut Cobbs. He's at least 1 injury from getting any playing time.At least Brown is a starter. When healthy.
that gets 9 carries? and doesn't sniff the ball inside the 10? and plays on a horse#### team who makes every game into a preseason-type contest, shuttling people in and out? not to mention his injury history?cut them both and be done with it. seriously. better yet, find one of these people still burning a torch for chris brown and get anything you can for him. a backup kicker would be a coup.
